Sounds good in theory but no way could a pro league survive three seasons of being locked out. I know you're probably being sarcastic, but they'd be writing their own death certificate if they did that.

We'll all say that ... until we're in their shoes.

I don't think greedy CEOs grow up wanting to screw all the little guys over, but once they get into a position of power, they (sometimes) abuse it. It's a similar deal here.

I don't want to dislike either, but I won't stand by them if they have a lock out. No way. It seems so moralistically wrong to me. People can barely feed their families and these pro athletes/owners are holding out because they feel there's not enough zero's in their bank account. I can't justify supporting something like that in my head.

I realize my opinion is probably not the popular one, but I doubt I'm in the vast minority here.

If I can feed my family and live comfortably, I'm good.

I know that to be true because I've been there and I didn't need or want more. I was content and felt truly blessed that I had a career that enabled me to provide for my family. Not everyone thinks like me, but that's a different debate.

I understand the "in their shoes" argument. I just think they should be thankful that they never have to worry about their house being foreclosed on or how they'll pay for next month's groceries. They play a game for a living that hopefully they love. They get paid a king's ransom for it. I am just wondering why that can't be enough? I just don't understand the greed.

I'm not really being sarcastic, no. But you're right, it would be suicide.

I'm almost to the point of praying a lockout happens in the NBA just make these Owners get their **** together and to also fix that BS System they have in place. I'll gladly sacrifice February-April(since that's pretty much when I'm INTO NBA)just for them to get their act right.

I love watching sports too much to just stop watching them. If there's a lockout, I'll be pissed, and then I'll wait with great anticipation for the games to start again. Whenever that would be.

For all we know maybe the extra money they are trying to get they want to use an invest in other things. Obviously regular people like us can live the rest of our lives out on lets say 5,000,000 dollars, but some people have bigger aspirations an want to start their own businesses so that extra money helps them. I know what its like, I live bill to bill an my left over money is for gas till my next paycheck. If I had the opportunity to make more money ima take it. I want their to be lockouts because I feel a ton of things need to be fixed in the NFL an NBA. That may be selfish of me but so be it.

That's fine, bro. Lock it out and watch a lot of people not come back. Obviously, a lot of people will, but millionaires fighting over more millions when the working and middle class pay them is beyond ridiculous. A lot of people will be lost. At work alone, I had six of the seven people I asked tell me the same thing... Lock it out, and season tickets will be returned.

There's nothing wrong with having bigger aspirations, but a pro athlete does not have bigger aspirations than say a working man who makes 50K per year to support a family of three. That's me. My aspirations aren't any less than some of these cats. All I'm saying is that I'm not going to be there with open arms when they work out their money squabbles. There's far more important things in life to spend my energy/money/time on.

I don't knock you for feeling the way you do. I don't understand it on the surface, but I don't knock it. I'm going to agree to disagree here.

I could care less as long as I have College Football and College Basketball to watch. Anymore I could care less about pro sports. I use to love pro sports right along with college sports but as I have gotten older my interest in professional sports has dwindled. If it were not for fantasy sports I would probably be done with pro sports all together. It`s even hard for me to watch the big events like the NBA Finals, the Superbowl, or the World Series. Now if it`s the opening round of the Maui Invitational or even the Papa John`s Bowl then my television will be on.

I'm looking forward to the NBA lockout if it gets a hard cap put in, which would screw the Heat's chances of ever adding anymore talent to the Big 2 and Bosh.

The PR hits that both the billionaire owners and millionaire players are going to take for arguing over money will be damaging, especially if the economy and job market are still in the crapper.

I still follow it a bit, but all the opinions I hear from friends is that the "NBA sucks" so I am just wondering... A league on the down slide can't afford a lockout. Maybe I'm wrong. I'd definitely never watch another NBA game again.
The big teams (Lakers, Celtics, Heat (well this year at least) Knicks, etc etc) rake in the big dough. There's a LARGE swath of the league that's either breaking even/slight profit or drowning in red ink. The NBA is no longer a true powerhouse as a TV driven league though they benefit greatly from very generous national contracts. The NBA can't afford a Finals between ho hum teams or the ratings would be quite bad.

So the NBA is living off of the generous TV deals but the crux of the business is at the gate and there are lots of markets where they're not even getting 80% seat capacity. In a lot of areas the situation at the gate is exactly the same or worse than struggling NHL teams in the US. This is why David Stern threw out the "C" word a month or so ago. Stern has never been one to mince words when it comes to the business of the league so this isn't just some scare tactic. We could easily see 2-4 teams disappear after a lockout situation.

The NBA NEEDS a lockout in order to re-define its economic reality.
