That wont solve overpopulation. You have overpopulation because of non violent offenders. Death Penalty cases are way more expensive then regular cases plus you need to find 12 people who are willing to say yes which is why they dont happen that often. When you factor in appeals, that guy is going to live another 30+ years anyways. Plus you will see work arounds. Instead of "life", you will see 185 years with parole in 70 years. In some states, the death penalty isn't even close to being on the table since it's a state congressional issue.
