"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: You: Then and Now
No wonder OS is becoming more and more frustrating for me, everyone here is so much younger and getting younger...or the other way around.
Anyway, 2000 was a great year. I had coached a state championship in football, was on the way to becoming an elementary principal, had a 5 year old boy and a little girl on the way...
...in a blur it is 2009, I ended up coaching one more year, haven't coached football since, never became a principal, couldn't see myself out of the classroom, my little boy is one year from high school, and my little girl is in my class. It goes so quick.Comment

Re: You: Then and Now
2000: 19- 20 year old kid who just moved away from home for the first time. I moved to Birmingham, AL. . Had a low paying but, exciting job working for a Drilling/Blasting company and thought it was cool to get to "blow **** up" everyday. I was single and enjoyed going out every weekend in search of some strange.
2009: 29-30 year old kid who's been living even further away from home. I've got high paying but, boring job managing accounts payable/receivable for a Worldwide construction company. I'm in a steady relationship and enjoy sitting at home and playing video games/watching TV every weekend. My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

Re: You: Then and Now
2000 - A completely unconfident, awkward & quiet kid in high school (senior) who was stressed about going to college, affording it, moving away from everyone he's ever known, etc. I weighed 300+ pounds & had never had a g/f, let alone seen a real boob.
2009 - A 27 year old confident & well-spoken man who knows of life and has found complete peace with the person he has become. I'm in the best physical & athletic shape of my life. I've transformed my life from the horribleness that was only 2 years ago (unemployed, never finished college, foreclosure, lost relationship) to make myself the happiest I have ever been: back in college & dominating with a 4.0, bought a beautiful 2nd home I can actually afford and about to propose next week to my beautiful lady... the 31st, actually.

As much as the advice of "things will work out in the end" may have irked me, it's always true. Just keep your head up, your heart positive, & never dwell in the past.Comment

Re: You: Then and Now
2000: I predicted the Ravens would win the SB around week 10.
I was around 14. It was about the time I decided I wanted to work towards fitness and athletics. I was already sold on playing college football. I posted pictures of me at this age because I was so hilariously awkward. Buzz cut hair, uneven limbs from such fast growth, braces, acne.. the awkward clothing... everything. It was awesome lol.
2009: After knee surgery my senior year ending the football dream, I continue the lifting passion to this day. Go to a university initially for Journalism, switch to Nutrition then Food Science. I'm currently in the last semester of my degree in Food Science. I like where my knowledge is at, but not where my debt is at from school. Fortunately my perspective on life has been molded very well and given those values, I'll go as far as I choose to. As far as relationships go, I have the first GF I've actually really wanted, and live with her. Good person, much like me.Xbox Live Gamertag: CreatineKasey
