So, ok.... it IS fine if your 9, 10, 11 year old daughter shakes her *** to cheer on the team. Ok, then fine. But now you can't criticize the half-shaved, sardine-smellin', raincoat-wearin', tent-pitching dimwit in the crowd who only showed up for the entertainment OFF the field.... now can ya?

No to sound like the pedobear, but I would have to see the butt shaking to see what all the uproar is about. Bad example, but this is like me working at chippendales and not swing my junk like a propeller WTH am I thinking? But you guys get the point. If they were dancing like the girls in the Drop and Gimmie 50 music video, I would agree.

The only reason you guys have a stake in this issue is because of the controversial "booty shaking" of a 12 yr old girl. The concept remains the same though...parent feels child is unfairly treated, when in actuality child is being fairly treated, and just doesn't want to cooperate because they wear their heart on their sleeve (or something to that effect).

Replace the controversy w/ a male football player being kicked off the team because he didn't want to run suicides and his parents crying foul and what is the difference? I'm sick and tired of seeing parents who think they can run things their way if they make a big of stink about it.

The only reason there is a forum on this issue is because it involves a 12 yr old girls butt.

Because everything is that black and white. Okay.

Your comparison is not at all applicable to this situation. Suicides are an exercise that a player might want to avoid due to the difficulty and fatigue. But why would a little girl want to stop shaking her booty? It's not physically difficult.

I don't know who's right and who's wrong in this situation, but I certainly will not sit here and make assumptions on what happened based on generalizations.

The statement in bold is this issue. Not any other hypothetical situations. Forget who the messenger is because that is the thing you seem stuck on...what message is being sent with her dismissal?

And like others have mentioned, why was there no compromise? She couldn't just sit out that cheer(s)?

I understand that there are many shades of gray, and my comparison is applicable because regardless if you or I agree that a 12 yr old girl should not be shaking her booty...parents...regardless of the situation are NOT within their right to pressure people into making decisions based on the benefit of only THEIR OWN child.

11 other girls, regardless if the action is right in the court of public opinion, have decided that they want to participate w/ what the coach has planned.

Compromising in the real world is a luxury not always afforded to people. It would be more accurate to have done what the coach did in conjunction w/ how the real world operates. However, that "real world" lesson has been eradicated.

And in most cases common sense is the logical course of action. Common sense would suggest that kicking the girl off the team seems a little extreme.

Anytime you deal with kids, you have to deal with parents. If you want full autonomy you need to move on up.

There was a time when parents respected and appreciated the authority of others. I know that my mom and dad rarely ever took my side in disputes over who was right or wrong during a dispute w/ a teacher. The lesson was to respect authority. I'm only 29...have we fallen off that fast in 15 years?

It seems you mainly have two types of parents now-a-days. The "Helicopter" parents, and the absentee parents. Rarely do they seem to fall in balance.

You have to pick your battles...Getting ric over your child being kicked off a cheerleader team, and taking that issue to the Supreme Court of morning shows....pssh. Ridiculous. Unnecessary.

What? Are they that concerned over their child's social development?

Or do they think they are better than the other 11 girls and because they apparently strongly oppose girations of this "magnitude" and feel it their duty to walk the line for others being oppressed by middleschool cheerleader coaches everywhere...

And equally as ridiculous is kicking the girl off the team over 1 cheer. We can keep going round and round, but this is my stop.

I hate to break it to you but the days of "my way or the highway" are just about gone (when not dealing with your own kids). You have to use some common sense and try to work with people. I would hope that anyone, including parents, would speak out if they think something is unreasonable (pre-teen tail shaking for a spot on the cheerleading team would fall under that category, IMO).

Work with people? What would you have this coach or any coach do? Have a meeting w/ all the parents to go over every dance routine to see if their are any "questionable" routines? Regardless, at some point a cheerleader is going to have to do this....You think the ones cheering today didn't "shake their booties" until they reached highschool, college, or the pros? Done w/ this thread too.....

At my high school cheer leader's never "shook their booties". They many just used their pom poms and cheered. I mean, sure they did some dances but, nothing to the point like you would see in a rap video or anything.

The thing I don't understand is why the couldn't just let that girl sit out for that cheer. It's not like they're in competitive cheer-leading or anything. Basically, they're just cheering for fun so, if she doesn't like the cheer just let her sit it out. Problem solved.
