I'm quite supprised at some of the comments in this thread. I'm amazed someone can assume they know what the man's motive was based on his name and religion.

Anyway, incredibly sad, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims' families.

Yes. I didn't even know he was a muslim just going by his name that he is from the middle east or has family ties over there. YOU assumed he was Muslim

I'd say it about anyone who has origins from a country in a war the U.S. was fighting against.

If the U.S. was in a war with Russia and this was Russian guy, would you be so quick to defend him?

So you'll probably also stop reading and not care about the fact that he partially also supports your theory that this wasn't an act of domestic terrorism.

Although the outcome is the same, I would've preferred the shooter to have been captured, tried as a traitor to this country and given the dealthy penalty....rather than have been shot on scene.

Given that this murder occurred on a federal military base and the fact that the current maximum penalty for treason against the United States is life in prison, he wouldn't be getting the death penalty, anyways, unfortunately.

Looks like an act of terrorism to me. Perhaps a sleeper cell. We can't know for sure, but at the moment, it seems like the most possible reason for the shooting.

So,because I'm not quick to jump on the "he's a terrorist bandwagon" I'm defending the guy? Is that how it works now?

I'm not defending him by any means,I'm just somebody who isn't gonna jump to conclusions. That's all. Now if it turns out that he's a terrorist,okay,whatever. I'd just like to gets some facts first.

And now on CNN...reporting that the Major actually worked as a Mental Health Professional, and served in DC at Walter-Reed Hospital.

Doesn't sound like the profile of someone who had a severe problem with mental health, himself.

I disagree. I think he's just voicing his opinion, that we shouldn't jump to conclusion just based on the info we have.

Are you really surprised? I don't think you are, this is the world we have lived in post 9/11, unfair maybe but that's just how it is. I'm just going to stop here before I say anything else, but whatever his motive was he killed 12 people, most likely people who he was a leader too.

I am a little bit surprised, yes. Most people on here seem to be level headed, and unfairly saying he did this because of his religion or his race is crazy to me. It is a distinct possibility, yes, but it is not right to jump to conclusions. He killed 12 people, he should burn in hell regardless.

I'm sorry, you do not go off on a rampage like this wounding/killing almost 45 people total, especially if you're a recent convert, especially if you're a "mental health professional", if youre simply "distraught" over being deployed.
