Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I placed second in this week's weight loss contest, I lost 2.6 pounds and another woman lost 2.8 pounds. I was a little unhappy with that weight loss considering I worked out twice as much as usual but I suppose it's not bad.

I'm finishing up the day at 1,150 calories. I had my salad this evening as planned but I also had 3 pretzels.

For the month of March I lost 14.6 pounds so I'm definitely happy with that!!

He said it was something about your body starts burning other tissue than fat cells. Kind of like, I guess, it just starts throwing everything it can into the "fire" that is going because you're demanding so much of it.

I guess i'll just try to do a little bit of both, but I tend to do want to go as hard as I can, I feel better about the workout than just giving 90%.
the difference is between aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise. Aerobic is usually the lower intensities but the muscles rely more so on oxygen to continue performing unlike anaerobic which needs more energy for your muscles to function which also produces 'waste' type features such as lactic acid.

I think the thought process is that oxygen-rich exercises are more conducive to fat burning. It's not simply a calorie comparison. I don't like calorie counting personally - I did it for a while in the past and lost weight, but some of it was muscle mass, and didn't lose a ton of fat. Boosting the metabolism is key, and certain foods can help that too.

But I do think both types of workouts are good...that's why I start and end with a pseudo-aerobic exercise. By relying more on oxygen which also makes your blood oxygen rich can reduce lactic acid and its negative effects. It's an effort to make the blood more alkaline rather than acidic which certain foods help with too (almonds, drinking water with fresh lemon in it).

it wasn't the greatest of eating days but:

Today I had an egg in english muffin and cheese slice, 3 cups of coffee w/ cream and sugar

        some carrots

        pizza pockets (2)

muscle shake w/ udo's oil in it

(intense workout session I brutalized my pecs) 5 pec excersizes! 3 biceps and 3 triceps w/ my usual 8min elliptical before and after

chicken w/ root veggies, bell pepper and gravy

        - now...I'm clearly not counting calories, but I'm not getting 'fatter' because of today. Normally I'm better and don't have pizza pockets and usually fit in a bit more veggies...but whatever.

I just don't see how eating 1000 calories will provide your body with enough protein if your'e also working out. Eating generally good food and portion control plus workouts is the key I think. If you look online about the daily calories there were getting in concentration camps - some of you guys are very close to that and I'm not kidding at all (I know because I used to do that too and coincidently when I stopped doing that is when I became the heaviest of my life). Diets are bad because you're not eating in a way that you're prepared to eat from here on out.

I'm not on any diet, just to be clear, I'm eating how I plan to eat for the longhaul. That's why I still eat pizza and drink beer once a week. Also, I'm at about 1500 calories myself. I appreciate the info on the exercise difference, that's interesting stuff!

Alright, so I was vetoed on the recumbent bike for good reason, no space in the apartment. But I know my apartment complex has a small little gym with some bikes. So I'm just going to have to suck it up and be a man and go to the complex gym.

I'm starting off today with Alton Brown's "Buff Smoothie". It's pretty good, here's the recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/a...ipe/index.html Calorie Count has nothing but good things to say about it.

Good job on the 2.5lbs loss ODogg. I gained some water weight last night and gained a pound but only had 740 calories yesterday, and I was full until close to bedtime when I got really hungry but that's normal for me.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I ate a pretzel (one small thin one) before leaving the house today so I can be rounded up to 300 calories.

Here's what I brought to work with me today for snacks/lunch: one small potato, one half of an English cucumber, one piece of lowfat cheese, one small piece of snack cheese, lowfat parmesan cheese, 4 pieces of deli sliced turkey, one slice of low-cal wheat bread, one livesmart spaghetti frozen meal, one lowfat-lowcal yogurt. Now I don't plan on eating all of this today but instead I like having my options. So i'll eat some of it and then get the rest of it for tomorrow's lunch.

The Giggas - if you start going to that gym you may get used to the upright bike and then later purchase that one you were looking for. It's just I think you should know what you're riding before buying one.
Sting - I know what you mean, I sometimes get hungry right when it's terrible timing too.

I've ridden both styles of bike in previous excursions to various gyms, and they're both pretty decent. I know the one in my complex doesn't have the upright one, only the recumbent one.

Have you considered an elliptical? They can be bought that take up very little space. Also treadmills that fold up near the wall could work too. Why does it have to be a bike?

Remember how I hurt my foot? I'd much rather not have that happen again, so for a while, I'm leaning towards non-impact on my feet, and a bike seems to be the best way.

Ahh ok...well maybe get it better then think about an elliptical or something. You know on craigslist there are tons of various types of exercise equipment for sale. Good intentions but bad exercise habits can yield a heck of a deal man. Plus the bonus is usually the item is already put together so you don't have to do all that building of the product you do with a new item.

This article says it's best just to work out as hard as you can and not try to stay within some lower zone like some say to do.
