    i hope it works out!
I did the same thing and lost 60 lbs 5 years ago but it's unsustainable. Carbs aren't bad unless you go over your caloric intake for the day.

I weighed myself Monday morning and was 334. I weighed myself this morning and I was 327. I must have lost a lot of water playing The Fight..

Good start to the year for me. I'm finally pulling through my illness that I started the year with (thankfully!) and as of Monday I'd already lost ten pounds this year. My goal is to weigh-in every week this year and to record all food and drink (minus water) that enters my body. I have done a good job of recording so far and it really seems surprising how unhealthy I have eaten by habit.

Just began taking a daily multivitamin as well. I will be weighing in again on Monday. I hope to have dropped a few pounds making my goal 266 lbs. for the Monday weigh-in. Wish me luck!

        Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

My roommate is doing the "no flour, no sugar" diet and she's lost over 30 lbs in about 6 months. I can't do that type of diet because almost everything I eat has some sort of flour product, either bread, buns, or burrito wraps. Even the cereals I love wouldn't be allowed.

I agree with some others about exercise not being fun without sports. I remember years back when I lived with my mom, I'd lose weight like crazy by just playing driveway basketball or walking around the back yard smacking a golf ball around. Now it's like I have no motivation to get off my ***, and the pounds have piled on. I'm at 221 (honestly this is probly 5 lbs less than I really am, but I got really sick and weighed myself afterward, it went so well I haven't weighed myself since lol), and for 5'11 it's a bit high. It's better than the 250 I was at 2 years ago, but I know I can do better.

          Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I started on a pretty good diet program with some high intensity interval training on the bike around November last year. Things were going pretty good until I sprained my ankle playing street football with a few buds. I could hardly put weight on it for like 2 weeks, and I completely fell off the wagon. I'm still beating myself up over it.

Anyways, me and three guys at work signed up as a team for our company weight loss challenge, starting January 28. I'm currently at 6', 210 lbs. Quick question. I was on an approximately 2000 calorie diet along with exercise. Is it necessary for me to limit myself to 2000 calories? I looked up on Google how many calories I can have along with moderate to heavy exercise to still lose weight, and got a whole bunch of different numbers. Anywhere from 2600 to 2400 or so calories to lose weight.

I felt pretty crappy on the strictly 2000 calorie diet. I felt like I was eating so little that i'd get exhausted, and have little energy for workouts. I know it's obviously a transition from the various crap I eat now, but man, I felt like crap. Any recommendations from you guys about how many calories I need to limit myself to? I'm ditching the bike, as I loathed working out on that thing. I'm going to be doing strictly kettlebell workouts Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Got a pretty good 22 minute kettlebell program i'm gonna try to follow that is fairly close to an interval training type of workout: http://www.enhancedfp.com/node/1020

Let me know what you guys think.

Starting P90x today with the fiancee. I'm currently 6'1, 225lbs. We're going with the P90x Lean program mainly because I need to do more cardio in my workouts and it's hard to do the plyometric exercises where we live (small duplex on the top floor).

Looking to shed 20-25 lbs over the course of the next 12-14 weeks with extensive workouts 6 days a week along with a solid diet. Giving up soda's and snacking after dinner starting today as well. It's going to be hell.

I'm going to start going to the gym on Friday or Saturday. Haven't been since March of last year do to some complications that arose from that gym visit. Hoping to find a way to get back into it, but it sucks not having a partener to go to the gym with. I had been running during the summer last year, but around October I had to stop that as well when I started getting cronic sore throats out of no where.

I went to my doctor's appointment this morning and found out my wieght. I'm 5'7" 217 lbs. Want to get down to at least the 190-195 range. Strange though, I don't really look or feel like I weigh 217. Probably going to run a little bit later today.

Use this to determine BMR, and then use the formula they have on the page to determine a good daily caloric intake for yourself. All of these calculators are approximations. Everyone is different but they are a good starting point.

Whats your caloric breakdown of protein, carbs, and healthy fats. Are you logging your food to know what your eating and how much? If not, start, you will probably surprise yourself. You feeling crappy after a workout could mean you either arent eating as much as you think or it could also be that you don't drink enough water. Could also be what you're eating is junk.

