    Home Depot Rant !

So me and the wife today went to Home Depot because needed a new ladder, hand saw and potting soil. I must say we spent 2 hours in that store because they have laziest workers EVER. Asked them where stuff was at, instead of walking us to it, they just pointed and said it is at that end of the store.

Walked to that end of the store and that damn thing wasn't there. Asked another, she pointed and said no it is at the opposite end of the store. Went to the other end of the store, wouldn't you know, it wasn't there either.

We walked back and forth in that store 6 times. The whole time, we passed clumps of workers, 6 of them bunched up in the middle of the aisle sitting on products, BS'ng around instead of WORKING.

Both me and my wife are ex military. She is 100% service connected DAV, therefore she can't do all that walking back and forth like that for long periods of time before her injuries flare up.

It flared up, then I flared up and said WTF is wrong with this store ? Then the workers going say oh do you need help sir ? My wife was like you got to be F'ng kidding me.

Needless to say we just walked right out that store. Unbelievable !

I'm the least "handy" guy ever, so if I have a question (which is, always) I try to go to the Mom and Pop / locally owned stores...

I've pretty much ONLY had that type of exprience at Home Depot, OP...

It's a common complaint, but they never seem to address it...

            Lazy *** workers.

Off-topic but I hate people who ring you up at the register and don't say a damn thing to you. They don't even look at you. I always say thanks or have a good day and they say nothing at all.

                That's bothers me as well.

But as someone who works in the retail world, I hate when customers come to the register and I try to be nice and get zero response.

I understand it's the employees job to be nice to the customer as they're paying my check, but I still feel it's a two way street.

Back on topic, that is wrong. Every retailer I've worked for preaches walking the customer to the merchandise. Granted, I've seen many occasions where the employee doesn't do that, but it is taught.

Lowes is better. I worked at Lowes during college and there was a retiree who used to work for Home depot in my department. He basically said Home depot has a bunch of rules in place that make it hard to help customers.

At Lowes, if you see those red need help signs, someone will come and help you within 3 announcements or they will get in trouble. I've had the store manager ask why you didn't help someone quick enough. Even if you are helping other people, you are supposed to go and turn it off and say you will be right back. They track the time it takes and sometimes a manager will go and turn it on and wait to see how quickly you come and help.

                    Re: Home Depot Rant !

I worked Home Depot for a year and a half stretch in the plumbing department and while I can"t fully explain away your "shopping" experience...I can tell you 80 to 90 percent of bad customer service there is company policy/employee wear down.

The pointing thing happens because they frown on you being out of your "area". And while that seems silly, the root of it is if you were working plumbing and you walked a customer to garden tools...half the time they want you to show them their next item, you become their own personal shopper. Or another time, you get stuck in garden tools as multiple customer in that location ask for your assistance...all the while plumbings uncovered. Some of this gets built in as on a slow night your coverage area might get expanded as they send people home early. I once spent a 3 hour stretch covering the whole back half of the store (lumber, doors and windows, plumbing, appliance, flooring, storage solutions) and was reprimanded by my department head for not getting my inventory checks done.

The standing around thing is often a manager telling you to prepare to block an aisle for a lift operation or a posse round up to do a mass product pull. Once agian if you leave the area they asked you to be at to help a customer...you got heat for it.

The place just wears you down with what's asked of you. I quit after being wrote up for a insane situation where I was called to the front to cover for the lot attendant who was late. Helped load some doors on a truck, but the customer was irate that I wasn't allowed to tie the items down for him. Even when the front end manager came out and explained the policy, the dude said he wasn't buying the doors if I didn't tie them down. So I ended up unloading the doors while a guy cussed me out.

While all this was going on, a man had brought his clogged J trap to the plumbing department for help. While I was outside, he spilled water on the floor...slipped on it and was claiming something popped in his back and wanted an ambulance....I'm still outside unloading doors at this time. Because I have to cosign a customer complaint form for the front end manager, I get back to my department after the medics arrive. Now the assistant store manager wants to see me in her office to write me up...while she's preparing the forms...the front end manager pages me to yell at me for not covering my area.

I quit on the spot and on the write up form/resignation wrote..."leaving store due to cloning technology not able to help me at this time to be in 3 locations at one time per store policy"

I don't blame them. My friend is a cashier and wal-mart and you work a 9 hour shift with a 1 hour lunch break and two 15 minute breakes. So you are literally just standing there for 7.5 hours in 2 hour increments doing the same thing over and over. Come the end of the shift, I wouldn't wanna take the energy to look at your either lol

How horrible, your friend has a job. Millions+ in the country would be happy just for that.

As for the OP, it just depends on per store basis. I haven't had any troubles at my local HD or Lowe's.

Then they should get up off the couch and go apply at a place that hires 10 new people a store every week like wal mart

As for HD and Lowes, I'd try to find someone older that probably cares about their job and will actually try to help. Most younger people there they hire on to do the manual labor and not help out customers.

I don't give a damn, it is a job. How hard is it to say "Hello" or "Have a nice day" or "thank you, or your welcome"?

I worked as a cashier before so I know how it is. It's basic customer service.
