    Re: Ted Kennedy Died

    R.I.P.

Out of all the Kennedy boys it was Ted that had the most growth of course that comes with growing old. He did a lot of things outside of politics that are hard to swallow but it's part of growing up and changing for the better. As for his politics I generally agreed with him.

Anyways the last link to the days of the Kennedy family being regarded as near royal family status is gone. In that regard his death while not surprising is sad.

I don't even know where to start with this. The 2 other Kennedy brothers were murdered so comparing growth is almost a little obscene here. And in addition to Chappaquidick (sp) there was the incident with the woman getting molested and his nephew at some vacation home years ago where he was supervising and was apparently in one of his drunken stupors. I don't think he ever grew up.

Quite the contrary. This is America..... part of our identity is that we don't want nor do we need royalty. We're here, in part, because we abhorred royalty. I, for one, never got caught up in the whole Kennedy family royalty mystique. Seems to me that perhaps that was some of their downfall.

Sorry....but I'm not going to revere someone in death just because they had a name.

RIP Ted, I never wish ill on anyone...

That being said, it's amazing the crap the Kennedy family got away with. JFK was a womanizer, Ted had his issues (along with drinking heavily), yet they're America's Royalty. I think this is truly the end of an era, because no current family could get away with what they used to.

I will say that it makes it hard for me to respect someone when they do something like the Chappaquidick (sp) incident...yeah, people make mistakes, but wow.

He was the only Kennedy brother to die of natural causes.

That puts things into perspective, but RIP Ted Kennedy.

He did become more self aware of himself and what he did in the past about 15 yrs ago or so (maybe a little sooner) as I've seen a 60 Minutes piece discussing those issues. Does that mean I swept those issues under the rug?

              HELL NO!

It was 40 years ago people can learn and grow from those experiences. I'm sure he has never quite forgiven himself for what happened that night.

Of course I know that don't try to make me look stupid. I'm talking more in the romantic vein of Camelot. Of course we all know what happened behind the scenes now but back then people didn't have that knowledge (save for the Washington DC press corps) Actually the whole romanticized notion of Camelot was born out of the tragic deaths of JFK and RFK. If both men had lived I don't think there would be any kind of "age of innocence" that most people think of when talking about that era.

Well I wasn't revering him, just giving my opinion. As a person Teddy Kennedy probably wasn't the greatest guy in the world but at the same time he did a lot in his lifetime that should at least be commended though the negatives outweigh the positives by a sizable margin.

You don't have to revere the man in death but don't go slamming the guy less then 24 hrs after he's died.

Only thing I can say, is that he should have spent all those years in jail instead of being a Senator.

Really? You're basing your appraisal on a 60 Minutes piece? And do you believe everything you read on the internet? Please. No one has ANY idea to what level he has forgiven himself (how noble). Sorry, too, but the whole romantic/Camelot atmosphere didn't come out in your first posting one bit. Can't come even close to deriving that you meant that. No one is TRYING to make you look anything. You type something here, then be sure it's not left open to too much interpretation.

Sorry, but I have no sentiment for the man. I have sorrow and sympathy for those I know who have lost someone, but this is not that. No one is slamming the guy since nothing is being indicated out of school/untrue. I didn't realize there was a time frame associated with this.

The 60 Minutes piece was one that popped into my head but there were multiple media interviews and profiles in the last decade that showed a different side of Kennedy. Sure some of it may just be PR crap but i'm sure there's a kernel of truth to them.

I'm sorry that my Camelot comment was so open to speculation on your part. I wanted to keep it short because knowing me i'd probably splice it with some political/historical talk which is a no-no here.

Anyways we can agree to disagree on our assessment of the man.
