Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I haven't ODogg. I'll go back and read it this evening. Just left the gym, did 36 minutes on stationary bike and burned 601 cals. 2 for 2 this week on my workout goals. Mon-Sat 35 minutes/400 cals on the bike is my weekly goal.

That's awesome, I'm going to do a little longer today at the gym and try to do 500 calories. I think I may do elliptical today again as I did it yesterday and felt I could do longer.

Yeah I'd recommend you really read that, I don't want to sound like a know it all but when I posted that blog I got a lot of great feedback from folks so I think it could help some people here out as well.

I'm working on a new blog for this year and stuff i've learned since that blog.

Well I just got back from the gym and burnt off 525 calories after 35 minutes on the elliptical. The iPod is a god send because it kept me going. I'm having lunch now:

Livesmart Spaghetti w/meat sauce & mushrooms
        Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt.

I'm in for 820 calories today so far.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

I'm actually pretty bummed since with 6 broken bones in my foot, I really can't do any massive exercise at this point. I had planned on climbing Mt. Washington with some friends in June and was in the middle of my training for it when I reinjured my calf muscle and then broke my foot. I can still do upper body workouts, but I feel as though I'm getting a great workout on that by walking on crutches. At work, they offered to give me a scooter to use and a temporary handicapped parking pass. I declined that as this exercise is really all I can get right now. In addition, I have not been hungry at all for the past 6 weeks or so since I aggravated my calf injury. So my caloric intake has dropped considerably in that time. While having a slew of broking bones really sucks, I have been dropping weight as my pants fit much looser and I have to use a new notch on my belt to keep my pants up.

I'm currently 5'10" and weight 187 pounds. Before the injury, I was 205. A couple of years ago, before my metabolism suddenly slowed down, I was down to 160 pounds and was in great shape. I'm hoping that once my broken bones have healed and my calf muscle is back to normal, I'll be able to get back into my workout routine. I'm just hoping that there is no long-term damage to my calf or my foot due to these injuries. I'm also, right now, hoping that these withdrawal symptoms from running out of Hydrocodone resolves SOON since I feel like crap right now.

I want you guys to tell me what you think about this lunch. I'm staying under my calories but it isn't really healthy food. Yesterday I only had 720 cals. Today I've only had 390 cals so far. Nothing for breakfast, and here's my lunch:

It's only a 390 calorie lunch but I just feel guilty for eating it because I'm so used to the carb diet and that puppy was loaded with carbs.

Yesterday I only took in 720, and I know I burned more than that, but I didn't lose any. I'm assuming I'm full of water since I'm trying to get 8 cups of water down per day.

i would avoid most frozen foods as they tend to be jampacked with sodium such as your example

also not enough protein per calorie

So should I be doing a low calorie combined with a low carb diet? It sounds like that's the best way to get results.

low calorie, high protein, high carb, low fat or

low calorie, high protein, medium carb, medium fat

you need carbs for energy and protein for muscle building but as long as you get in enough protein (1 g per pound of lean body mass) it doesnt really matter how you portion out the carbs and fats

not exactly ideal but its not going to hurt you as long as you burn more calories than you consume

                          guys,
I really need help... I don't know what happened to me.. I started about 8 months ago at 376 pounds.. Yes you read right... Over those months I worked out at least 5 out of the 7 days.. Tae Bo and Biking when I could.. "I live in Maine" I did amazing at Thanksgiving and actually lost weight that week.. I was at 326 pounds.. Christmas time came and I cheated.. Days went on, I cheated more.. I stopped working out... Here we are in March almost April and I have no drive to loose weight, None the less Workout.. My mindset did a complete 360 and I am depressed know... I read all these stories and it makes me feel better.. Then I get home at night, Well I'll just call out for pizza and start tomorrow.. Then tomorrow comes, Same thing Next thing I know it's 1 week later.. I have biked 50 miles last week but have eaten poorly... Now here I am at 340 and feel hopeless... I truly don't know what to do.. I'm at a loss... Thing is when I was working out, I felt amazing.. My mind was sharp.. What do I do

Start out small. Think about how in the past 8 months you have lost 36 pounds. Use that to motivate your brain into knowing that you worked for it and was able to lose 36 pounds. Just start with small goals. If you meet that 36 pound loss again, try to do it in 4 months. If you lose 36 pounds four more times, you'll have lost 144 pounds! So start small, then move up more aggressively once you are psychologically into it again. You can do it! You've already proven you can!

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

My advice to you TIm would be to try these things:

                              1. Tell yourself if you want pizza then you can have it, BUT you have to make it yourself. This will require time and more effort but allow yourself the guilty pleasure if you do have to have it. The goal is to change some things at a small pace like Jdurg said. If you want a cheeseburger, stop at the store, buy the ingredients and cook it. When you start cooking for yourself you will be able to eat MUCH healthier and still enjoy some of the foods which aren't as healthy for you (which maybe later on you'll eat more sparingly).

And although this may not sound like that big of a deal it can be huge. A burger from a fast food place can have 800 calories and 75 grams of fat whereas one you fix at home may have 250 calories and 20 grams of fat. HUGE difference. So try to promise yourself that you can still eat less than healthy for now so long as you cook it yourself. This is a big start toward eating healthier.

                              2. Instead of telling yourself you'll work out tomorrow, thinking in your mind you're going to start biking for 30 minutes or whatever tomorrow..just decide to do it today but in no big way. So for example when you get home you go out and take a 15 minute leisurely walk. The trick is to just get into the habit of doing something. It doesn't matter if you walk fast or not. The biggest hurdle is to not think of working out as doing this big, planned event. Just say, ok this week I will walk outside 3 times for 15 minutes. And when you've done it you will feel like you accomplished something. In other words, don't worry about the workout, worry about simply doing the habit of something physically healthy. And after you've done 3 walks @ 15 minutes each for a week or two maybe up it to 20 minutes. Or change it to 4 walks @ 15 minutes each. Just commit to a little more each week.

The bottom line for this exercise is twofold, to quit thinking about doing big things and just do something. Then make that something a habit. The end result of that will be you will lose the depression. You will quit dwelling on your failure and you will start getting a sense of accomplishment.

And lastly, and this may sound cliched, think about your life as being today. We don't know if tomorrow will exist for any of us. This is your life today, start living or get to dying. Find something to motivate you to just do these above two simple steps and you will begin to feel better about yourself and start seeing some progress.

Oh and back to point #2...I started out doing 3 times a week on the treadmill @ 15 minutes a day at 2.0mph and now I do 5 times a week @ 40 minutes per day at 3.5-4.0mph.
