    Re: Your gruesome injury stories..

Friday, February 24, 1995: I went to play basketball with my brother and his friends, something we kept on doing for the next 11 years or so. At some point I was dribbiling and running...not sure what happened, maybe I jumped and someone pushed me while in the air (not sure, though)...but the next thing I know - I'm horizontal and about to fall down to the concrete floor with my back facing down. I remember positioning my arms to try to ease the fall...then I fell down. I broke my left wrist and my right one was aching as well (though wasn't broken), and I had such a pain in my tail bone...it was so horrible - feeling this pain in 3 different places and you just don't know where to focus that feeling of pain. My brother drove me to the ER and they took care of it, and I couldn't play basketball for the next 5-6 weeks or maybe more.

In the summer of 2002 I broke that same wrist again...

      Re: Your gruesome injury stories..

All of this is from motocross

3 bad knee dislocations when my boot got caught in a rut next to me as I was getting through a part of the track. I'm delaying surgery but in the next 5 years they want me to deal with it.

6-8 concussions from crashes, I lost vision on one when I got flicked over and got slammed on hard dirt that was basically concrete (aka bluegroove).

Left shoulder dislocates ALOT, atleast once a week now. That's probably the worst because of sleep, cant sleep on my left side because of it. My first time there was a double-double-triple section (two jumps, etc) and I got lined up wrong for the 2nd set and basically landed on my shoulder at the top of the lip for the jump. I think the DRs want to do surgery on my shoulder first because of how loose it is. Everything holding onto it is essentially a really old and stretched rubberband

Fractured ribs from the bike "kissing" me as it landed back on me.

Broken all fingers on my left hand, two on my right. Broke my left forearm 3 times, having the bone get set back is always an eye opening experience. Broke my left wrist 4 times, my right wrist twice.

I know I'm missing some stuff but thats an overall look. I'm pretty lucky to have never broken a leg

-Oh I forgot one of the bigger ones, I dislocated my left hip on impact. That was probably the worst one I experienced because I wasn't laughing when it happened. It still comes out and its not fun

I didn't get my pro license because I couldn't survive injuries to meet the requirements (its been so long but I think you had to have atleast 1 or 2 full seasons of A series races). I still have my bags of gear and what not in the basement, been meaning to sell some of my sponsor helmets since I dont need them until I'm married

My head was in this bucket at the time the building(on fire of course ) collapsed on us.
Note the melted eyeshields(just a bit toasty in there I'd say)..
2 weeks in the Burn Center(on and off).
              Not fun.
The guy in front of me got it worse though....so I'll consider myself lucky.
Awesome job by the docs and nurses though. I'm still as pretty as ever()with very little scarring.

However, the worst for me is probably when I was 11 years old. I grabbed a basketball from my brothers room...bounced it against the wall on the way out and it hit a piece of moulding running around the room and instead of bouncing back...it bounced up and hit the chandelier ....showering me with glass shards(big)....one of them entered my right arm and severed my artery. The blood spurting out was like a geyser......it was unreal.
Thankfully, my pop was home and put a tourniquet on and got me to the hospital quickly. I remember looking down at my arm and everything inside...was popping out. YIKES!
My poor mother dropped the turkey platter when she saw me walking into the kitchen like a scene from a bad horror flick.
              Thanks pop!

When I was in 6th grade, I went to the Ice arena with my brother... My parents dropped us off but gave us money for food and to sharpen our skates.. After all we played hockey and we had a game that Sat night.. Well Public skating was Sat @1pm.. When you go public skating "Or used to back in the day" you could skate any way, Horse around and had limited rule.. Well I was Flying around the corner and my Brother was standing on the boards with a couple of friends.. I went as fast as I could to get " A GOOD SPRAY" of the ice on him.. Well I started to stop and instead of spraying him, I Lost my edge... He caught me out of the corner of his eye... He jumped as he didn't see me falling.. I slammed into the boards and my body started turning.. Well my hand went on the ice and my brothers freshly sharpened skate came down and near cut my finger off... Needles to say... I will always wear gloves when I skate... My parents kept telling us but Hell, We played hockey and we knew how to skate Well I had 40 some on stitches, cut through tendons and ligaments, and nerves.... I now have a scar about 3 inches down from the V in my Ring finger... I have no feeling in that finger now and I can't straighten it out... The only time it hurts is when I cut the finger nail... Wierd... Funny thing is since it cut all the nerves and I didn't feel a thing.. My cousin who was behind me said Tim you finger is hanging... I didn't even know.. I looked and saw a pool of blood on the ice and Started swinging my hand saying Sh@t,, Sh#t, Sh@t!!!! LOL....

I haven't had anything super gruesome, the worst would probably be the time I fell out of my tree house as a kid. I was 7 or 8 at the time, and we had a party. So me and my friends were up in this tree house-ish structure. Someone called me down, I misjudged my position in relation to the exit, and fell right out. On the way down, I still remember thinking I had already hit the ground. So I put my had behind me as if I was going to get up, and then I hit the ground. Broke my arm in 4 places.

Had stitches about 13 times and, fractured my foot playing basketball and walked home from the court, that was painful, by the time I got home I had to cut my beloved Jordan's off, because my foot was so swollen.

Worst injury was a torn acl. I was playing ultimate frisbee. I'm on defense, I try and run in front of someone to intercept a pass. We both get our hands on the frisbee, and as he moves in the opposite direction of me, he tries to pull the disk towards him. My left foot somehow gets caught in the ground and my knee twists, I hear a loud pop, and it gives out. I lied on the ground for a minute, eventually got up and walked off, and about 10 minutes later it didn't feel too bad, just stiff like I sprained it. I tried to play again but within like 30 seconds, first time I put any real weight on it, my knee gives out again and I hear another pop, a little softer than the first time. I guess I probably tore the rest of it the 2nd time.

