Ive had about enough of this "online" gaming revolution

Dont even really know where to start on this, but Im about sick of developers having to spend so much time and resources on " online" modes and balance.

I am mostly a sports and FPS gamer and its come to the point to where every game that has an online component has been nothing more than a negative experience.

Sports games in general usually revolve around either A) losers pulling the plug at the last second, or B) resorting to any and all AI / programming glitches found in the game to guarentee a win. Doesnt matter if its Madden, NCAA, 2k10 etc...always results in some BS the majority of the time.

Recently spent some time with the Modern Warfare game online and its nothing more than a cheat fest as well. Those stupid kill streaks ruin any sort of balance to the game. Joined 3 different types of games today and played over 20 different matches and in every one of them there is rampant cheating / boosting going on which kills the experience. Someone getting a legit kill streak and popping out the choppers / bombers etc isnt the issue...but when you look at the scoreboard and see a dude at 26 kills and 0 deaths using a nuke within 5 mins of the game starting, something is up. Sure enough....there is a prestiged lvl 70 on your team that somehow amazingly has 0 kills and 25 deaths and just allowing his buddy to nuke each game.

If this was just a random occurence, I wouldnt care....but each game you join now has someone in it doing the same crap.

I really wish they would go back to focusing on the single player aspect as there is no way to prevent all the cheating / glitching that goes on in these games.

Now certainly I realize I may be in the minority here, but all this focus on the online aspect of games these days is certainly leaving a bad taste in my mouth since there is no way to prevent the thousands of others in ruining the experience.

Amen. I feel the same way about it. Online play is filled with to many glitches/cheating, which is why I prefer offline gaming.
    My Teams:
    NCAA FB-Oregon Ducks
    NCAA BB-Gonzaga Bulldogs
    NBA-Portland Trail Blazers
    NFL-Carolina Panthers
    MLB-San Francisco Giants
    NHL-Los Angeles Kings
Won't change this signature until Oregon wins a national championship (started 3/10/10)

It is reading all the complaint threads about people doing this kind of stuff that leaves me with no desire to play online games. It does seem like online stuff has been becoming increasingly overemphasized in recent years at the expense of single player/offline aspects of games though.

Re: Ive had about enough of this "online" gaming revolution

I enjoy gaming online with friends. With randoms not so much.

I'd rather play a sports game against a friend than the CPU. I never play randoms in sports games.

Non sports lately I've been playing more co-op online since its been hard to get larger groups together. (When there were less games it was easier.) We used to have 12-16 guys showing up regularly for Ghost Recon and Vegas. Good times.

I'm really looking forward to playing RDR online. About 20 guys on my friends list are picking that up.

And how much of the disk space is devoted to that stupid online crap?
I'm sure there are much better things (like some of the features from last gen versions of the game that STILL have yet to make it on to current gen versions) to put on that space.

Not only do I completely agree, but I also don't appreciate the priority it has taken over offline multiplayer. When Pure came out, they kept touting the multiplayer action, and I was thinking, "Sweet, split-screen racing with my little sister. Awesome!" Little did I know that "multiplayer" actually meant online play. I don't know how on earth offline multiplayer now needs to be spelled out as the standard to clear confusion, but it's just unfortunate how little split-screen action we get anymore.

I was an avid fan of playing baseball online for the first time with Backyard Baseball 2001, and then played THPS 3 online when I first got the PS2 network adapter and got SOCOM shortly thereafter and fell in love with it. But I can only really restrict my online play to shooters, and even then I mostly enjoy the single player (except for SOCOM and COD). GTA was fun online, but even the defaults annoy the hell out of me. Auto-aim is just frustratingly unskillful and detracts from the experience.

Now that my rant is over, I just wanted to go back and say that I agree there are way too many resources focused on the online aspect when there are some other glaring issues that should be looked into beforehand.

I agree there. From MLB 2K9 not allowing the user to remove the ball cursor while pitching to the countless other games that have inexplicably stripped down their offline multiplayers. . .it's frustrating for sure. I just want to race against my friend!

Well said OP. MW2 is a complete joke and I don't care what anyone says. The only games I play online are shooters. MW2 lasted about 2 weeks for me. I just couldn't deal with all the BS going on. There has to be a way to curb the glitching and all that crap.

I was enjoying Battlefield 2, but now I am starting to see all kinds of BS going on with that game as well.

The worst word ever to make its' way into online gaming is....

                      RANKED!

Anytime someone throws their rank up to me I usually respond one of two ways:

                      1. I'm sure the chicks really dig that.

                      2. I bet that number looks really good on your resume.

I call BS..yes MW2 has it's problems and one of them is boosting but your telling me 20 out of 20 matches you played there was cheating or boosting? I've put in over 10 days into MW2 and the total number of times I've seen boosting is probably around 20-30 times.

If the rate was really this high then no one would play MW2 anymore.

As for sports games I agree. I rarely play online ever in a sports game. Look at MLB 10 the Show offline is good but online just sucks. Matches not counting, people quitting, etc. I am strictly an offline franchise guy and I feel like offline franchise mode's have been lackluster in the majority of sports games out.

FPS I love multiplayer. It gives the game incredible replay value. In a sports game you can keep playing your franchise year after year. Once you finish a campaign in a FPS that is pretty much it. So online gives the game so much more replay. Yes sometimes multiplayer can be a pain in the ***, but any game you play with random people will be like that. Killzone, COD, Battlefield, MAG, etc.

I would like more dedication to offline franchise in sports games and more dedication to preventing bugs/glitches in online matches for FPS.

Exactly what I was thinking. I hate when people exaggerate to prove a point. 20 out of 20 games? No. I don't believe you. I've played almost 3 days worth of MW2 and haven't even encountered a booster/cheater 10 times, maybe not even 5.

Now I will agree with you(the OP) on sports games. I've tried getting into online play with sports games and I can't do it. Too many immature people pulling the plug, using some stupid glitch, etc. Not fun at all.

For FPS', disagree. That's all I ever play with FPS games. Once I beat campaign, I never touch it again; strictly online play from there. And as I said, I don't encounter cheaters that much. Maybe I'm the luckiest guy in the world. I don't know.

Nuke boosting in 20 of 20 games....no. Some sort of shenanigans going on in each game..yes. With the ease of getting the autoaim bots, rapid fires, temporary invun, unlimited claymores without the scavenger perk...cheating is everywhere. Simple google search with find all of those. On top of all of that are the map glitches where you can target and aim and yet not be able to be killed short of a nuke. Wasteland, Faevla, Rundown are just a few of the levels where that is possible.
