Interesting did it follow them to the new home ?
As spirts and what not can haunt homes , grounds or people ect .
In some cultures of the paranormal open items can be the sign of a lost soul trying to find their way to the next life but many are doomed to walk in limbo from a unfinished life did your step dad and his father have a falling out , hard feelings unresolved ?

No nothing ever since leaving there. It was just that house. I am not sure to much on their relationship

It was weird to say the least. Reading back my post, it seems weird but nothing scary. But I can honestly say experiencing it is a totally different story. It went down really fast and was really intense. I don't think I will ever forget that night.

Shoot... I would have been scared and it would have been hard for me to stay there.

Great stuff guys when I read the title I thought it was gonna be about Detroit on fire .
Well I hate to type and I have tons of scary stuff that I cant really explain anyway so instead Ill tell you a real one that happened in 2001.
I will give the short version of one I can prove without a doubt and you too will be believers of the hereafter .
I was managing a restaurant In IL when I heard we had a waiteress named Nicole who could tell your future past or present ect .
So Im a wise guy offbeat sense of humor so when she would walk by me I would start yelling get away from me leave me alone and wave my hands ect what can I say i love that stuff Halloween is my favorite holiday 12 months of the year .
So other then me doing checkouts or voiding checks we NEVER talked .
Well Im doing pm shift meeting yada yada and she comes right up to me after it ended and said
" you know you can just tell him to leave you alone and he will go "
I said excuse me " She said we need to talk in private .
She said whos the youngest in your family and I said me Im the baby of 6 brothers and 1 sister .
She asked again and said did my mom have a miscarraige when I was 6 and it hits me OMG .

She then said he loves to play with you as im thinking back thru my whole life and as a child even with 7 other kids I always wanted to play by myself but I always did things in two , two piles of baseball cards , two set of army men , two straws in anything I drank sandwiches always in two ect .
She then says hes with my Father now but he loves to still visit my Mom and sister but he loves playing with his older brother the most .
Now during this whole conversation I said practically nothing that she could have went off of.
She then says things nobody could ever know, She said he likes how my dogs Missy and Lady would go on my Moms $5000 Green Rug and she would case um off , At the time 2001 he also wanted a Flat screen tv in my room and I told her to tell not unless he kicks in $4000 at the time .
He also hates Frank Sinatra and thats why the two Greatest hits CD disappeared .
He said he was sorry when I cut my foot in the bike spokes when I was 7 as he didnt know how to protect me yet .
I could go on and on but She did see dead people she told me she saw things you and me couldnt imagine and yes there were evil ones but she could tell them to leave .
If you still doubt me she would never accepted a dime from anyone and Everyone could believe her gift not too mention she even told a manager out of the blue to have his ex wife checked for breast cancer and they caught it in the early stages .

I really wished I talked to her more about this as she was truly gifted and special and I would have liked to know how it works as she said I have it but I fight seeing it now I know I have flashes dejuva but stop it , as its very draining if you fight it hard to explain.
She did say she saw these things as a child and her Mother and Grandmother had the gift and she did give me one warning anyone who truly has the gift of seeing would NEVER accept money for this so beware .
Nothing in my life has every touched me so deeply when all those times I thought I was lucky or had good instints it was my baby brother protecting me .
Well Im typed out and I hoped he enjoys our 40" LCD .

Shoot... I would have been scared and it would have been hard for me to stay there.

Don't get me wrong dook, I was really tripped out about it. But I still had thoughts it could of been a couple of guys messing with me. I was always a skeptic and never really believed in that stuff. It was not until the stuff started happening to my mom and step dad was when I came to the realization of what it "most likely" was that night.

I left out a few other things that happened over the course of those years. Up until they moved. But I had other things happen and my mom kept having issues with the doors opening. But it always happened when she was home alone. The only time it happened with my step dad there was the major night when all windows and doors were wide open.

No one wants to say "I think we have ghosts". So we kind of just mentioned it here and there that "this was strange". But never got into detail about it.

