Re: Help..i have a terrible roommate
Just shave the cat. And if this happens:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/guYDdYJ8HYU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/guYDdYJ8HYU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Just say it was an honest mistake.
I guess I don't really know what to do in this situation other than find a way that the landlord can do something about it, maybe find something in the contract that he is violating or whatever. Basically, I am a pretty flexible guy that can put up with a lot... but there comes a time where enough is enough, and I do something about it until one of two things happens, and one of those two things is not to keep things how they are.
I guess I've lucked out my first two years in the dorms with roommates. They were about the greatest guys I could have shared a room with, and some of you that played GTA IV online with one of them when I stepped out would know what I'm talking about. It's a great thing when both roommates can compromise and let situations better themselves. So like I said, I can't be realistic with a solution because I haven't ever had to deal with it, but when it comes to pets there definitely has to be some sort of way to make something happen. You just gotta force him to go to flea control I guess, because this is affecting you harshly and for an enduring period of time.
I'll leave you with this:

Re: Help..i have a terrible roommate
It has to do with how they grew up. You can bet he didn't live in a house where he had to take off his shoes (many don't as I don't, but I'm just saying that's a definite) You ordinate customs as you have lived through them in your childhood and they stick with you.
But this is more than a question of sanitarization; the guy doesn't respect you, and it almost seems he doesn't respect his own cat. You think you are in agony? What do you think that cat feels? He is undeserving to own it or to be your roommate.
You know what you should do? Fix him up dinner sometime but sneak some of whatever it is you would do back at that restaurant you worked in. Pure, stealthy revenge. At least it will make you feel a little bit better in the process until you can figure something else out.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Help..i have a terrible roommate
Plan A: Can you use peer pressure at all? Do you guys have any common friends? If so, tell them ahead of time that you are going to invite them over and have them rag on your roomate of how nasty his house is...maybe they don't even have to be common friends. Invite some of your friends over and just tell them to complain the whole time they are over there that this place is a dump and they can't believe that you are forced to live in such a crap hole and that your roomate is disgusting...make sure they do it often enough and loud enough so that he can hear it. Girls may work better. No one wants to get made fun of by a hot chick.
Plan B: Turn up the heat on him. As gross as he is, be worse. Since he has a dirty cat, start inviting random homeless guys over for free showers and meals. Let them use his towels, sleep on his bed and eat his food. Start taking craps and leaving them in the toilet. Piss all over the floor and the toilet seat and don't clean it up. Leave all of your dishes on the couch and on the floor.
Plan C: When your roomate is gone for several hours, take some of this dirty clothes and throw them in the litter box. Let the cass piss and crap all over them. Before your roomate comes back, take them out and throw them back in his dirty clothes pile (or back on the floor where they probably are) and either he'll think or you can point out that the reason the cat pissed on his clothes is because the littler box is so dirty.
Plan D: Take the littler box out of the bathroom and put it in his bedroom. If he says anything, just tell him that it's unfair that you have to put up with it and until he starts changing his ways, he can deal with it. This also works for dirty dishes and other messes. Load everything up and set it on his pillows.Comment

Re: Help..i have a terrible roommate
The lease is your way out. Read the lease, there should be something about providing an acceptable living space. Check with your school, they usually have some free legal advise available for students. Get their help and write a letter saying that until they fix the health concerns, they must provide another place for you to live, free of cost, and equivalent or better than your current living arrangements. I would also demand that they pay to clean all of your clothes, mattress, etc.
If that is not provided, you will deduct from your rent everyday that they have not fixed the problem. If the problem is not fixed within X days, your lease may say something, they will be in breech of contract. At this point, you may need a lawyer to get your money back and any costs of finding a new place (moving exp, cleaning costs, security deposit, etc).Comment

Re: Help..i have a terrible roommate
Cats are awesome ... much better than dogs. They take care of themselves for the most part and you don't have to walk them. Plus, they actually kill birds, mice, and such, which is awesome. I love watching my cats break the neck of a poor bird and begin biting into the flesh and eating the entire bird.
Anyways, it's simple to get rid of fleas. Just get some medicine (Or even a flea collar, possibly) and it takes care of them easily. We have two cats and we've never once had a problem with fleas with them and they do go outside.
Not sure what you can do if the guy doesn't care about living in filth. I mean, it's his house, so it's hard to really say much. I would just move out and not pay the rent, though that could be considered a breach of contract since your contract was a one-year lease.
Just a bad situation...Comment
