Yeah, definitely surprised at the lack of class in this thread.

Chappaquiddick was extremely lamentable, but people are acting like the guy was a horrible person even though he served as a surrogate father for both of his brother's sons and pushed hard for things he believed in. People love to accentuate the negatives though.

Just say RIP and move on.

People have opinions. Nothing wrong with expressing them. This is what we do here.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I hope, if I ever kill anybody, and someone dares to mention it when I die, they are accused of "accentuating the negatives" about my life.

Go back and read most of the posts in this thread. Most of them have been of the "He's a horrible person; he murdered someone and got away with it" variety.

You would hope in a Ted Kennedy memorial thread that people would mention his accomplishments, such as, you know, his 47 years of public service for the people of Massachusetts, pushing hard for education and health care legislation, crafting SCHIP, which covers 6.1 million children and adults, and pushing it through Congress, acting as a surrogate father for his slain brothers' children, or his status as the icon of an entire political movement.

The thread title says nothing about a memorial. It just says he died.

Public service? You make it sound like he volunteered at soup kitchens. His "profession" made him a multi-millionaire.

Surrogate father for his slain brothers' children? Where? When? You don't think they had servants? or moms?

...and you're getting mighty politically preachy there. Besides, some of us don't worship icons who have a little trouble drinking and driving.

Regardless of how one felt toward him, he indisputably helped shape the America we live in.

He died, so let's pay some respects. Seriously guys, when MJ died and people were negative in that thread they were told to gtfo. Ted Kennedy died, and I don't really think it can be argued that he did more good than Jackson. Was he contraversial? Yes. Was he a good man? arguable. But he just died, so I don't see this as he time to be disrespectful towards him.

It's going to be wierd having an election in Massachusetts that isn't predetermined. Kennedy was the closest thing to a Senator shoe in every time he was up ... I don't think he campaigned in my lifetime!

Holy strawman of strawmans. Who's asking you to worship him?

It's not a memorial thread, but the nature of these threads is usually to pay respect for the deceased. It's not really a question of "putting him on a pedestal" as much as being human and showing a little compassion. He's been sick for a year and died under circumstances I wouldn't wish on anyone. And I didn't realize listing off factual accomplishments bordered on making a political statement.

Bottom line, alot of posts in this thread have been very tasteless and cold. If you don't respect him, fine, but just pay your respects and move on.