When I started going to the gym/working out, i was not eating/drinking enough water and would get light headed towards the end of a workout. Once I corrected that, I was good to go.

Thanks for the link man. I checked it out, and got a BMR of 2132. With a moderate activity level (I don't know how much time i'll have to work out with a daughter on the way), i'd need like 3304 calories to maintain body weight. From what I understand, 3304 is my maintainance level with moderate activity, and it says to cut out 500 to 1000 calories from your maintainance level in order to lose weight.

Does this sound right? Perhaps that would explain why I felt so crappy when I tried my diet, as I was barely at 2000 calories. I'd guess I normally eat WAY more than that a day.

Only one way to find out. Take that appx daily maintenance, and subtract the amount to meet your weekly goals and see the results after a month. If they aren't what you thought they would be, reduce the caloric intake again, and see what happens the next month.

Once you find an amount that works for you, keep going till you meet your goal and adjust along the way.

                      Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I'm doing pretty well so far. I've lost 13 pounds since New Year's. If I hit 20 by the end of the month it will be extremely successful (don't expect to get there). I'm trying to get as much off as possible early on because I know it will slow down later on. Based on what I have done in the past, eventually a 2 pound loss per week will be a huge success. So knocking out 20 pounds in a month when my goal in later months will probably be 7 pounds or so is a really big deal to me.

13 pounds lost since New Year's and 37 pounds dropped since May... with quite a few months "off" in between!

Day 3 of the diet/P90x and I feel like death. So freaking sore today, it's unreal. I'll have a cheat day on Day 10, probably going out to dinner with the fiancee or something.

I really want to try P90x. How much time are you committing to it? I've heard some are up to an hour and a half long. During the week, I'm not going to have enough time to do that.

I'm committing 6 days a week to it. 3 days a week it's an hour long, 2 days it's about an hour and 15 (because of Ab Ripper), and one day it's an hour and half. The hour and a half is yoga, and most of it at the end is stretching so you don't have to do everything.

It's definitely worth it. I've sweated my *** off for the last 4 days.

And sadly, I probably exercised less last year than anytime in the last decade (With school and work I just didn't have the time).

I also would throw in some intermittent fasting every couple of weeks for a day or two (thanks jonesy), and it did wonders. 24 hour fasts can be a bit difficult at first, getting used to the hunger... but if you go for 2 days, that second day is surprisingly easy for me. Afting going a day with little/no food, I just don't feel hungry that second day. Make it over that first craving hump, drink lots of water, and you're good to go.

As a bonus, if you do fast for a day or two, when you go back to eating, you just dont have a desire to eat greasy/fatty foods. I love those kinds of foods, but after a short fast, it just feels disgusting when you eat that stuff and makes you feel like crap.
                              Good stuff man.

I used Intermittent Fasting (www.leangains.com) and working my *** off in the gym 5 days per week to drop 35lbs last year (235-200). Then i ate and drank a bit too much over the xmas period and got back up to 210 but i'm back at it now and have already dropped 3 lbs in the first 2 weeks. My goal is a lean 180 and i'm 5'11. I have a huge appetite so think it'll always be a struggle for me but i'm slowly reprogramming myself in that regard.

Like NDAlum touched on losing weight is simply burning more calories than you consume and finding a method that works for you. I for example am a bit carb sensitive so i diet like Fistorage listed wouldn't work so well for me but it may work great for him.

My current program is weights 3 days per week, running 3 days per week then 1 rest day per week. Sorta like this:

                              Mon: Chest / back
                              Tues: Run 5k
                              Wed: Shoulder / Tri's / Bi's
                              Thurs: Run 5k
                              Fri: legs
Sat: walk 5k (my legs are usually still sore from leg day)
                              Sun: off

I track my cals through livestrong.com which i think is awesome and free. It even has a free android/ipod app as well. I've tried all of the major diet tracking sites (fitday, sparkpeople etc) but i find livestrong to be the best of the lot.

Good luck with your goals in 2011 fellas!

Bad week for me - went backwards and gained two pounds... ugly. I need to buckle down about my diet. I also got in less exercise than usual last week.

It's a new week so hopefully I can get back to where I was last week for next week.
