Don't go crazy applying for credit everywhere. That hurts your credit (makes it seem like you are desperate). Try to get something like a cell phone in your name (wireless providers are usually lenient with people who dont have established credit). Pay your bill on time for about a year or so. Then try to get a department store card first (like Best Buy). At least that was my route. I didnt get the unsecured Visa until my senior year of college.

Yeah, I've only tried applying to a couple, and months apart.
