A single gunman struck two students, thankfully none of the injuries were life-threatening. A teacher tackled the gunman and with the aid of a bus driver, were able to hold him down until the authorities showed up.
My wife teaches at Deer Creek Middle School. She was able to fire off a quick text message to let me know she was safe and that put my mind at ease. But, I still couldn't help think about the worst-case scenarios and just how bad, and deadly, this shooting could have been.
I'm just thankful that I make sure to every night tell my wife that I love her and give her a hug and kiss goodnight, as I usually don't see her in the mornings as she leaves for school before I am awake. She'll often leave me notes or voicemails to tell me she loves me. They seem like such trivial things, but when something of this magnitude happens, it just makes you step back and really appreciate the special bond you share with someone.
I love my wife very much. She was very brave, helping her group of children that were staying after school to complete an assignment to stay calm and not panic, even though there was chaos all around them.
I know I'll be giving my wife extra attention and whatever support she needs during this difficult time. I hope that no one has to go through this kind of ordeal. We never know what tomorrow will bring, so please, don't forget to tell your loved ones that you love and care about them.
