Why it is something that they are proving to be true. Maybe you should read more. Instead of magazines, like Playboy, 360 or PS3. After thinking about this more. I think you should take your own advice. If you disagree tell me why, instead of making a post like the one you did and then getting your little fan to feed off it.

I am familiar with the research about what causes alcoholism. I just find your posts to be confusing at times. I don't disagree with anything you said (I think :wink.

I do read quite a bit, actually, but no need to get into an argument over that. Finally, I cannot control what other people post. Hope there's no hard feelings.

No most of the time I drink is on a Fri or Sat when Im out or with the fam on a hoilday, bday or something like that. But I also dont drink beer either just hard liquor for me

I don't know about that Fin, that is not what I learned in a program at college, but if you say so. They told us that it is when they can't stop, meaning that had to drink, not how many. I was under the assumption it was they could not stop. Even if it was just one a night. Meaning they could not miss one day.

When I went through out-patient treatment a decade ago the popular terminology to describe those incapable/unwilling to drink without getting completely ****-faced was "alcohol abuser," in order to differentiate them from the hardcore alcoholics.

The drunk or alcoholic argument is technically defined as alcohol abuse or alcohol dependence. Dependence requires at least 3 criteria which I can't remember all of now. Some of them are numerous attempts to quit, cannot stop once they've started, physical withdrawls, etc. The main difference being the abuser will usually get trashed when drinking but does not have to drink, they can go out and have a drink or two and not have to have 12. The information is in the DSM IV TR for anyone that wants to look it all up. This thread has made me thirsty. Off to the liquor store.

It is not about a point it is about that is you have to drink every night and can not stop then you are consider an alcoholic and that is why they think it is a gene. If you drink every night and drink way more than you need too you are a drunk. A drunk can stop when they want too, but they do not want too mostly for the reason you mention. That is what makes them a drunk. A person that can't stop is called a alcoholic. It is not wrong being an alcoholic. You can't control it. Now this is what I learn about 5 years ago. It could have change.

snepp - thank you, i'll go with that instead of drunk..."alcohol abuser". I'm going to go home tonight and abuse the heck out of some poor, defenseless bottles of brew. But in my defense, they've been asking for it all week. If anyone asks, I'll say they "had it coming"!!! :P

I don't know why they like it so much. My brother brings home all kinds of great imports (Stellas, Carlsberg, etc.), but they insist on drinking Natty light lol. I mean...they are sophisticated . Mon-Thurs. are drink a natty light after work, Friday is my mom and dad's Margarita Night (@ the Mexican restaurant down the street) .

Whats funny is America's perception to Alcohol and Europe's.

Moderation might be defined as 1-2 drinks here and according to Euro Doctors say moderation is 4-6.

Honestly I think it has more to do with legal and liability reasons in the US then actual medical research.

Stress will kill a person quicker then drugs, alcohol, act of god. Not saying that drugs and alcohol cant lead to more stress though when abused.

You do realize that it is proven that a drink a day is good for you. It helps with blood circulation and heart.

There is literally hundreds of articles you could read on this. But it is consistent that having a drink or 2 a day is good for you.

I heard wine is good for you, but I have not heard about hard liquor or beer. And Dilimb, you look different then I thought you would. First, I didn't realize you had blond hair and that it is as long as a girl's hair. Also I didn't know you were a cartoon. A lot is starting to make sense now about who you are. Thanks!

Yeah this one was mistake. I am basically saying the gene controls you. That is what determines if you are an alcoholic.

I like to drink every now and then, but I don't get drunk I just try to a good buzz feeling. Screw Drivers do that for me. I usually drank on the weekends, but not every weekend.

I'm the same way. I usually drink on the weekends and sometimes I'll have a beer while watching games at home. I personally prefer liquor over beer. Beer on the weekdays sometimes and hennesy on the weekends. Sometimes i'll have it with a nice cigar. Nothing beats Hennesy with some cranberry juice and a nice cigar.. Beer gives that nasty fat gut so I try not to drink too much beer. Also I never drink to get drunk just a nice buzz. Being drunk isn't cool.
