Sophomore year in college, I roomed with 3 other guys in an apartment. Four girls lived next to us who we got really close with. We were all getting ready to go out and party and one of my neighbors friends came over to visit for the weekend. I was getting out the shower and heading to my room when I ran into my neighbors and her damn good looking friend who had came over to prefunk. Met her with just my towel on and she totally look me up and down and smiled. Again, total idiot me, didn't pick up on it even when she was hitting on me at the party. I finally closed the deal with her 6 months later .

There's a Starbucks inside the local Barnes and Noble that I frequent. I like to go there after work for an iced coffee a few times a week. The girl behind the counter (kind of cute, used to think she was a little blah on the personality side but she warmed up recently) recognized me and knows what I always order. She says, "Venti Iced Coffee, right?" I tell her yes and she says, "Yeah, I knew you were coming in around this time, so I just brewed a fresh pot." My thoughts instantly turned to this thread as I was reading it earlier today.

She was definitely giving you the sign. For one, the fact that she had your coffee already prepared means you were on her mind. Two, she worked there; she had nothing to gain by flirting with you for the hell of it...I mean, it's not like she flirted with you to get a discount on something since SHE was the one behind the register.

My vote is hard to tell. Depends on how sincere you think her statement of she brewed a fresh pot knowing you were coming in is. Maybe that's her standard line to all the regulars.

I almost always catch the hints, but have had many occasions when I couldn't decide whether to act on it or not.


And I opened this topic hoping for some insight from TarheelMan.

I am in the same position as you. I feel like I get most of the hints, but it is the acting on it part that kills me. I think it is the fear of rejection even when you get the hints. I have four or five instances where I missed out on dimes waiting for me to make a move.

I was at the bar the other day. When I was ordering a drink, this pretty cute chick just stands next to me with her own drink in hand. I look at her and she looks back and smiles. I got my drink, went back to my table feeling like a punk. But, sometimes you just have to man up and so I went back to where she was at pulled her.

I know who immediately came to mind when I saw this thread title...

Back in my junior year of HS, we had a party in the gym. There was this hot little Filipina chick I had been spitting game at, and we was dancing quite a bit. I was feeling nice due to having sucked down a 40 before the party started, so I was half paying attention when she told me, "I'm gonna be leaving now". I was like, "aight". About 20 minutes later my man comes up and is like "what are you doing here?!?" So I tell him "I'm chillin, what else am I supposed to be doing?" "Natalie, for one thing" She had told him of her intentions to bring me back to her spot to let me smash. I ran to the train station with the utmost quickness, but alas, I was too late. I saw her the next day and told her "Yo, I understand we got our signals crossed yesterday... What's up with tonight?" No go. That was the one night her parents were gonna be away from the crib, and they ain't get back till like 2 in the morning... Dang. Now I'm reminiscing, and I'm getting pissed at myself again. LOL

I more chalk it up to being friendly...Here's where I'm horrible at these signs, and don't want to be "that guy" always hitting on cashiers...it's a fine line I guess.

Yeah, and I'm always leery of reading too much into things from people who are supposed to be nice due to their job. Waitresses, baristas, bartenders, etc. are expected to chat up customers and be nice to them. Could have been looking for a tip also.
