I finished that not too long ago too. Definitely a must read for anyone on OS.

I'm trying the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik right now and really enjoying the first book so far. It's basically an alternate history/fantasy of the Napoleanic Wars with dragons.

I'm going to get back into reading after not reading anything for about 6 months. I just ordered these:

When I read the title I was expecting it to be about Armando Galarraga & was wondering how they made a whole book about that lol

Currently reading Odd Thomas. First Koontz novel I've picked up, and I'm impressed thus far.

I'm one of those old farts who still uses the public library. Due to this, I had about a 10-day layover waiting for my requests to arrive from at my local branch. I finally got the email yesterday... next up:

I also checked out The First Frontier by Scott Weidensaul, an early American history. That period has always been of interest because I grew up in a town with a restored colonial-era fort. Which by the way is a pretty damn cool site to visit if you're ever in the area of Ligonier, PA.

I just picked up Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 two books that I've been wanting to read for a long time.

With those 2 books and the 3 books I posted in here a couple of weeks ago I'll be good on reading material for the next month or two.

After I finish those I'm going to start reading Hunter S. Thompson material. I love the movies and I have some friends who are fans of his writing and they said I'll enjoy it, so I'll take their word for it.

Brave New World is great. That, 1984, and A Clockwork Orange were fun to read in high-school.

I read 1984 last year and enjoyed it. I don't know why my high school didn't include any of those books in the curriculum.

We also read Lord of the Flies and while it is a great book, I feel its more...obvious than the others already listed as far as lit. analysis goes.

I love my library. If they don't have what I want, I can reserve books or movies online from any of the libraries (about 100) in Nassau county.

I am always reading a book. I recently went through the 5 books in a Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones series). Enjoyed then all, except with the last 2 the story dragged - I think those 2 could have been edited and combined into one book easily.

Now I'm reading World Without End by Ken Follet. It's a follow up (same town 200 years later) to The Pillers of the Earth. That one was about a man set on building a cathedral in England, life in the Middle Ages and Church-State politics.

                          So...I lost my Kindle.

I thought I just misplaced it and was expecting it to turn up sometime last week, but after looking for it and not finding I think it's time to move on.

I've been spending a lot of time in B&N since I don't have my Kindle to keep me occupied in my spare time (I usually read it in between classes) and I've had tons of time to play with the Nook. Really sweet device and I'm thinking about picking one up.

Let me know how that book is, as I was watching C-Span's monthly In Depth program and Tom Brokaw mentioned it (not by name but the author and what he was talking about in it) and i'm curious how it reads.

Anyways i'm reading this weighty tome which I got at the Library:

It's focus is on the naval buildup and the major players of Britain and Germany leading up to the First World War. I'm aware that there is a sequel which my library doesn't have so I hope my GF's library has it, if not i'll just have to find another book focusing on the actual war itself at a later date.

It's been OK thus far. I'm about 2/3 through... still waiting for the good stuff. Not that it hasn't been interesting to this point, including some very personal interactions with and descriptions of Nazi big-wigs. However, since it's focus is the US Ambassador to Germany, it can get somewhat bogged down in the more mundane side of international diplomacy. What I read when looking for my next read implied a more "chilling" look inside the early Nazi rise to power.

Once again, I get the feeling there might be significant developments yet to come, but as it stands I'm somewhat disappointed. Not because it's poorly written or overly dull, probably more about my expectations.

Finishing up The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston & Mario Spezi. It's what the character Hannibal Lecter was loosely based on. The main writer, Douglas Preston goes to Florence, Italy to write a book on a different topic but ends up getting involved in the case.

Up next will be a book on the Paleo Diet unless something else tempts me.
