I used to drink regularly, have a beer or two after work and relax. I've been diagnosed with diabetes so I've stopped drinking because it doesn't mix well with my meds. I'll have a couple here and there on Holidays or going out, but my days of getting trashed are probably 1 or 2 times a year.
Do you have a drink each day after work?

Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

I've started working out at nights so i haven't really felt the urge to drink after that but i definitely enjoy a glass of good wine with dinner occasionally. I still enjoy beer but i find i'm starting to enjoy wine more for the taste and i drink beer in social situations.

I guy i used to share a house with while i was at college used to drink 8 beers every week night then 20-30 each day on the weekend. Mostly mid strength beer but still a ridiculous amount. I'm not doubting for a second that this guy was an alcoholic but he didn't want to hear it.Comment

Release my tiredness and pressure with beer!I'd guess that I drink about 10 beers per week... If that. I kind of go in spurts but my days of getting drunk are long gone. With where I work, sometimes a few beers after work is just what the doctor ordered.

Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

If I have a bad day at work which rarely happens anymore then I will have one or two beers to unwind. When I go out for a wedding or to a bar, I'll probably have 12 beers or so. Did I mention I'm from one of the worst counties in regards to alcoholism in the U.S.? I guess now is a good time to mention that..Comment

I actually wrote a blog in defense of binge drinking a while back. I'll have to see if I can dig that up and post it here..Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

I'd be interested to read it...I was a champion binge drinker in college lol (if I drank I was getting trashed) and don't think it's behavior that is conducive to living a long life. If I lived that lifestyle now I'd be hurting so bad hahaNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

Yes, I have a drink everyday after work. I typically have a couple rum and cokes each afternoon/evening. On my days off though I go through about a pint. mmmmmmm....Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

Here is the blog post on binge drinking:

Tonight i'm going to write in defense of a couple of things that sometimes need to be explained to those who don't understand them. Or perhaps just to present a different viewpoint than you may have thought about. Tonight i'm defending binge drinking and extremism. FIrst off, why I and others like to drink a lot sometimes in one sitting, also known as binge drinking. Binge drinking has gotten quite the bad reputation mostly because of out of control college frat houses or teenagers who end up going too far with their drinking. But just as in any other aspect of life moderation and knowing one's limits are the key to safely enjoying a hobby that society views as unhealthy yet continues to glamorize, which is a paradox that shows that it's something a lot of us enjoy doing but say we don't, much like a few other things that immediately come to mind that I won't get into here as this is a family website, LOL.

Anyways, here are my thoughts on drinking in general. I realize some people cannot drink as they are alcoholics. I also realize that a lot of people blame their own shortcomings on alcohol (see the local political or Hollywood discussion page on any given day), whether fair or not to alcohol, and usually it's not. Alcohol is not an evil potion that somehow turns you into a Jekyl and Hyde. Alcohol reveals your true nature and lets you explore some areas of your personality that admittedly some people should choose not to explore. That is why I like to occasionally have some beer on the weekend, or perhaps some whiskey. I know my limit and stop when I've had enough but I don't bind myself to a certain number of drinks either. When I've had a lot of drinks I see things in a different, alternate way. Someone that has an active mind like mine can also not only see things differently but also have their mind slow down and relax which is quite pleasant.

So I'm in favor of drinking, yes even binge drinking, so long as one abides by the following code of conduct: if you drink don't drive, if you drink and find you hurt yourself or others when you do then sorry but you need to quit, if you drink don't say or do something you will regret later and to do so may require you keeping yourself out of certain situations (ie don't binge drink at the company picnic, be smart about it while you're sober), if your health is affected in a negative way then you should cease to drink, know your limit and stop drinking when you've reached it, no need to pull a rock star death no matter how glamorous and finally if you find that your drinking in any negative way impacts your friends, family or job then you need to adjust what you're doing or quit. Follow these rules and getting your drink on can be a fun occasional hobby.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

Overall I think that just advocates responsible drinking, which I agree with. Just that most people who binge drink end up being kinda dumb, etc. It's not that easy always to be smart when you're completely trashed. Here is the blog post on binge drinking:

That being said, binge drinking of any sort is bad for your health, just more in that long term type of way (bad on your liver, etc). Kinda like smoking, you don't see the bad things until it's usually too late.

Though I'm talking more about where you drink a ton...5-10 drinks, spaced well, isn't that bad (still not the best health wise, but what's life if you can't live?). There were times in college I'd throw down 3 double shots of whiskey in like 30 minutes...that's 6 shots lol. Not the best plan. I know people now who binge drink 3-5 nights a week...even if they're being smart IMO it's probably not a good idea...Last edited by mgoblue; 06-08-2010, 01:07 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

Well as for me I drink a lot when I get my drink on but it's usually over a decent period of time. Like I drank about 15 shots of vodka mixed with cranberry juice last Friday over the course of 8 hours after work.

I guess I see your point about the responsible drinking aspect. I have drank since I was 13 and I wouldn't be able to binge drink in my younger years without ending up seriously messed up and/or doing stupid stuff. Perhaps I should have added an addendum to that part that you should only binge drink when you're an experienced drinker.

As for the health concerns, I regularly get check ups (as should anyone) and my doctor says the danger from what I do comes more from passing out and pulling a Jimi Hendrix more than serious liver damage. Although, obviously, he suggests I drink less. But whenever he does I just jump up and scream "NO WAY OLD MAN, I'M A PARTY ANIMAL, YOU CAN'T CHANGE ME!" and high step out of his office like Deion Sanders returning 6 the other way..Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Do you have a drink each day after work?

I binge drink, but I am sure to never get THERE until I am home. No reason to be wasted in public, seen too many people embarrass themselves or do something stupid. If I go to a bar or party, I will get to a manageable level, maintain it until I leave, and if I feel like it have a few shots when I get back to seal the deal. That way, worst case scenario, I pass out on my couch.Comment
