OK, I'll tell you this story.


Impressionable young lad. Find band named August Burns Red. Metal from Philly. The guitarist had the Phillies name on his amplifier head. I went home (mind you, this is back in about June of last year.) and looked it up. Saw team. Wanted to be like band.
became Phillies fan from that. Watched a bunch of games and I was hooked. I just loved the way they played.

Phillies fan for life now.

Well, at least you have a story.

Why does ESPN think ANYBODY gives a damn about Golf? Has to be the most boring sport to watch in the world.

Probably because a whole lot of people around the world watch it. But its just a guess.

I can only name a handful of golfers.
That's because of ESPN and playing the TW games.


The TW games are fun and the It's a fun sport to play, but I can't watch it. I've mentioned it before, but I live so close to a golf course that I can throw a football and probably hit it.

When I go to my sisters house, my brother in law always has the man cave TV on golf and I don't know how he watches it.

I don't hate watching golf, I just hate when it means I can't watch JRIB, ATH, and PTI. I'm the classic OCD guy and I don't like having my weekday routine broken up lol. Plus that's my lazy part of the day, so if golf comes on I'll fall asleep.

I've heard worse reasons of becoming a fan of a team.

I've heard of and like the band August Burns Red, but I'm not going to be a Philly's fan just because they like them... lol

Blackhawks fan because they use to kick arse and I had a Blackhawks hockey stick as a kid signed by some player in the early 80s.

Except when they got swept by the Pens in the '92 Stanley Cup Finals

I've been in an ***-holish type of mood all day today after being in a relatively good mood all day yesterday.

But I guess it doesn't help that I'm starting feel like I'm getting sick and that I might not be able to go the Nets game tomorrow. Great way to start a weekend SMH.

There are a lot of people who watch golf, me included. I only watch the majors though. It can be boring sure, but once u start to appreciate how ridiculously hard golf is and just how good the pro golfers are, you enjoy watching the sport more. You have to be so error free to succeed. I don't know. There's just something about watching it and looking at that tiny hole and knowing how hard certain shots are to hit that really grips you and gets you into it. Just me anyway. Plus its a far more relaxing sport. I don't have to sit there in front of the tv for hours watching it to know what's going on. A lot easier to follow.

Well it's the Masters. I think even someone who doesn't follow the sport will at least watch a couple hours of that tournament. The Masters is the Super Bowl of golf IMO.


Anyways...as to the topic of being a sports fan and if you're born to be a fan of your favorite team etc etc. I can tell you I had ZERO encouragement from anyone in my family. My father doesn't watch much sports except for the big events. He has a rudimentary understanding of what's going on but he just doesn't seem all that interested in it. I happened to just discover the local sports teams at the right time when everything was going great. It was one of those once every 50 years kind of thing where all the teams were quite good. I don't think i'd be much of a sports fan if my favorite teams were all in the situations they are in these days.
