Root for who you want for whatever reason you choose. If someone actually cares enough to complain and gripe about your choices, that's on them and it's pretty damn pathetic.

Shouldn't you be free to move on and change? I spent most of my life in the Denver area and turned in my Broncos fan card the moment they drafted The Tebow.

For me it's easy because all we have in Winnipeg when it comes to "pro" teams are a CFL team and an AHL team. That's why my teams are from a bunch of different places.

We should still have an NHL team but that's another story.

Root for whoever you want. The only time I thought it odd was when somebody roots for another college over the one they went to. But to each his own.

I live in Tennessee now, but I was born in Jacksonville and lived down in the Miami area for about 10 years.

MLB: I grew up being a fan of the Oakland A's, but just as soon as Miami got the Marlins I started rooting for them.

NBA: I grew up a Bulls fan, well to be precise a Michael Jordan fan so I always rooted for them until the Heat came along.

NFL: The first NFL game I saw was Dan Marino beating the Chicago Bears in 1985 and I was fan since. Jacksonville was awarded the Jaguars in 1993 and I became a fan of them. I still root for the Dolphins, but if the 2 would ever meet I would hope the Jaguars won by 60 points.

NCAA: Saw Vinny throw 5 ints against Penn State and was a fan of the Hurricanes ever since.

NHL: I am not going to lie, I only followed it when the Panthers made it to the Finals.

Watching Emmitt Smith in my youth made me a Dallas Cowboys' fan, even though I live in the heart of Redskins' territory. Dealing with obnoxious and delusional Redskins' fans nigh-every day during football season has made hating them even easier. I am admittedly also partial to the Green Bay Packers, however, because my family on my mother's side owns shares of stock in the team.

I obviously prefer the Virginia Cavaliers for collegiate athletics for a number of reasons, including locality (also because my dad went there for school, I went there for school, and my brother went there for school).

My favorite NBA team has shifted a number of times since David Robinson retired from the Spurs. I've been known to cheer for the Spurs (Tim Duncan), the Mavericks (when they had any combination of Steve Nash / Michael Finley / Dirk Nowitski / Josh Howard), and most-recently the Orlando Magic (Dwight Howard).

Don't really have a rooting interest in baseball or hockey.

Geography just gives you an easy reason to feel an attachment to a team at first. If you develop some other reason to like a team, there's nothing wrong with it.

                I don't think it matters.

Only team I don't root for in Texas is the 49ers. Other than that, I pull for all Texas teams. If I had to go back and do it again, I would probably be a Cowboys fan... but it's too late to change now. It just makes sense. I would get better coverage living here, see all the games etc...

I have a buddy who was born and raised in Pittsburgh area. He loves the Pirates and Penguins, but refuses to root for the Steelers. He claims to be a Browns and Chargers fan. I really don't know how it happened. I thought maybe he just didn't want to root for the team everyone else was rooting for to be stubborn, but that doesn't hold up because of his admiration for the Penguins. They were good through the 90's, when we were little. He's also a Florida State fan. I don't know how that one happened either.

I've always been a Pittsburgh professional sports fan. There was a point when I was in middle school when the Steelers were struggling that I started rooting for the Titans, but when the two met in the playoffs, I found myself pulling for the Steelers... lol. I never caught on to the U of Pitt fandom though. I had season tickets to Pitt football my junior year of high school, but I went to all of two games. I just never really got into them. I ended up attending Penn State, so that's how I became a fan of the Nittany Lions.

                    Bingo.

I've lived in Washington my whole life and so naturally (geographically speaking) I've always rooted for Seattle teams. I was never a big college sports fan until I actually went to college at Washington State and now I'm a diehard Coug fan. The main reason I went there was because I wanted to go to a sizable school, but in a small "college" town. Looking back on it, I sort of wished I would have gone somewhere random in the US, like Florida or Michigan.

I've always rooted for the San Diego Padres and San Diego Chargers as well because Tony Gwynn and Junior Seau are 2 of my favorite athletes of all-time. Plus, I have a lot of family down there who used to always send me Padre and Charger gear when I was young.

I know 2 people who did just that when Tebow was drafted. They simply went neutral though and just don't have a team.

I know about 4 or 5 people who went neutral on the Lakers after the Shaq-Kobe feud. Some held out a few years but simply couldn't take Kobe anymore and dropped them.

I agree. Same goes for a bunch of Eagles fans who jumped ship after the Vick signing

True, not being a fan because of Tebow is much more absurd. He has done nothing wrong, in fact, he has done everything right.

The only thing that bothers me is when some is a Yankees/Lakers or Heat (was Cavs)/Red Wings/Colts fan just because that team is good. And when they stink or don't make the playoffs, that said person switches favorite teams.

Somewhere along the lines of that.

I call them: Bandwaggoners. Not really a word..yet.
