Re: I have the H1N1 virus...

Our high school is struggling right now with the flu. A neighboring school closed for 5 days last week due to massive absences...and now we're getting hit. We had 300+ students out today (school size is about 1040) so we're at about 30% absent. We've been in contact with the county health services about if they're going to close us down. So far, we're safe, but man are kids sick. I was missing about 24% of my students today, and my wife was missing about 35%.

    We'll see what tomorrow brings...

My kid's school has some kids with it. So all the parents are concern. Including me, my wife teaches there too. So I am hoping she does not bring it home. But this stuff is spreading pretty fast.

Re: I have the H1N1 virus...

Got a call from my girlfriend this morning and her younger sister has it. Her mother got the call from their school nurse.

My girlfriend was hanging out with her sister last night. So chances are, she's going to get it.

What this means for me? Well, obviously, I'm at risk here since my girlfriend will likely get it. So we both agreed to stay away from each other for a little while and see what happens. What makes this worse is I'm starting my new job today working overnight. So the change of sleep may put me in a weakened condition. And since I'm broke as it is without health insurance, I'm kind of scared crapless that I'll get it and won't be able to afford the medicine to keep it managable. Needless to say, I'll be looking into any benefits package my new employer may offer...

I actually just got over a bit of a cold. Mostly stuffed up, runny nose, lots of sneezing. A bit of aching, but not as much as I've experienced before (had mono in January '07, and if you've ever had that, you know you get sick about once a month for the next year-ish from the immune system still getting back up to speed). So I think it may have been more an allergy thing, though I've never had a problem with allergies before. Oh yeah, what's annoying is I'm pretty much over those symptoms. Have been for a day or two. But of course, as soon as I get this call, I start sneezing and my nose starts running. I hope it's just a placebo effect. Ha.

I'm just hoping I don't get sick. I just don't want to feel like **** in the first place (and miss work when I'm just starting), but without health insurance, I'm kind of nervous. Don't want it to get out of control... If I stop posting, it's because I'm dead.

Hey, if you could get refunds or move the date without additional fees, then there would be no problem.

That being said, we're finally in remission. My son has been fine for three days, my wife and I for two. We're still going to get the shot, though.

Really? I would think you have built up a natuarl immunity, I'd save the vaccine for those who haven't yet.

My Highschool is getting hit hard. Teachers and Kids are getting hit, it's causing lots of disruption.

The reason I say that is because my son's doctor didn't do a blood test to make sure, it was more of the "all symptoms point to yes" type of diagnosis. After all, the CDC stopped their counts months ago.

We just want to make sure. If he DIDN'T have H1N1, then we're protected from it. If he DID, then, granted, it's redundant.

I don't blame the doctors for not testing, and as my extended family proved with their HMO (my sister was sick BEFORE we arrived), they won't even see most patients for flu-like symptoms unless they exhibit the severe effects (heart palpitations, rejections of fluids and food, etc). They had a recorded warning about exposure and the normal treatment of rest, water, you name it.

I was there this weekend for the activities and luckily, I haven't felt any symptoms at all. But my girlfriend isn't as fortunate. She couldn't get the test for swine because the hospital was completely out.

I got my shot today. It hurt more than the seasonal flu shot, but since it was recommended that I get it, I can't complain to much. Anyone else thinking about getting one?

found out I don't need one. Although I was encouraged to get the seasonal flu shot.

Re: I have the H1N1 virus...

Oh man, what a mess. I started getting all the H1N1 symptoms yesterday while at work and it just progressively got worsethis morning. The problem is that I had to leave at 11:30 am for the airport to DC again. I ended up canceling the trip and headed to my doctor. They had a hard time trying to put the swab up my nostrils since they were so enflammed, so they were able to get a decent amount. (I guess I should have snorted coke when I was younger, LOL! J/k). This flu hurts worse than any other flu I have ever had.

I tested positive for the flu and they are treating it as if it is H1N1 since they couldn't get the swab so far back. I am on Thamaflu and now the doctor gave it the rest of the my family too since my 2 kids have RSV (my daughter and the baby). I can't believe this **** and it royally sucks. Some real good news though is when I went to get weighed, the last time I was there I was 225lbs. and today I am at 187 lbs. I know I have been losing weight, but to see it at the doc was cool since our scale was off. LOL!

I am off work now till Monday since the doc said not to go in.
