Re: Dudes and flip flops
I happen to agree with the OP. A grown man wearing sandals or flip-flops out in public places not only looks absolutely ridiculous, but it's inconsiderate of those around you. I had a staff meeting with one of my co-workers in casual wear. He sat right beside me with those things on and had the nerve to put his foot on his thigh and freakin pick at his toes!
Leave them sandals at home. Man law. Period.-Rocky Balboa"Maybe I can't win. But to beat me, he's going to have to kill me. And to kill me, he's gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me. And to do that, he's got to be willing to die himself. I don't know if he's ready to do that."Comment

Re: Dudes and flip flops
I think there is a big difference between wearing sandals/flip flops when you are just out walking around running errands etc and wearing them in a work setting. I have a casual day at work tomorrow but there is no way i would wear sandals even though i wear them when i'm out and about all the time.I happen to agree with the OP. Picking your toes in public is gross anyway you look at it though.Comment

Yessir. I think there's a vast difference between wearing flip flops and picking at your toes.I think there is a big difference between wearing sandals/flip flops when you are just out walking around running errands etc and wearing them in a work setting. I wonder what it is about feet that is so gross though? I would think flip flops would help prevent smelly feet by producing a ventilated and cool environment. In terms of looks, it's just a part of the body (and not even a private part). It's not as if I see a guy wearing shorts and exclaim, "Dude! Put on some pants, c'mon!" If I see a guy with a mustache I'm not all like, "Dude! Mask! C'mon!" So I do not see why flip flops evoke such a response.
I could see where the picking thing would be a problem though. Leaving pieces of your body behind in public is understandably an issue.
I must say though, as a teacher, I've rocked the flips to work before when our school's air conditioning has been lacking; never even gave it a second thought.Comment

Re: Dudes and flip flops
been to Wrigley Field about 2 dozen times and have never encounted an issue. All this while wearing Cardinals shirts/jerseys.
Nice part of town.
US Cellular Field on the other hand...
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Dudes and flip flops
Never worn sandals but nike/adidas flip flops or whatever you call it were a staple after playing ball, hell they still are in the summertime.
I'm not a fan of the dressy sandals at all. Especially the one's that have a big toe holder. They just look funny to me.Comment

What I wear in the summer
I don't believe in showing my toes. I don't think anyone is "gay" for just being observant either. I see damn near EVERYTHING around me. Just how I am. Don't see why dude is gay for "worrying" (as some like to call it) about what other men are wearing. Not like his SEARCHING for it.

I'd be just as disgusted if someone was in a meeting clipping their finger nails or picking their nose or digging in their ear and flicking whatever they pulled out somewhere into the room. Seems like the bigger issue to me is the picking of the toes.
Though I would never wear them to work to begin with...just doesn't seem work appropriate...same with shorts or t-shirts, but I also work in a corporate office of a big corporation. My answer would be totally different if I was working at Abercrombie & Fitch or what not.Comment

Re: Dudes and flip flops
I think I'm fairly observant as well and notice most people and what they look like, what they wear, etc. I just don't care enough to let it bother me especially when it's something that is not outside of the norm what so ever of what I see on a day to day basis. I see flip-flops probably as much as I see men in hats or cargo shorts or t-shirts, so to comment on it would just seem unwarranted...and to make a claim that questions sexual preference based on something so "normal" is just pretty ridiculous and asinine if you ask me.What I wear in the summer

I'm sure someone else would get slammed if they made the same comment on guys with earrings. I'd never wear one, but would also never knock others that do.Last edited by Trevytrev11; 04-22-2010, 08:55 AM.Comment

Re: Dudes and flip flops
I look at what other dude's wear to copy style....
Has nothing to do with being gay...
But I also don't get why O.S. has this fascination to call things like wearing flip flops, gay.
LOL, here in Montreal, every dude wears them. I don't because I don't like showing my feat. I'd rather just wear loafers.Comment
