Unfortunately, I too have a sad story to tell.
A few weeks ago my German Shepherd Max collapsed and I ended up taking him to the ER vet. Turned out he had a tumor on his spleen that ruptured and needed surgery. They ended up taking the spleen out, cleaning the area and giving him a blood transfusion as he lost 3-4 liters of blood internally. Fortunately the surgery went well and right now he is a happy and energetic dog! Last night we went on a 3 mile walk and once we got back home he wanted to play some more.
For the bad news, the biopsy came back as cancer and he has hemangiosarcoma. This is a highly active form of cancer and he has 2-5 months to live. I can do chemo but they may only extend his life 2-4 months. I'm still looking into this with a few different vets but right now I feel demoralized. He's almost 9 now, I've had him since he was 6 weeks and me and him are basically tied at the hip. Everyday I have with him I will try to make it count and every weekend I want to plan something nice with him. I want to be positive and strong but it is hard knowing in the back of my mind that he will collapse soon again.
Good luck to Rocky tomorrow LowerWolf! Hopefully everything goes well as does his recovery.
