Is morehouse a HBC? Is that where all the race talk is coming from?

See I think racial divide isnt the issue its the other stuff... I mean truthfully going to LSU I interacted with many different races but more core group of friends were black but they all came from all kinds of different backgrounds which made the group as a whole educational. There areas that I do believe need to be address early in educational development of poor rural counrty and inner city kids because the home life they go to after school may not introduce those learning oppurtunities... Each one Teach only holds true if there is generation in front the knows about the subject. Hell those smae kids that GotMadskillz is talking about might be first geneartion high school graduates.

The only one I don't like would be the no jeans one. College students like to wear jeans myself included unless they are coming from work, going to work after class or going to a job interview. Don't see why a college student needs to looks professional just to go to class. The others seem fine to me.

Maybe they feel individuals are more likely to sag if they are wearing jeans but there are actually plenty of individuals such as myself who never sag, jeans or not.

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?

Some do, some dont. Like for me, I grew up in an all black neighborhood on the west side of chicago. Hell I didnt even see a white child or a white person who wasnt a cop in person until I went to high school outside of my neighborhood.

So in the beginning for me it was a shock in high school to interact with white people. Over time I got use to it and by time I was in college most of my friends were from all races.

Now far as the workforce goes, I have some coworkers who come from deep of the heart of Indiana where the population is 100% white and the nearest non white is 75 miles away. When they moved up here to work, they were terrified of blacks and hispanics because all of they knew of them was what they seen on the news.

That would literally jump back in fear when a non white would approach them. But over time they got use to it. Sure they still have the habit of saying racist things and jokes, because being they grew up around all whites for the past 25 plus years, they dont know what they are saying is racist.

Re: Dress Code @ Morehouse College. What Do You Think About This?

It's a private school so obviously they can do what they want.

As far as other schools, college seems to be a time when a lot of people are able to express themselves. I'm not easily offended, so I don't have too much of an issue with people wearing whatever the hell they want. I may give them a weird look, but then I move on. The only things I can remember distracting me in class were smelly people sitting next to me and I'd move if I could and pretty girls with big boobs or low rise pants where their butt or thong was exposed and then I stayed

Wear what you want to wear as long as it's nothing illegal. Just know that the farther you get away from what is considered normal, the more stares and comments you are going to get. That was the decision you made when you chose what to wear and you have to deal with the consequences.

Typically when I figure someone is wearing something to garner attention, the last thing I want to do is give it to them.

If I see something that I don't care for or even bothers me, then I just keep on walking. I'm not a big fan of guys that dress like girls or girls that dress like dudes. It doesn't offend me or enrage me, I just don't care for it and move along. I'm also not a fan of saggy pants, skinny jeans, obsessive piercings, crazy hair styles, etc. It's not going to ruin my day or distract me long enough from what I'm doing to matter.

If I'm sitting in a classroom and someone is wearing something that disgusts me or something that I don't agree with the last thing I'm going to do is look at the person. It's the girls who wear what I like that draw me away from the task at hand.

This is because the school tries to model their students into well rounded men, the best they can be, and the top of the black community. I have no problem with the rules. They make their mark with parents and students by setting themselves apart from other schools. I think I remember reading some stuff about how people are upset with the lack of requirements like these. The schools have lost much of the pride that grads used to have.

It really has nothing to do with it being a HBCU.

I wore shorts or jeans and usually a hat unless I was going to work right after class in college.
