Re: Why do some sports fans get so much heat?

Cold hard fact is that fans get alot of heat because there are a tons of A-holes/Bandwagoners runnin around because teams are hot... Alot of young people now let say like the "yankees" because it's pretty much the cool thing to do... Same with other teams... The fan is changing.. It' not about the love of anything anymore.. It's who's hot.. No offense to the younger generations but thats the truth.. If you don't follow, you are considered a Loser!!

I absolutely love the Bruins and Patriots.. I grew up with both of them.. I watched them win and I've watched them loose.. If both teams loose for 4 straight years, I still will be their fan... As far as hockey teams, I like a ton of teams.. Basically because I love the game and watch as much as possible..

I moved way too much in my life and since I've been married to be tied to one team. There are those I follow (Colorado teams as I lived there for 18 years, and others that I have memories from as a kid) but really, I follow my new home teams just as much as the others.

I don't want to be made an example of...I'd rather just blend in and do things that are accepted by the majority than called out for something that is apparently not allowed. I mean I've listed my reasoning for why I like the teams that I do ad naseum but nobody cares:

For one, my favorite color has always been orange, so I've been drawn to teams with orange in their logos/uniforms, the exceptions being Duke and Man City.

Duke: watched one of those SI videos that came with my grandfather's subscription and it had highlights of '92 Duke/Kentucky on it.

Florida: liked their mascot/logo as a kid and would always use them in college football games.

Browns: didn't have an NFL team, was originally going to school 3 hours from Cleveland.

Thunder: liked Shawn Kemp and the Sonics when I was little.

Flyers: my aunt converted me when I was little.

Orioles: liked their stadium, Cal Ripken, etc. Not to mention Baltimore is closer to me than Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

Man City: liked their uniforms and I hate United.

I don't understand why I have to be called out all the time despite this, so I'd rather just fall in line and not have to worry about it.

So you more worried about screwing up rather than doing something outstanding? If you're playing it safe, you're less likely to do anything worthwhile.

Re: Why do some sports fans get so much heat?

As others said it is just suspicious when all of somebody's favorite teams are highly successful and geographically dispersed. If there is actually a legitimately reason for liking each team then I see no problem with it as long you don't switch teams and stay loyal to those teams even when they are not winning.

Personally for me, I have lived in the state in the Michigan my entire life and as you can see by my sig all the teams are teams from Michigan. Those are my favorite teams simply because those are the ones I grew up watching. I will admit when I was a younger kid I did like the Bulls as well as the Pistons because Michael Jordan was my favorite player.

On a related note, I actually don't attend the University of Michigan, but I have always followed and watched Michigan athletics since I was about 7 or 8 years old. And the school I go to, Walsh College which is an all business college doesn't even have athletics so of course I am still a huge Michigan fan. Not to mention college football has always been my favorite sport.

Reminds of in high school when some people would come in each year wearing a shirt with whatever team won the national championship in football . I literally remember a couple of people who would do that every year. Those are the kind of band wagoners I can't stand.

And again, put Cebby on ignore or whoever else if it bothers you that much.

I honestly cannot believe you're going through with this. You're doing the opposite of what you're trying to accomplish. You're not blending in with anyone. In fact you're now standing out and causing yourself more attention and criticism than you were before.

You're being immature man. Maybe you are doing this for attention. I don't know. I just can't fathom the fact that you care that much what someone on the internet thinks about you. You're willing to stop being a fan of the team you love because someone called you a bandwagoner? Are you really that emotionally fragile?

I get called a bandwagoner for basketball by a few of my friends. We are all Bucks fan, my entire family is Bucks fans, but I still like and root for the Bulls when they play.
They say I just do it when they win but when I was growing up it was the Michael Jordan-era. I knew of the Bulls and Jazz as the only two teams cause I was a little younger. So, I grew up to become somewhat of a Bulls fan but my #1 choice is Bucks.

Its funny when they call me a bandwagon fan though.

I don't have a problem with people being fans of teams in different regions. I think I'd only classify someone as bandwagon if they only root for teams while they are good. If they stick around and still cheer for the team during bad years then they've upgraded to true fans.
