Just Finished the Tipping Point by Gladwell. Interesting to me. I would recommend it to anyone with interest in the areas of business/marketing, sociology, psychology, or human behavior in generalComment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I'm 200 pages into A Game of Thrones and it just gets better with every page. I'm trying to get halfway done by the end of the weekend since I won't get much of a chance to read during the week.

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Man, I wish I was reading A Game of Thrones for the first time. I've read it three times now. The next two books in the series are even better.
I've been reading Conn Iggulden's novel about Kublai Khan entitled Conqueror. It's fantastic and I can't recommend the series highly enough. It starts off with the story of Genghis Khan's childhood.Comment

Spoiler
For me, when Bran "fell" it jumped up a level and kept a good pace there. Last night I read the Eddard chapter with the end of the jousting tournament along with the Tyrion and Arya chapters. The book jumped up another level. Amazing to read right now.

I typically read history, political, social and sports books. Out of all the books I read, I haven't read a novel in years. I think the last novel I read was "The Spook Who Sat by the Door" by Sam Greenlee. Which is a great book as well. I decided to download "11/23/63" to my Kindle and so far it's very interesting. Looking forward to getting to the part of how this story ties into the Kennedy Assassination.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Re: OS Book Club Pt II
Just finished American Gods. Now I'm reading this:
This season's Friday Night Lights, Heart of the Game centers on the death of Mike Coolbaugh, a minor league coach who was killed in July 2007 by a foul ball rocketed off Tino Sanchez's bat. Coolbaugh died almost instantly, his body carted off the field of the Double-A Arkansas Travelers on a suffocating Sunday evening in Little Rock. He was thirty-five years old and the father of two, with a third child on the way.
Mike's ********* life—his devotion to game and family—is the spine of the story. But it isn't the drama. The drama is in the telling of what can happen when a projectile hits the wrong place on the human body, of the lives being lived up until that fatal moment, of the remarkable people who happened to be in the ballpark that night, of the impact on the man who hit the ball, and of all the lives left behind.
Price reveals anew that classic heart of Americana—small-town sports, small-town lives—and makes us understand that a game played away from the mindless churn of Internet blather and highlight shows can be more important than those played on the national stage.Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I used to be a big reader as a kid but from high school until recently I just couldn't get excited about reading.
Then I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and it has really got me back into reading, I forgot how fun it is to just sit down and read.
Some of my friends recommended The Hunger Games. I finished it in 2 days, I loved it. I can't wait to move on to the second one and I'm really interested to see how the movie turns out.
Funny you mention The Hunger Games... we got it for my father 2 years ago for his birthday. I've seen it sitting about on the coffee table over the past few months. My brother read it. Then my fiance'. Then a friend. Finally, I picked it up... like I said, I was engrossed. Totally lost in the realm of the 12 districts and the Capitol.
Read "Catching Fire" (the sequel) in about a week. NEED MORE... I'll be starting "Mockingjay" this week.
Can't wait to see how the movie for the original book goes. I'm going to check out the trailer now.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Fully recommend this book...
SpoilerI bought this book on my Kindle Fire while I was with my dad in the hospital. 10/10. I couldn't put it down. I am not a Rangers fan, but I do root for Josh Hamilton. He doesn't attempt to hide anything. It is a brutally honest account of his life from the time the Rays took him #1 in 1999 to his second season with the Rangers. It made me realize how gifted this guy is. When I was reading, I was thinking that Hamilton is The Natural. There's no telling where his career could have ended up if he didn't get addicted to cocaine and later crack for four years. I'd recommend it to anyone. His faith plays a part in the book, but it is not put out there in a 'preachy' way. He never comes off like a 'religious' person. It is a book about baseball to a degree, but more so about his addiction and the hurt that it caused not just him, but the people around him. It's an easy, fairly quick read.Comment

Same boat. When I pick up a book, I'm engrossed... I just don't pick them up that often. I recently gave up some bad habits, and have a little extra time to kill. Being on the internet or listening to music is great, but it's getting stale and making me feel bad about my lack of doing something semi-productive . I'm getting a nice tax refund check, and I'm thinking of treating myself to a Kindle or Nook... not sure if I want to go all out or just get a basic setup. Not even quite sure if I want to, but I wouldn't feel too guilty if it was a book-reading device.

They are WELL worth the money. I am so glad that I finally got one.Comment

Re: OS Book Club Pt II
I finally moved onto A Clash of Kings and it certainly picks up where A Game of Throne left off and ups the pacing about two-fold. I guess since A Game of Thrones acquaints you with a majority of the players and locales it makes reading A Clash of Kings somewhat easier and faster, but the pacing itself is like a straight-forward march and I love it. When I finish an Arya or Jon chapter I always flip forward to see when the next one of their chapters is, haha.
