The human element in him could have ignored it, or simply let the girls off with a warning prior to a citation being issued. You don't know what was said or done that made this situation escalate. All you see is a scuffle when the tape begins.

For all those asking what would you have done if you were the cop, what would YOU have done if a cop is wrestling with a relative of yours and you feel they are going overboard? I'm not saying the cop went overboard (other than the punch) in this case, but lets say your sister or mom got punched by a police officer, would you stand there and "let him do his job?"

For the record, I am NOT defending the girls...they did a very stupid thing. However, they are GIRLS. The situation could have easily been diffused. One of u said they should be euthanized...are u serious?

    I'm done...you guys are comedy
Jaywalking is a petty crime, I don't disagree. It is one that I think any officer should just give a warning for (except maybe in the most extreme of circumstances), but it is a crime nonetheless. And when you are specifically asked to come enforce that law then you have to. Whether he gives out a citation for it or not is up to him, but he really had no choice in the matter of at least confronting them about it.

I don't really know how he is expected to just giver her a citation or a warning when she ignored him and walked away. To not go after her would potentially cause a case of rebellion in anyone else who couldn't be bothered to listen to him doing his job. It isn't hard to guess the maturity and thinking processes of these girls when one is trying to fight with a police officer after she blatantly ignores him. So it's hard for me to believe the situation could have been easily diffused. It seems more likely that the girl in black was antagonistic possibly belligerent towards the officer which is why he had to restrain her.

As for your question of what would I do. I really don't know. I know I would be angry, but I couldn't tell you if I would have lost control in that situation or not. Losing control and attacking an officer when all he is doing is restraining someone though isn't a valid excuse.

      Re: Discuss.

The cop didn't chase her down because she was jaywalking. She was jaywalking, cop told her to stop and use the crosswalk. She didn't kept walking and the cop toward her to come here and show id. She didn't and at that point the cop goes to get her. If you run from the cops, you usually have a reason.

All she had to do was go back to the crosswalk or just shut up and listen to the cop when he told her to stop. She coud have just acted like she was listening and went jaywalking somewhere the cop wasn't.

By her actions, if she got hit by a car, she probably would sue the city for not enforcing jaywalking.

If he tried to calm her down, and tried to reason with her, but she still acted belligerent, I'll side with the cop. If he was calm and merely tried to talk to her and let her know what she did, and she still ignored him and kept walking. If he told her she was getting a citation, and if she still waked away. If he told her that if she didn't stop that she'd be placed under arrest, and she still kept walking away and ignoring him...and then he got physical, I'd side with him.

However, if he had his hands on her from the start, and never once let go to try and calm her down, he deserves just as much blame as the girl.

Wait a minute, how do yall know what happened? Is there another video that shows the incident in it's entirety from the beginning?

Someone posted what happened before the video started. Now they could be lying, but I don't see why.

There were reports of what happened leading up to the incident posted earlier in this thread. I read some articles that said the same thing.

As far as actual video evidence this is as far as it goes. At the beginning of the video for about 2 seconds you can see the cop appears to have his hand on the girls shoulder as she is shouting "get the **** off my neck"

Why are we even arguing this, it is incredibly obvious that the people who are taking the side of the girls hate cops. Reguardless of what preceeded these events, what we saw was more than ample evidence that supports the cop.

It is the same freaking people that come in here when a video like this pops up to rag on police. Then they use some past event in their life that justifies them hating cops. It is the same Crap over and over again, why we allow these threads is beyond me. We close the Oil Spill thread yet this remains open
