I check my facebook maybe 6-8 times a day. It's easy because you can check real fast from your phone. I don't look at others profile or anything like that. I think its more out of habit then anything else.

Back in my day, the term social networking got you a restraining order. I use to have a stalkbook account, then I realized 80% of my "friends" I haven't talked to (nor want to talk to) since high school and I have no interest in seeing what my ex's are doing. It's a great marketing tool if you're a promoter, but the average fb user (imo) has a voyeuristic fetish or is tragically nostalgic.

I constantly post things. Articles, news, opinions, pictures, videos....etc. I don't even know why I bother---hardly any of my friends are smart/interested enough to post on them.

                    Re: Social Network sites addiction

If you want to block FB, just do this (on Windows).

This article will guide you through the process of blocking, scheduling, and setting time limits for Facebook website.

How to block Facebook using the Hosts file

The location of the hosts file depends on your operation system.
Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
                    Windows 2000 C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
                    Windows 98/ME C:\WINDOWS\hosts

Note! Make a backup of the hosts file and put it somewhere safe, in case you mess up.

                    1. Open the hosts file using Notepad or other plain text editor.
                    2. Copy the following:
                    # block facebook
                    127.0.0.1 login.facebook.com
                    127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com
                    127.0.0.1 blog.facebook.com
                    127.0.0.1 apps.facebook.com
                    127.0.0.1 en-gb.facebook.com

                    3. Paste them into the Hosts file after 127.0.0.1 localhost
                    4. Save and close the Hosts file.
                    5. Reboot your computer to apply the changes.
                    6. Try to open Facebook into a browser.

I agree with your voyeuristic and nostalgic point. Facebook really can ruin lives.

Facebook is pretty addicting. I don't really see what the big deal is with twitter.

I'd say OS is more addicting than any social network sites though I spend way too much time on here lol.

I would have to say my other half is more addicted to it then anybody I know. however all of her friends on there are DAV members or Legion members, so for her it is different because she ACTUALLY KNOWS all the people on her page because they served together.

Where as your average FB user, I would say 90% of the people on their friends list they NEVER met in person. At least for me and mines, I could say we actually met and know everybody on our lists LOL.

I always thought it was funny when people would say I am dating this chick and the chick would be a FB chick that never met in person but yet claiming them as an actual relationship. It is like how can you claim somebody that you only talk to online ?
