    Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I've been doing reasonably well: started roughly at 250, now I'm at 243.6. Probably all water weight, but I've busting my *** at the gym and counting my calories. Let's keep this roll goin'!

        Re: OS Weight Loss 2011

I've started up again after gaining 15 pounds the past four-five months. I weighed in at 334 yesterday. (Yes, I know..) I'm doing the weight watchers plus I'm going to put in an hour of The Fight every morning before work. We'll see how that goes.

I don't really need education on what to eat and what not to eat, I just need to stop being a pig and drinking beer like crazy..haha

I was down to 317 from 360 like 5 months ago. Why did I stop?

Things happen, Pete. No need to dwell on a past failing. Just look back at it, try to find the reason you failed, and fix it. I know you can do it, Pete. Now it's time to take care of business and get to where you want to be.

Because it's easy. Food tastes good and working out isn't fun for most people.

            __________

Today is day 9 of my low carb diet and I'm hanging in there. It is not easy, but it works. Down to 219 from 231.

For lunch I had two jalepeno cheddar sausages...they were amazing!

            I miss my cookies though...

I'm not charting my progress as far as actual weight goes, but I am dieting. I've switched to the cereal diet. Twice a day, I'll have a bowl of cereal(Kashi's Go Lean with cranberries is great)and then my 3rd meal is a sandwich(usually turkey with provolone). I'll eat a bagel mid-afternoon(6 g's of fiber per bagel).

I need an idea for a 2nd snack. I don't want to eat 2 bagels per day. I've thought about yogurt but I never feel like I've eaten anything after a cup of yogurt.

I always hear that from people. I eat a lot of carbs myself. Then people question your carb intake. Is it really proven that eating more carbs but staying within a normal range as far as caloric intake is concerned is worse? So if I eat a bunch of carbs but stay at like 1800 calories I won't lose weight? I understand the body needs protein and other nutrients but I can't imagine carbs being bad for you if you burn them off.

Also, another question. I got The Fight for PS3 Move and have been playing roughly an hour a day in the AM. Is it possible that I'm burning between 400-600 calories per session? It is a workout and I'm sore but that number seems high. Then again, I am 6'4" and 330 so I suppose I will burn more than most. I do play intensely as well as I do it for a workout and fun.

Don't worry so much about the carb intake. I do the opposite of the atkins diet. I restrict the amount of saturated fat I take in, so I eat alot of cereal, potatoes & salsa, vegetables, fruits, etc. Just make sure you get some protein too so you have energy.

Yeah I do. I just think there is a misconception on eating carbs. Of course, if you eat too many calories the carbs will hurt.

If you excercise they won't turn into sugars and then into fat. I am an advocate of eliminating saturated fat instead of taking carbs out of the equation.

I once lost 60 lbs in 5 months by eating:
                        1 granola bar
                        1 Banana

Turkey and Mustard on a whole grain roll
                        Non Sweatened Apple Sauce
                        1/2 cup of Animal Crackers

1 Piece of Chicken or Ham or lean steak
                        2 Baked Potatoes with Salsa
                        Corn or Green Beans

I did this every day for 5 months and rode an airdyne 7 miles a day and did alot of pushups and situps. The weight flew off. I just haven't refound the discipline and put 30lbs of it back over the last 5 years.

It has nothing to do with what you eat, but how much you eat.

I do low carb because it's easier to stay full and regulate calories for me.

This. I dropped 35 lb's last year from 210 to around 175 right now just from watching my portion size and not eating so much crap (although I still eat junk food and fast food a decent amount). And sadly, I probably exercised less last year than anytime in the last decade (With school and work I just didn't have the time).

I also would throw in some intermittent fasting every couple of weeks for a day or two (thanks jonesy), and it did wonders. 24 hour fasts can be a bit difficult at first, getting used to the hunger... but if you go for 2 days, that second day is surprisingly easy for me. Afting going a day with little/no food, I just don't feel hungry that second day. Make it over that first craving hump, drink lots of water, and you're good to go.

As a bonus, if you do fast for a day or two, when you go back to eating, you just dont have a desire to eat greasy/fatty foods. I love those kinds of foods, but after a short fast, it just feels disgusting when you eat that stuff and makes you feel like crap.

joined a gym and weighed in yesterday. 212 - yikes! that's 22 of the 30 lbs i had lost by the summer of 2008.

rode the bike for 30 mins and then hit 5-6 circuit machines just to get back in the swing of things.

i'm going try low carb myself to lose 40 more lbs. i've been doing alot of reading from gary taubes and it makes alot of sense they way he's described the way our body reacts to carbs. we're all killing ourselves with all these carbs around. even lowfat/nonfat stuff are terrible for you since they have like 25g of carbs in it.

                                i hope it works out!
