The sad part about this is that stuff like this happens more often than most of you realize. We need to stop storming people's homes with armed soldiers. It starts with the judges allowing the warrants, but it also begins with gung-ho police squads that deem this sort of procedure necessary.

let's just hope there is some justice.. too often are these cops "cleared" and back to working the streets with their messed up brains (on the mental side of things).. It;s really unfortunate all around.. If a cop gets in a shootout and a death occurs, I think its time for a new job for that guy. I know training happens and counseling but if I were to have accidentially hurt someone, I would have doubts in another similar situation. Judgement calls become blurred. It;s a no win situation for anyone involved.

If I was too quick to act before, maybe im too slow to act later on.. Liability all around. But theres not enough qualified entrants into the PDs so the recycling continues.

Sad stuff.

Tell me how often does it happen? Do you have proof of this? This one went horrible but it was one guy who didn't follow basic weapon safety rules that caused all this, I would say it's safe to say most warrants dont end up with someone innocent killed.

Guess it sucks to be a cop all around, damned if you do damned if you don't.

Exactly. Im a man of color and have been racially profiled countless times. But growing up down the road from Detroit and spending quite a bit of time there I can tell you Detroit cops are in a warzone literally. If youve never spent time or lived there you have no ideal how hard those cops have it. Of course I feel bad for the little girl, but there have been numerous little girls killed in the crossfire in Detroit.

I don't remember there being this much outrage about the 4 cops that were gunned down in cold blood while doing paperwork in a restaurant.

How many 7 yr olds have wronged a person in their lifetime?

If people don't show 'outrage' over police I can emphathize...maybe they were victimized by an officer, treated unfairly, who knows.

7 year olds on the other hand do not hurt anyone, nor have had an opportunity to. Not saying those officers deserved their fate, nor that I wouldn't feel sympathy for them...but I can see why others would not.

And if recent history is any indicator the cops are going to get off with a slap on the wrist at best. They should not have even been in there. If cops got a warrant to enter my home based on an issue I am not even accused of being involved with I would be pissed.... unreasonable search? Is a stupid show about these "heroes" worth all this?

They'll be suspended with pay pending an investigation, then found not guilty.

I saw the story on CNN this morning.

You must not have been paying attention cause that was all over the news and every police officer in that city made sure to find the guy who did it.

Bottom line is that the cop f'd up BIG TIME.

However everybody here needs to realize it WAS an accident. I'm not saying the officer sould be let off the hook...but if you all think he went in there and hunted down a 7-year old girl you need to calm down for a second and think about what really happened.

This isn't 1st degree murder...it was a poor action that will haunt this guy for the rest of his life. If you don't think for one second he could take back the instant you're crazy. Also nothing will bring back the little girl.

We don't know all the specifics yet to fully say what this guy needs to face legally.

I don't want a guy who apparently shoots without thinking to be patrolling the streets with a gun. That little girl had no idea that some guy would shoot her in the neck while she was in her own home.

Except for what not even a hanful of colorful post, this thread is hardy foolish...Most post were about the tactic or the lil girl..

Just like guys here are quick o say "I hate cops" many people also are quick to defend anything a cop does...Its ridiculous and it happens in every thread and any topic...

If I would have posted a story and a police officer telling a lie about a man shooting him, just so he can get transfered to a different district, I wonder how many will justify that...Or try to reverse tgings to make a meaningless point???

I never defended this guy for the record nor will I. Whatever procedure they had in place is sure to be changed. Whoever authorized this should be disciplined as well.

Jukeman - the tactic was bad, resulted in a tragic death, and should result in the firing and criminal prosecution of the person who killed the girl with several heads rolling.