Now as it started getting more and more pronounced in what was happening was when we all started talking about it. But at first it was kind like one of those things were you "think" you saw something or misplaced something and you just blow it off that you are tripping out.

A small example of what I mean is this. Sticks out in my mind.

Like I said my parents own their own business. So I always got home from school before my parents. I would get home, put my books up, turn on the home stereo (remember the old tall speakers back in the day lol), then go and check the mail and wait for soem more people to get home for our nightly football or basketball game.

Well I got home put my books up, turned on the stereo, and then went make a sandwich. My mom had these little nit naks on the speakers and they would rattle off. Well one of the little pieces rattled off and bounced into the middle of the living room. I then walked to the mail box got the mail. Came inside was flipping through it in the kitchen when my buddy came over and said "come on we about to get started". So I told him "one sec let me turn off the radio". I then go and turn off the stereo and pick up the piece on the way to the radio. Well it was on the speaker.

It was one of those things, did I pick it up??? I don't remember doing that..............hummmmm I am tripping out. It was just small stuff. But things that made you question if you were losing ya mind. It took a while before it got to the point it forced my parents to consider moving.

From What I recall knocks take alot of energy and closing doors also but to open that many doors takes a pretty powerful entity .
Probably a evil one or a group so thank God for The Bull Mastiffs as dogs have the gift .
If your still in the local area you can always check the town hall /local library for any crimes or early development plans of that area like a indian burial ground ect that may have haunted the land .
Question did you parents disclose the land was possible haunted as its a law in some states believe it or not also has the current owner has any problems .

So did you feel like you were being watched at times? When I lived in what I eventually came to believe was a haunted house that was the weirdest thing. I would close my curtains all the time because I felt like I had a peeping tom or something. And I had the cabinets all being open thing happen to me as well. I honestly, just like you, thought it was someone messing with me for the longest time. Of course your mind doesn't want to believe that it could be paranormal because then that's far more scary. I remember that I'd wake up and all my curtains would be open when I lived alone and i'd be like WTF...someone is messing with me.

One of the most scary things happened when I was sitting on the couch playing NCAA on my PSX and I heard some knocking. I just ignored it as it was very subtle..then all of a sudden really loud I heard my mom say "SHAUN" like really loud and really urgent. I go to the door thinking she was at the door and something was wrong but no one is there. So i started looking around and she wasn't there. The whole time I had this fear growing inside of me. So finally I called her and she was 10 miles away. I then started reading about this kind of stuff and learned that if you hear a voice that sounds exactly like someone you know chances are that it's a demon and not a ghost as demons are the only thing that imitates human voices perfectly.

I got another place and stopped staying there right after that. I didn't even come back to get my stuff, I had my sister haul it to storage. However, the odd thing is my sister stayed there for a few months while she was getting divorced and I asked her AFTER she moved out (so as not to freak her out and put preconceived ideas in her head) if she ever had weird things happen and she said she didn't have anything weird happen at all. So who knows what was really going on there but I was glad to get out of that place!!

Btw - the place was old and was right by the woods in a somewhat desolate area so that in itself helped enhance the creepy factor.

That's true, and stuff like that happens to all of us I think, so that's waht I was hoping it was when weird stuff started happening to me...but then eventually it just got too crazy.

I think the difficult thing about this stuff is, as folks here have said, sometimes you can go 3 months without anything at all happening so it makes you doubt your past experiences. Then it happens again and you're like..oh boy.

My wife's Uncle passed away about 5 years ago. After about 6 months had passed and incident occured involving the Uncle's nephew, Ben. He fell asleep reading in bed when his desk lamp fell onto his comforter. Ben told us that he heard his Uncle Ross shout out, "wake up Ben!". He woke up and the comforter had just caught fire. Luckily no damage was done. Spooky.

While I have a couple, two from me personally and one my mom has told me she experienced.

