The Cop got hit by a Snow ball, If he got punched and pulled his pistol, would you have a problem with that because they are the same thing. If your the cop you pull your pistol or upholster it, all in backup, and then arrest the guy who hit you.

You pull your Pistol to prevent getting over run by a Hostile crowd. I have taken Hours of crowd control courses for the Army and the best way to keep a crowd inline is simply showing you have authority.

Get the $%( out of here.
You can't even control your emotions in this thread!

      1. Detective Baylor(Bailor?) in no way "brandished" his weapon. He readied it in a completely proper manner.(while "waiting for backup" as you stated.....it is pretty much MANDATORY to have your weapon at the ready....pretty much due to the fact that you must be calling for backup for a reason....)
      2. He did call for backup and was waiting...until the crowd began getting hostile and provoking. The snowball getting thrown was enough for an arrest.
3.The crowd was obviously throwing snowballs at the passing vehicles in what looks to be a pretty heavy traffic multi-lane area that looks to be already pretty treacherous driving conditions. Brilliant idea to throw snowballs at those cars of course.....this way when a pedestrian finally gets struck...you guys could blame the motorist for some insane reason.

You can't just cower and wait for backup.
You sir, are correct. You can actually assault someone with a snowball. Hey, spitting on someone is an assault. Who knows the entire story of this video? I don't, but after watching a bunch of jackasses, I'll stand by the cop.

He didnt get worked up or over-react. He was assaulted, he pulled his out Pistol, and tried to maintain order. Pulling out a pistol and pointing it at someone are two totally different animals, but i would not expect you to know that.

It doesn't matter if he gets worked up. He is a cop. He has a responsibility to do his job no matter what. If a cop saw someone get shot and killed that he knew, should he sit it out and wait for backup because he is emotional??

In a Perfect world it would be wise, but we all know the world is not perfect and nothing works like its supposed to.

Well of course when pursuing an armed and dangerous suspect it would be advantageous to wait for backup, but like you said, you can't always do what should be done, but a cop will do what needs to be done.

He wasnt emotional nor irrational in that video. He actually got hit in the side of the head with a snowball and never even goes towards the crowd and instead keeps talking over his radio. Now how does that make him emotional or irrational? Youre really reaching at straws here now, he was calm, cool and collected while getting hit in the head with a snowball but apparently you watched a different video then the rest of us. So far youve accused him of waving his weapon around, somehow taken offense because someone said there were kids/teens in the group and are now questioning whether or not he was too emotional/irrational to handle the situation. Thats 0/3 so far.

                    Oh....and just for the record....
If that first uni on the scene pulled that soft spoken crap when I called for backup when I was a P.O. in Brooklyn.....I would have filled his R.C. with tampons for his mangina.

"Ummm....you guys can go down to the precinct and file a complaiWHHHHHAAAAATTTT!!"
You know what....I think I might have pulled out my blackjack and slapped him right upside the back of his dome for that.

Jesus H. am I glad I switched departments 15 years ago.

Well, perhaps (bad buy AK47 you 9mm pistol), however a cop is obligated to pursue the bad guy and these types of pursuits situations happen everyday, but we seldom here of it.
You don't want to get yourself killled, but just look at single car pursuits of armed robbers. Being on a small force I've seen a single officer chase bad guys in a car for miles before backup arrives. In that situation a bad guy(s) could pull over anytime and open up on the single unit officer. Cops are obligated to not back down.

                          Yeah...not an enviable position.
With the N.Y.P.D. force at 35,000.....we didn't have that problem much.
Heck....I just wanted to make sure I didn't get hit at an arrest there was usually such a pile.

Exactly. That's one of the reasons I have so much respect for them. What they do is something the average person could never even begin to understand. Firefighters as well. (threw that in for knight )

I look back on my career and wonder how the heck I got out of it rather physically unscathed. I never brought stuff home to my wife, but pulling over a car full of gangbangers at 3 a.m. in the morning and backup isn't there yet....Not for the weak of heart, but I was blessed to work with a bunch of great guys and we had lots of community support. I feel the same way about our military and guys like jackdog here, Countryboy, geez, who else, I know I'm forgetting someone, unintentionally. Firepersons are pretty good too.