                        For me:

I've never really had any gruesome injuries. Hell, I haven't really had many serious injuries.

When I was playing football senior year I went up to block an extra point early in the second half of a game. I used to just jump on the long snapper from the side (illegal, I know... but I never got called for it in two years of playing on the XP Block team) and try to elevate high enough to get a hand on the ball. Well, this time I ended up on top of one of the other offensive linemen, basically laying on his shoulder pads. My teammate came from behind and pushed the pile I was on top of (I only knew this after watching the film). I ended up falling from 6+ feet DIRECTLY on my right shoulder. I was in terrible pain on the ground. The teammate that pushed the pile was above me saying "c'mon c'mon... you gotta get up" as I lay on the ground. I was able to get up and to the sidelines. The team doctor and the trainer helped me gingerly remove my pads, thinking I had broken my collar bone or something. My parents came down from the stands, all concerned and stuff... lol... I was in pain, but I was fine. In fact, I wanted to go back in the game until our opponents grabbed a 17 point lead on us and basically put the game out of reach. In the end, I was diagnosed with a grade 1 AC sprain. I couldn't imagine what a grade 2 or 3 feels like if that's what a grade 1 feels like...lol. The good thing was that I knew when to stop drinking the next night because I was able to lift my hand above my head... lol. I played the next week with a big extra shoulder pad.

I've witnessed two fairly gruesome injuries:

                        1. Freshman year of college, I had an IM flag football team with some buddies. We went into our last game out of the playoff race, so we decided to have fun with it. We went shirtless and painted numbers on bare skin. The only problem was that the game was in November in the northeast, so it was COLD. At one point, one of our best players (Pat) was running upfield and toward the sidelines with the ball. A kid grabbed his flag, and Pat fell to the ground and rolled out of bounds. As he finished his roll, I heard him yell in pain. As soon as I saw the way he fell and how he yelped, my first thought was "his collar bone is broken." Lo and behold, I look down at Pat, face up, on the ground and you can CLEARLY see where his collar bone is broken. The bone wasn't poking out of the skin or anything, but you could tell it had broken because it was bulging up and stuff. We had one of our friend's girlfriends drive him to the hospital and kept playing... lol

                        2. I used to film my school's 9th grade and JV football games when I was a senior in high school (I played varsity) since I always went to the games anyway and worked for our school's "SportsCenter" program. I was filming from one of our school's 9th grade team's sideline as a play came from my left toward the sideline. I can't remember who had the ball and who was doing the blocking/ball carrying/etc., but there was a pile of 4 or 5 guys near the sideline as the play ended. I couldn't see much of the pile in my lens because the team had moved up toward the sideline. So, I shut my camera off and was just hanging out, waiting for the next play. All of a sudden, I heard a fan in the stands just behind me yelling "Trainer! Trainer!" I looked at where the pile used to be and there was one kid there on his back. He had his right leg up in the air and his toes SHOULD have been pointing skyward. Instead, they were almost pointing strait down. I'm not sure if it was his ankle or his leg that broke, but he did some major damage. The kid was a trooper though. I don't recall hearing his yell or scream or anything. He just laid there sort of puzzled with his leg in the air at first until the trainer came and eventually an ambulance arrived. It was kinda gross though.

                          Re: Your gruesome injury stories..

I was playing a 7on7 game my freshman year when I tried to jump a route to get a pick. Thing was, we were on turf, and that isn't the most gracious surface to stop directions in order to stay inbounds. I got the pick, but when I went to cut to the field, my left foot stayed pointed towards the sideline and my right leg crossed toward the field, so that resulted in a sprained ankle.

Falling in the sideline, I crashed into the metal bench that cut my thumb to my wrist to deep to the bone (and I swear into the bone.)

Not done yet. after taking out the bench, I fall onto the concrete, which jams my finger back (not bad at all, but it permanently bent my right ring finger) and skinned the entire back half of my hand. (literally skinned.)

I had to tape it up at all times the rest of the summer, and had to wear gloves to play football, or else my skin would literally be pulled off.

There was also time I was in Kindergarden when I was playing on one of those playset things with the wooden bridge. I tripped and my eye landed exactly on the bolt. I didn't feel anything, but apparently I was gushing pretty damn bad. Had to get 5 stitches in my eyebrow.

                          That's it.
And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU

When I was 12 I broke my leg playing football, had to have a cast on for 7 months because my bone broke in 5 different places.

I also ending up tearing cartilage in my chest because I was on crutches for so long when I broke my leg.

Last night I was in the ER for 5 hours because of this sharp pain I have had for about a week in my stomach. This pain I am dealing with is actually worse than when I broke my leg, probably because breaking a leg happens very fast.

After blood and urine tests everything came back clear..but I am still having issues, the doctors are very confused unfortunately.

He was playing goalie for his high school soccer team, and reached for a 50-50 ball with his hands. As he outstretched his body to reach the ball, he got kneed at full force in the stomach, knocking him down in agonizing pain. Doesn't sound that bad, right?

Turns out he needed to get all of his intestines removed and put back in his body from this freak incident. The doctors said the chances of him sustaining this injury were less probable than getting struck by lightning. Had he gotten kneed one inch further from that spot, and exactly one second later, we wouldn't be discussing this. I don't know the exact odds of the injury, but you wouldn't believe them if I told you.

I've seen the pictures of his intestines outside of his mutilated body. It is a horrific sight.