The first was when I was about 10 or 11 living at my old house there was an old woman who lived on our street alone, she had a heart attack in her home and passed away. I remember the paramedics coming to her house but I guess they were too late. About a week later me and my friend who lived on my street were walking from my house to his at night, we noticed their was a light on in that same house and we could see what looked like a profile of a person sitting by the window. We thought maybe one of the the woman's relatives had come to get her possessions or something but when we asked my friends mom about it she said nobody had come to that house since the paramedics had taken her away the other day. We went outside and looked again but this time the light was off and we couldn't see anybody. There was no explanation for what we saw, nobody was in that house.

The second one that happened was in my current house a couple of years ago, I was the only one home walking up the stairs from my basement and right when I was about at the top I heard what sounded like somebody call my name. I looked to where I thought it came from but I didn't see anybody. I then thought that either my mom or dad had gotten home and one of them called my name but I looked and neither of them were home yet. Who knows it could have been my imagination but it was pretty distinct at the time. Nothing else weird has ever happened in my current house though.

The one involving my mom was when she was about 26 or so, she said was staying at a friends apartment one night. She was awoken in the middle of the night by something and when she looked up she saw what looked like the figure of an older woman with glasses by the foot of her bed before it disappeared. She told her friend about it and she told her the previous owner of the apartment was an older woman who wore glasses who had passed away recently. She also told her that she also had experienced similar things in the apartment along with one of her other friends.

Personally I don't see how anybody could say they don't believe in ghosts with 100 % certainty. People seem to think because they haven't experienced anything paranormal that it doesn't exist. To me there are way too many individuals out there who have experienced weird things to just write them all off with logical explanations.

I remember laying in my bed around 11 pm-ish. Everyone was asleep and I saw a shadow move across my wall. It was a human like shape and I turned around to see that no one was there, I got pretty cold before it happened as well.

Another thing, not a really a ghost story but when I went to Boston when I was around 6 something happened that made me pretty jumpy for the rest of childhood. I just remember running into where my parents were and sleeping there for the week and I would not walk back into the room I was sleeping in.

Still confuses me to this day but eh, whatever.

I believe in ghosts. Throughout my whole childhood I always felt like I was being watched, actually this has continued but died down recently and I am well into my 30's.

When I was growing up I had 2 houses seperating mine and my grandparents house. On my way home from school I would walk home and try and avoid people, I just didnt like talking to people and the neighbor next door to my grandparents would always be outside around 3pm picking weeds. So I would try and avoid him, he would get mad at me and tell me I should show respect and say hello to my neighbors. When I went away to college the neighbor died in November. So I came home from school in June around 7am and I seen him in his blue sweat pants and sweatshirt picking weeds with his back to me. So I said hello and he didnt answer. So I said hello again and he got up and it was a very robotic movement and he walked past me into the gangway as I walked up my grandparents steps. When I got to the top of the steps I peered over the side and he was gone. The gangway was about 3/4 the length of the houses so it was a walk with a chainlink gate/fence at the end. I didnt hear him running, he was old so I didnt expect him to run, nor did I hear the fence or gate latch open or close. I told my sister I had seen him and she reminded me he died around Thanksgiving.

I know what I saw, so I believe!

e0820, it sounds like you saw a memory imprint perhaps rather than a ghost. There are two theories on ghosts. One is that they actively have a conscious and can think, move around and basically haunt and communicate/interact with people. Then the second is that ghosts aren't actually anything other than like tape recordings where you record a new song over and old one and may be able to hear the old song faintly. In other words what you saw was more related to a time imprint than the actual soul of another person.

Either way, it's very creepy no doubt. It's just interesting to try to understand what is going on IMO. It would explain why the guy you saw just ignored you, because it wasn't really a conscious being or soul, just a recording of a previous event that you saw. Of course there is always the option that it really was a soul and he just is trapped in his own world, unable to see or hear outside stimuli, always reliving that set of events too. So, just some different ways to think about it..

Just a note - in regards to what i posted above, one more theory, some folks believe that when you die if you didn't live a good life, you are doomed to repeat repetitive chores for all of eternity. Perhaps that is what your neighbor is destined to do, weed that portion of the yard for the rest of the ages? If so, wow that would be a terrible fate wouldn't it?
