They will probably ask the most asked question in interviews.

    "Tell me about yourself."

They don't want to hear your life story. The best way to answer that question is summarize your career in 3-4 sentences.

Also, go in the interview and tell them about your accomplishments and achievements. Companies love to hear how will save them time and money.

I went topsy-turvey in my interview the other day just like LD suggests here but I still didn't get the job. I'm thinking the whole "picking-up-magazine-CD-orders-at-the-neighbor's-house" left too many unanswered questions.

Show passion and dedication for the job. It's funny, but the word "passion" seems to be very big in the corporate world right now. Everyone wants people who have passion...who love their jobs...who are willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done in scope and within budget.

When talking to them, be yourself, but don't be too silly/funny as they might not take you serious. As someone else stated, talk with them, not to them. Make conversation and make sure to ask questions.

Just remember the first impression is the most important, Give them a firm handshake and look them in the eye when you introduce yourself, this goes along way.

Re: Big Interview tomorrow - any advice appreciated.

The one thing i've learned is to talk LESS and when you do talk ASK THEM QUESTIONS. You need to come across as if you're interviewing them and as if you may or may not be interested in them. Not only that but most interviewers say that the main thing people screw up on is they talk way too much and they reveal things that are less than flattering. Then the second thing they complain about is the candidate not asking any pertinent questions. And not just about salary either, ask about things others may not ask about, such as "Can you tell me a bit about the history of the company?", this shows interest and most managers love to talk about their company.

If you do those two things the interviewer will be left with the impression that you're different from most people he or she has interviewed. They will see you as someone who they want because you were different (they will recognize this consciously) and you changed the dynamics of power in the interview (they will subconsciously think they want you because you presented yourself as valuable and discriminating).

So to summarize, keep your answers short, ask them open ended questions, show some humor at some point in the interview and last but not least, look the interviewer directly in the eye at the end, shake hands with them and thank them for their time.

I don't totally agree about asking them questions. They usually have a list of questions and they want you to answer them, not the other way around. Maybe at the end of the interview they will ask you if you have any questions, that would be the time to ask some questions. I do agree make you answers short and sweet.

Re: Big Interview tomorrow - any advice appreciated.

The issue is at the end when they ask you if you have any questions, the tendency for a lot of people is to ask maybe about salary or vacation time or something and then end the interview. Now we all want to know about those things but that just makes it seem as if you're not really interested in the company or where its headed but only interested in yourself and your own concerns.

So from what i've read you need to quit thinking about the interview as "The company interviewing ME" and think of it as equal "The company interviews me first" and then "I interview the company". And by interview that entails asking them at least 4 or 5 open ended questions. If you really want to discuss salary and/or vacation or other perks you should wedge those questions in between the opening question and ending questions. You don't want the first thing to be about money, but you also don't want the last thing they remember talking to you about as being money or perks either.

I don't know if every interviewer is the same, but in all my interviews. They always seemed to have this list of questions and they want you to answer them all too, so if you go on too much on one question, you will not have time to answer the others. Plus most likely they have other interviewee that day too. So time is very important too.

Scott - if you keep your answers for their questions sufficiently short then at the end you should have time to ask them questions. And you should be able to tell how they are pressed for time or not by how they answer your open ended questions. If they seem to be rushing it then don't ask more questions but if they are going on and on about their company then chances are they are not concerned about time.

In my opinion and this is only opinion you only ask questions if they ask you if you have any questions for them. Which most likely they will ask you. Most companies do. I would watch out for the open ended questions though.
