I think I've got some sort of flu.

I haven't gone to the heath center on campus (they pretty much say that if you think you have the flu, you should stay away), but all the pamphlets they supply online make me think I've got something more than a cold.

I'm achey all over (especially back and neck).
I've got a pretty persistent cough.
I never get headaches, but I had one the first night I showed symptoms and I get some real quick pains some times.
I'm so tired. I slept 11 hours Saturday night, then took a 2 hour nap from 5 to 7, then went to sleep again around 11:30 and woke up around 10.
I feel pretty weak and fatigued. All I want to do is lay down.
I can feel my throat starting to get sore.
No runny nose or congestion or sneezing, which apparently is less common with the flu than the cold.

I don't have a thermometer, so I don't know my temp. And I haven't had diarrhea or vomiting either.

So, I finally took my temperature after waiting 4 days... 101.8 ... I'm not sure, but I think I've had a fever since at least Monday... maybe back to Saturday or Sunday. I've got some pretty swollen glands in my neck, a sore throat, some muscle pain, a slightly stiff neck... and something is like "draining" into my throat or something and it's making me talk funny.

I'm going to health services on campus.


Update: Turns out, I WISH I had H1N1. Instead, I have mono and strep... lol

Oh geez. Never had mono, but I had strep once when I was a kid and remember how nasty the medicine tasted. Hope you feel better soon. And, that's called post-nasal drip.

Yeah. I actually had mono as a baby, too. I know, I know: you can only get it once. Well, in rare cases, it can recur. And it's also possible that I was misdiagnosed the first time (or this time, I guess), even though my mom insists that I had it when I was in diapers.

The tests seem fairly conclusive that it's mono. They drew blood and the Monospot test came back positive and my lymphocytes were sky high (should be 0-5%, but they were 54%). The only thing that she said didn't quite match up is my white blood cell count, which was pretty normal (I think it should be high).

There's nothing they can really give me for mono. It's fairly untreatable and you just have to let it run it's system. I got a Z-pack for the strep, and I took the first two, and so far it hasn't done anything. Hopefully it kicks in soon.

I was looking for a thread like this! Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with H1N1 on Wednesday.

The first two days were real bad. My fever was extremely high and I basically could not feel my head. Then, the second night came, still with a fever, though time I was frozen. I never felt so cold in my entire life! I guess that's what they call the chills.

All the while, my neck and back were basically destroyed; the pain/ache was unbearable. My throat got destroyed as well since my cough was very chesty.

Top this all off with a loss of appetite and a touch of nausea and we have 2009's flu special, H1N1.

I'm feeling a lot better today. Aside from a scratchy throat, cough and a runny nose, all other symptoms are gone. My body, with the help of Tylenol, was able to fight off this virus. Though, I am also in my mid 20's, with no health problems from the past. I could see why they are keeping a careful watch on the elderly and the very young.

Anyways, I was one who thought I would never attract the virus. I shunned it away. Looking back, I was fairly ignorant, but I learned my lesson. And I don't get time off with my line of work!

To countryboy and everyone else stricken with the same virus, may we come out of this together and strong. I hope everyone feels better!
