And don't forget, if you ever need to get a quick idea, google works pretty well...like if you google "banana calories" you will get a quick result.

After a while though, you pretty much get all teh calories of regular foods in your head. When I'm out and about i know my calorie count at all times. I don't log it in anywhere but my head. But I know it's right because I only eat at meals, i don't snack all the time really.

      Good stuff, Kevin.

It will certainly remove a lot of sugar & empty calories from your diet. Drinking water is probably the best alternative, but if you crave soda, Coke Zero & Pepsi Max aren't bad for no-cal/sugar colas and Sprite Zero & Diet Sierra Mist taste almost identical to their sugary cousins. My favorite is diet A&W root beer. But water is probably still the best option.

And just to be Mr. Buzz Killington... beer is another big source of empty calories.

Okay it's official. I'm switching from low carb to low cal. Kevin has inspired the movement. Starting tomorrow.

        1500 or 1600 too low? I'm 225 currently.

re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

Sigh, I've really got to cut my weight down a bit. I'm 6'3", and I'm about 260. I've done calorie counting in the past with tons of help from the girlfriend, and that always seems to help, as last summer I got down to 230 or so. But whenever she heads back to college, I balloon back up. Ideally, I'd love to be around 200 or so. I suppose I've just got to buck up, eat better, and start exercising.

My problem with exercising though, is that I'm super self-consious about how big I am compared to other people in the gym with me. So I generally just walk on trails, but I'd love to get some kind of cheap, small exercise equipment for cardio. It has to be pretty small since I'm in a one-bedroom apartment. Any ideas on equipment like that? For some reason, I have some strong muscles even though I'm quite sedentary, so I just need to get the weight off for now.

And yes, I know this thread was for posting pics, but I felt like this would be a good place to get this off my chest.

The Giggas - i'm 263 and 6'0" and i'm not even that big comparative to most in a gym. I think you're probably like myself and tend to think more eyes are on you than really are. Trust me on this, unless you're a really hot woman then no one is looking at you at the gym.

I recommend a stationary bike if you don't wanna join a gym. In 2005 I went from 225 to 175 using only a stationary bike daily and a very strict low carb diet. I don't have the will power for the carb diet anymore, but the bike worked for me and it was small and cheap (around $140 I think @ Walmart is what I had)

I'm planning on taking a walk after work and getting supplies to make healthy food. I use caloriecount.about.com to track what I eat and how much I exercise. I've done it for two summers in a row and I've lost about 30 pounds each time. I'm gunning for 200, and it says I can do it healthily by December, so we'll see.

Sting, go to this site: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/calories-goal.php

It has a calculator where you enter your weight and height, then your activity level, and then your goal date and it will tell you your calories intake per day to reach your goal. I think the average estimate of what you can expect to lose is between 0.5 and 2 lbs a week, so keep that in mind when making your goal. My original goal was to be from 200 to 180 which has something like 1700-1800 calories a day. When I met that I updated my goal from 180 to 165 and got around 1600 calories a day. Now that I've hit my goal weight I can eat like 2000 a day and not gain weight.
