I thought on weekends Metro North run all night?

I remember when me and my girl(wasn't my official GF at the time) went out down to 45th(?)to some club and we left there around 4am, walked down to Grand Central and caught Metro North back to New Rochelle around 5am.

I think it stops sometime after midnight? Not sure. Maybe you caught the morning train?

I know some MTA buses stop running at certain times. The last BX13 bus comes at 12:50AM. If you miss that one you'll have to wait for the 5:30ish(or whatever it is).

The Metro North might be different. I'm not familiar with it myself. I rode that service a few times when I was younger and all I can remember about it was that it was very expensive compared the subway.

The Metro North stops running around 1-2 AM and runs back up around 5 AM.

At least I got something that I definitely need to remember because if I go out and miss the Trains, I'm not gonna have too many lifelines to use other than like one and if that doesn't work then I'm really ****ed

Found a spot and got a very nice deal one bedroom spot in Westchester County where I'll basically be paying the same there what I'm paying here(paying $950 a month) while living in a worse area than where I'll be going to(spot is in New Rochelle). It helps that I'm familiar with that area since I would make trips there in the past to visit people there anyway.

Right now, it's looking like it'll be August/September when I make the move since I'll be getting my yearly review at my job in July and there's a 98% chance(left 2% out unless something unfortunate happens like dying)I'll be getting a nice pay raise and a promotion as well.

I too have been "many places" in my life and I have to say without a doubt NYC has the best public transportation bar none. Maybe the Metro or whatever they call it in Brittan comes close as far as getting around the city but you can't beat NY on that.

Also I'll have to say , being partial to NY mind you, it's a city you have to live and experience. I'll say Boston comes close also. IF you're living the college life, if not then forget it.

But like everyone says, or one in particular, the rent is TOO damn high. Or is it the rent is too DAMN high? lol

But you can get anything you want in the city. That I like. All that being said, I live in NJ as the rent is TOO damn good to pass up and I have a bus that's practically at my front door to take me straight into the city in no time.

Which leads me to the other issue, you have NO need for a car in the city. It really becomes more of a headache than what it's worth especially if you don't have a parking space which is usually extra on top of the rent that is TOO damn high.

But if everything lays right for you it will be an enjoyable experience.

I agree with you on public transportation. NYC has the best public transportation in the us. I live in Williamsburg Brooklyn and the rent is getting ridiculous .. I pay close to $1200 for a one bedroom apartment. Everything is easily accessible in NYC.

I've been thinking about leaving this area for a while not but now I'm at the point where I definitely do plan on making this move within in the next year, hopefully by the end of next summer.

I pretty much grew up and spent almost all of my 24 years here but now I'm at the point where I could use a change of scenary so I figured New York would probably be the best place for me, especially since I'm a City Guy so it'll almost be like I'm still in DC except more people and more traffic, etc.

So what I'm looking for is to see if any of our OS NYCers on here(and I know there are PLENTY of ya'll around here lol)can help me out whether it be advice, recommending where to look for an Apt and where not to, etc. Not looking for anything super expensive but not looking for anything run down or anything as I can pretty much stay in DC if I wanted that lol. I'll be doing some research of my own as well to look for a spot. Job-wise I'm pretty set for now, although I will be looking around as well to see if there's anything else out there.

But yea, if anybody that's lived in NYC or currently live there now can assist me in this then I'd greatly appreciate that.

I'll say this. There's pros and cons in living in NYC. The night life is great. The city never sleeps. I can go outside right now and grab almost anything to eat. I'm in manhattan in 13 minutes from my house. Everything is accessible and there's many things to do. NYC is very multicultural which is great. Lots of places to eat. Yankee stadium lol. There's also the bad. Very high cost of living. Crowded at times. Small apartments compared to what you get in other states. High taxes and a horrible mayor. Hope that helps..

N.Y. is awesome....and not awesome at the same time.....but in my 45 years(okay....knock off the first five...who remember that anyway?)....in N.Y.C.....MUCH more awesome than not.

I remember when Williamsburg used to be relatively cheap. What part of Williamsburg are you in? I grew up off of Flushing Ave., near Woodhull Hospital.

I was fortunate enough to not have to pay ridiculous rent when I lived there. Before I got married, my wife and I found a decent two bedroom in Bushwick where we paid $700/month. We split from there in 2001 because the landlord kept dragging her feet fixing the busted boiler, so we, along with the other five families in the building, withheld rent. Our next (and last) apartment, we got with the help of my wife's cousin. The landlord knew her and gave us a break on the apartment, $675 a month. Again, it was just a "decent" place. Since we moved south, you get so much more for your money.

I miss the energy of the streets sometimes. Sometimes I miss being able to get up at 2 in the morning and going to get something to eat, not worrying if I'm going to find anything open. Sometimes I miss being able to go to the pizzeria and order a beef pattie with cheese. But not enough to move back. My favorite times in NYC were always summer and fall. I hate winter with every fiber of my being, too. I can't imagine what I would have done if I was up in NYC this past winter. I probably would have pulled my hair out, and I'm already bald.

I love NY, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Now I wouldn't want to live in Manhattan, but in Brooklyn I'm more than content. I just hate the feel of suburbs and/or areas where you have to drive 15 minutes to the nearest town to buy a gallon of milk.
