Mine is about 4x times that low you got it down to.

Yeah, something I would never want to have to go through. Preferably we would just never see it again.

Thanks for the advice, i'll look into it later when I get the free time. Mainly would just use it for things like previously said food, a video game, gas(well no car now but eventually),etc then just pay it off when I got home or something.

Flooding in upstate New York and Vermont again from 4 days of constant rain. Good thing I live up high on the mountain and not down in the valley. Those people can't catch a break.

As long as your balance doesn't exceed, oh, 35% of your total credit limit for an extended period of time, you'll be fine. Mine is hovering around there since I'm jobless at the moment.

I applied on a couple credit card offers that were sent to me through the mail. Got rejected both times. Still looking to get one soon though and build credit.

Having a CC is awesome if you are disciplined like others have said. In the last 10 years the wife and I have gotten the follow items for free by using the points/ rewards schemes they off:

                1 x LG 42' plasma
                1 x small Sony stereo
                1 x 12 pack of champagne
                1 x Rowing machine
                1 x $500 kmart voucher.

We just buy everything on the card then pay it off every month before any interest is charged. We are still spending the same money we normally would on everyday purchases but now we are being rewarded for it.

From now on we have linked out CC to a frequent flyer program so we are 'saving' all out points to hopefully pay for free flights overseas one day for a holiday but it's going to take years for that many points to accrue.

Gotta watch out for that, when you apply and get rejected, it goes on your credit.

What kind of offers were sent to you in the mail? Have you tried applying for a student credit card?

This is not entirely true. When applying for a cc, car loan, etc it shows a ding on your credit regardless if approved or denied. If you get denied, that ding last approx 14 days from the first app. Obviously if you get approved, that will then start to effect the score as well.

Loans, installment, and revolving accounts cause the most fluctuation in a credit score. The 35% balance to credit line is huge. Stay below that and the score will build faster. For example, you get a card with a 500 limit, keep the balance below 175 if you don't pay it in full each statement.

Also, if you are new to the credit scene, get your free copy of your credit report. You are allowed 1 freebie in a 12 month period and you can see if any activity has been reported on you that should not be there.

Stay on top of your credit and do everything possible to keep it clean. One little blip normally takes 7-10 years to go away.

Perks of good credit are potential employers will not hire people with bad credit in certain companies, better interest rates on home and car loans, and it will even effect your car insurance.

I don't know where you heard this from, but inquiries whether approved or denied stays on your report for two years. However, you may not see the inquiry on all 3 of your reports because a creditor may request your credit file from only one of the bureaus.

I meant 30 days not 14, and in that I was talking about what dinged it the most. Under the inquiry section, it's listed by inquiries in last 30,60,90 days, then last year, then last 2 years. An inquiry from 19 months ago does not cause as big a ding as one from 19 days ago. Either way, were talking minimal points in most cases.

Finally got my brand new garage working. Yesterday the electrician connected it to the electric panel in the house, now they just need to dig a bit for the cable to go underground. Just a single-detached 14x22 garage, but it's pretty specious.
                              My Specs:

                              ZX Spectrum

The computer I was using to get XBOX Live to work with my 360 would die the day before the 53 man roster update for Madden...and with multiple articles to write involving games and online. FFFFFFUUUUUU technology.
