z Revis - i'm sick of it too. I don't know why they don't give all teachers at every school a handgun w/training. It's pretty obvious these cowards are targeting schools since they know they will have no opposition.

But try to do that to a school in the suburbs or small town and you will have parents screaming about rights violated. Anyway I am just glad only 2 kids got hit. With that type of gun he had, he could have easily hit 20 or more.

Messed up times we live in.
Actually as far as violent crimes go, times are much better. They have been on the decline since about 1993 I think. They have dropped now to just about to half of what it was in 1973. The reason...I don't know...some say because we have more in prison now than we ever have and some point to roe vs wade and claim that there are less unwanted children being born and raised than there were before. So as of right now I don't see how the gun accesibility factor attribute into the overall equation of violent crime that much at all because it's going down.

It's often the husband is expected to be romantic but it's always nice and moreso feels good to have the wife leave those romantic signs of love too.

        I'm glad everything worked out.

Damn...I live in Centennial, Co(South Suburb of Metro Denver ) and Littleton is only like 4 miles away. I can't believe I haven't heard about this....sometimes a guy needs to turn off espn news an onto local channels I guess.

Yeah, but that is so hard to police. I mean, look at what happened at fort hood and this was at a millitary base. I agree the school shootings might lessen if you have teachers with guns and know how to use them but I'm not sure that's a realistic solution in every school. And those few crazy people will find a way anyway if there not scared of dying. I agree with the perception is alot different now because of the 24/7 news on tv/internet that we get today so it's constantly in your face when it does happen.

I don't think it would be a safe one either. In many of the older schools, they don't even have desks with locks on them. Teacher leaves the room + mishchievous students = bad possibilities.

Scooby - Obviously teachers would have to keep their weapon on their person. As for Fort Hood, that is the same situation as schools today, soldiers aren't allowed to walk around on base with their guns. If they had then it's probable that guy wouldn't have killed even close the number of soldiers that he did.

If you recall a few years ago there was a shooting in Texas (where more folks are armed than anywhere else in the U.S.) at a college. A guy heard the shooting, ran back to his car (he wasn't allowed to bring his gun onto campus), got his gun, came back and killed the psychopath. The guy ended up only killing 2 or 3 people. The guy was interviewed on the radio and he said if he hadn't had to run nearly a mile to his car to get his gun he probably could have kept the psycho from killing as many as he did.

Then later the same thing happens at Virginia Tech and the guy ends up killing what was it, 32 people? That shows the difference to me. We need to get teachers equipped to deal with all situations that can take place in their schools and ignoring these shootings are just burying our head in the sand. Every teacher should be given the option to conceal carry and if they choose to do so, extensive training related to schools and school shootings.

If we did this we'd see much, much less of these cowards going on these rampages.

Sounds good in theory, but there are a lot of teachers I've known that wouldn't be able to take care of the situation even if they were armed. I'm not sure that it's feasible putting teachers through all the gun training, not to mention pretty much the same training as police in order to be able to react in a good manner in those situations...

Education is hurting for money as it is...guns, gun safety training, and all the training necessary to get them mentally capable isn't cheap.

Alright O, since the guns will be holstered, what's keeping some crazed student to just take the gun from the holster(woman or man) using force? I don't know man. Guns don't have a place in schools in my opinion, but something surely has to be done. I just don't think that's the answer.

Would you feel safe if your child's teacher had a firearm? Bad kids drives the teacher nuts and the BAM she loses it. Too many crazy things can happen. I think it does more harm than good.

Forgive my scrambled thoughts, I'm just typing.

Re: Tell your loved ones you love them

How many instances do you hear about a person taking a gun off a police officer and killng people? You don't because they are trained. If it happens it's very, very rare. Would I be happy knowing my kids teacher has been trained to handle a crisis situation and has the capacity to use deadly force to protect my child? Of course I would, who wouldn't be is a more aptquestion is how I see it.

As for a teacher getting angry and shooting kids point blank, the reasoning is flawed. That same argument has been put forth by those against concealed carry and the statistics show that to be a false concern. There us always a slight chance that could happen of course but guess what, there is a much larger chance that a school shooting *will* happen.

As for not all teachers should be armed I could see that, but if it's kept secret as to who is armed and a sufficient number are you would quit seeing these large death counts on these rampages. They might not go away totally but they would go down and the body count would be much lower. And you would see these murderous cowards would switch their targets if attack to other no-gun zones such as parks..

This thread has taken an interesting turn.

In other news, went to a big meeting at the nearby elementary school today for faculty and spouses. Pretty damn emotional seeing everyone. My wife has only been a teacher there for a short time, but already there are a lot of close bonds. I'm so glad everyone is OK physically.

                          No school until Monday.

Definitely man. Going through a traumatic event like that can bring people closer together. Very glad that everyone came out okay. Good to see everyone showing support for one another. God bless you guys and sorry for the slight derail of the thread

Dj, it's great nothing happened to your wife. I hope she and other teachers use this as an opportunity to talk to the school about ways to make things safer there. Perhaps it's time to consider a metal detector and a security guard if nothing else.

A single gunman struck two students, thankfully none of the injuries were life-threatening. A teacher tackled the gunman and with the aid of a bus driver, were able to hold him down until the authorities showed up.

My wife teaches at Deer Creek Middle School. She was able to fire off a quick text message to let me know she was safe and that put my mind at ease. But, I still couldn't help think about the worst-case scenarios and just how bad, and deadly, this shooting could have been.

I'm just thankful that I make sure to every night tell my wife that I love her and give her a hug and kiss goodnight, as I usually don't see her in the mornings as she leaves for school before I am awake. I love my wife very much. She was very brave, helping her group of children that were staying after school to complete an assignment to stay calm and not panic, even though there was chaos all around them.

I know I'll be giving my wife extra attention and whatever support she needs during this difficult time. I hope that no one has to go through this kind of ordeal. We never know what tomorrow will bring, so please, don't forget to tell your loved ones that you love and care about them.
Man, I haven't had a chance to get in the forums the past couple of days, I didn't even put two and two together. I'm so glad she's OK. I'd seen on the news that a teacher had tackled a gunman, but didn't know it was there. You know my wife is a teacher, too. I never really fear for her, but things like this just say "you never know." Thank God he didn't kill anyone. People can do some terrible things. Just glad that we seem to, as a whole, do more good than bad. Bravo to the teacher who stopped him...
