The news article I read about this yesterday said the grandmother was restraining officers from entering the residence. You can blame the officers all you want but if they really had nothing to hide why try to prevent SWAT officers from entering your home? Nothing good will ever come out of that.

Well...if a flash bang was deployed then I'd expect her to be disoriented. Maybe she didn't know they were officers, and thought she was being attacked? Maybe the article was...say...embellishing the truth?

I just don't understand the logic of them throwing a flash bang grenade blindly into the part of the house when the person they were looking for didn't even live in that part. The article implies that there were aware of this fact when they got the warrant.

I find it hard to believe after a flash bang grenade was throw that the grandmother and everybody else around it wasn't disoriented. I really don't buy that she would have able to offer any significant resistance as she was most likely disoriented. The contact most likely if there was any was probably her bumping into them or them tripping over her when she was disoriented.

I fully expect even if there is clear evidence that the police acted inappropriately that it would be covered up or made to disappear.

Well depending on the timing and location, the flash part of the grenade might have went off before anybody was in a position/awake enough to suffer from it. That would limit the degree of disorientation.

While I have no idea why you'd use one in the part of the duplex that you didn't suspect had your target unless you just had faulty intell from the start, I can follow that you would try and secure both parts of the duplex during the arrest.

And if recent history is any indicator the cops are going to get off with a slap on the wrist at best. They should not have even been in there. If cops got a warrant to enter my home based on an issue I am not even accused of being involved with I would be pissed.... unreasonable search? Is a stupid show about these "heroes" worth all this?

It just kinda blows my mind that if I lived in a duplex and unbeknownst to me some dickhead above me has a search warrant out that the cops can apparently legally get a warrant and enter my residence as well since it's "connected". Glad I'm in a single-family home...

I don't see how anyone could defend the police in this situation. Warrant or not, there was NO excuse to fire the weapon. Were any shots fired other than from the officer? The police said it was an accident...well apologies don't bring the little girl back.

What's most annoying is that this is getting NO coverage nationwide. I would not had known about this until a friend emailed me the article. On our local news, they talked about this in the nationwide news brief for about a minute total.

Yep. I'm not a cop but I'm in the military and that is one of the most important things they teach us when dealing with weapons.

Just a sad situation. I can't imagine the pain the family is going through right now.

And to Dookie what do you mean bring this stuff around their children? The people in the house she was killed had zero to do with the warrant, only that the suspect happened to live upstairs from them in a different unit.

Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.

Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.

Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.

Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire.
