You've got it. You either have the will power or you don't. You either want to quit, or you don't. I guess I was finally ready.

Wait until you get into the corporate world. When the Boss takes you and a few other people out for drinks, you better order yourself a classy beer and drink it.

Don't worry, you'll start drinking at some point. Im not saying you'll be a Alcoholic but you will start drinking at some point. Say what you want now, but its gonna happen. Everyone says they will never do "such and such", but they always do; The main bullet point here this: don't say you wont do something because you will probably end up doing it.

I agree with this. Like I said earlier I don't have the taste for alcohol but if I'm out with friends, home on leave, etc I will have a few beers.

Alcohol has grown on me. I use to hate it in High School and had to force myself to drink it at parties, now I can tolerate beer a lot more and there are a few beers I don't mind the taste of.

Meh. I don't have any intentions of drinking, I may try it once just for the heck of it, but I won't go beyond that.
As for "the corporate world" hahaha.
So, no, I won't start drinking. I guarantee it. I just don't see the appeal of alcohol.

It's hard to know the appeal of something if you've never tried it...

Lung cancer and lip cancer are good reasons not too.

Plus anyone who smokes smells like complete **** 100% of the time. A long with your house, car and all possessions.

As for drinking. I drink to relax and just let go after a long couple weeks. I went a little crazy on my bday back in mid-feb, but since then I have only had 3 beers in 1.5 months. I hate people and thinks it just makes you look bad when you drink just to get drunk and try to look cool.

I have a feeling that that is what I'm not supposed to believe, but like I said... just tempting is all. So yeah, what do you think about it all?
Entirely not true. 1 cigarette and/or 1 dip can give you lip/throat/mouth cancer. Sure, the chances are less, but it's still a possibility. Of course, you can get cancer from not doing any of that as well or smoke/dip for 60-70 years with no problems at all. It's all a crap shoot IMO.

I dipped for approximately 10-12 years. Started my JR year of HS playing baseball and stopped a number of years ago. I enjoyed doing it after meals, while golfing, while gaming etc... Very relaxing for me and I enjoyed the taste of Coppenhagen Long Cut.

With that said, I quit cold turkey. Either I had it easy for some reason or I'm mentally stronger than some (and I don't mean that as insulting to others who struggle and/or struggling quitting....we're all different and what's easy for me, might not be easy for some and vice versa). Anyhow, when my nephew was born I decided I didn't want him to see me dip so I quit. I just told myself every day for 2-3 years that I was stronger than the addiction and it couldn't beat me. I would say "it's only nicotine...the human brain and willpower of a person is more powerful than some silly addiction". The way I saw it, if I started doing it again, I was weak and inferior to the addiction. I didn't want to be that so, here I am, many years later with no cravings even when I smell others do it and absolutely no intention of ever dipping again.

I never smoked a cigarette or cigar. I do drink on occasion at family functions and with friends. Nothing wrong with having a few now and then (this is where I think alcohol and cigarettes/cigars/dip differ). Just don't let it overtake your body (as it did to my ex-brother in law who is an alcoholic....he can't go a day without getting passed out drunk....can't hold a job...wasn't there for his children/wife etc... part of the reason he's an ex - verbally abusive to my sister didn't help either).

When I was younger I drank and smoked various substances. I did it for about three years on a semi-consistent basis. Quite frankly, I got bored of it, and now I am much healthier as a result. When you're young you never think you are going to get health related diseases (at least I didn't) but I have had friends with various forms of Cancers in the their 30's as a direct result of their poor lifestyle choices. I am fortunate I quit when I did, since I have a very addictive personality.

Even though I enjoy an occasional beer and wild night, one of my biggest turn ons towards a chick would be one that didn't drink.

                          if that helps any ha!

Cigarettes, hell no. Tried a few, and while I get a good buzz off of them, just the thought of my son and wife seeing me do it is enough to make me not do it again. Plus, ya smell like balls after. Cigars, I do have occasionally, as I enjoy the various tastes and flavors out there. We've got a really nice cigar shop down the street, and i'll head down and grab a Nat Sherman once in a while. Especially when the weather warms up.

Drinking, yeah, I do it quite often. Not in excess, aside from the occasional get together with friends or when me and the wife get a night alone when my son stays with my mother for the night. I've really gotten into micro-brew's thanks to the local wine cellar down the road, which carries a TON of imported and micro-brew beers. I'll have usually one a night with dinner, and occasionally a second afterward.

My weakness used to be whiskey back in college. I spent many a night with a bottle of Jack in my hand at parties, and by the end of the night, it was typically either finished or lost. It was fun, but I really got sick of having horrible hangovers, as it started to effect my grades.

Re: Smoking, Dipping, Drinking, Burning: Why or Why Not?

18-24 years old I was like a lot of college kids. Drank a ton, dipped a decent amount, smoked weed every now and then (never had a big effect on me so I didn't see the point) and acted a fool in general. Only smoked one cigarette and my life, never had the urge to do it again.

I made lots of stupid mistakes but way, way more great times and memories (and a lot of blacked out non-memories haha). I only played basketball my first two years in college because I have some major back issues, once my career ended it was ON socially - I drank to get drunk and at my size it was a 5th of hard stuff or 15+ beers every night Thu-Sat. Then my body finally said "**** you" shortly after I got out of college, definitely a blessing.

I don't regret any of it and I'm glad I got it out of my system when I was young. I probably get completely ****faced less than five times a year these days, dip maybe 3-4 times a year (though that stuff is AMAZING, if I could pick one substance that wasn't bad for you that would be it) and never smoke weed.

One of my boys was home for Easter and we went out for happy hour on Friday, then picked up a tin on the walk back to my place and packed lips and played The Show til 3am and had a blast. Dip is so amazing, thankfully I've never been addicted to anything (drugs or otherwise) so I can use it sparingly. It was probably the first time I've packed a lip since the 4th of July. It's tough to not dip when it's warm out, they just go together.

I don't dip or smoke, but I will have a drink while out with family or friends. I never had the urge to drink alone. My mom has been smoking for over 30 years and I hated it. I knew for sure that smoking wouldn't be a problem for me. I do suffer from an addiction though...video games and new tech! I need HELP!
