Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
I've gotten back to the point where I'm looking forward to going to the gym so I'm happy.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
To be quite honest, I was expecting even worse results since this last week was my "cheat week" which I always throw in every six weeks or so. I drank a few sodas, had a few cookies, didn't work out at all and even partied a little bit on Saturday and I still manged to lose weight this week, albeit very little. Hey, I'll take it!Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
I will have to see what the results are of my one month check up today at the Dr. When I weighed in there last month to get blood work and all done I was at 334 on their scale. At home this AM I was 315 from a Sat and Sun of restaurant dinners with family.. That would be nuts to have lost over 20 pounds in one month..
At one point last week I was at 312. I hope to be there on Friday. YMCA game tonight. We're going to lose by a lot but at least I'll get a good work out in!Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
I'd guess that I've lost anywhere from five to 10 pounds at this point, which would put me anywhere from 250-260 pounds.
I'm on my second week of P90x and things are going well.
I am not setting foot on a scale until I'm done with the first phase of P90x and even then, I might refrain. I only have about 20 pounds to lose, but I've found that the scale is rarely my friend. For me, I feel it's the worst measurement to go by. Now, if I am just eating better and not working out much, I'll weigh in a lot, but not when I'm on a workout regiment because the scale just won't tell the whole story.
It's quite possible that I've not lost a pound yet with P90x, but I can guarantee that my body fat percentage has gone down and I'm losing inches. That's all that really matters to me right now, as the weight loss will take care of itself if I stay on the course that I'm on now.
I'll definitely check in here when I decide to weigh in, though.
Keep up the great work guys!Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
Low and behold I weighed myself this morning after eating good, playing 2 hours of basketball mon and wed, and running on tuesday, and I saw for a moment 309.8! I'll probably move back up to 310 once I rehydrate myself today but it was nice to see i'm close to 10 pounds away from my first goal of being back to the 200's.
Secondly, I really need to work on my basketball game, I really sucked it up bad last night. hahaComment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
Good job Pete, keep kicking *** mate. Basketball is such awesome exercise, kinda like an hour long HIIT session and the time just fly's by.
I feel like a new man right now. I'm now lighter than i have been since highschool (I'm 30 now) and am comfortably wearing slim fitting clothes that are 2 or 3 sizes smaller than I was wearing at xmas time and the wifey can't keep her hands off me. I'm REALLY getting into my running and think i should maybe look into doing some 10k's or half marathon's in the not to distant future. I've still go a bit to go (I'm 198 lbs at 5'11) and want to get down to around 180lbs or so but i tell ya:

Had a rough week this week. Tweaked my knee last Friday, so the only workouts i've done are the PT pyramid (1-6-1, x1 pullups, x2 pushups, x3 situps (doing V-ups instead)). On top of that, we had a benefit dinner we went to last Saturday for a woman my wife works with, so I wound up plowing down a lot of beer, along with a whole lotta meatballs.
Weighed myself yesterday, and i'm the same as last Friday. Can't see i'm too upset, as I thought i'd have gained weight. Still doing good overall, as i'm down from 210 to 197 since February 1st.Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
Don't sweat the little things mate, I still have a blow out every now and again but it's the overall trend that matters and you've obviously got that working well, nice progress.
The single number one factor for me this time (I've tried to lose weight heaps of time with no success) is consistency. In the past i would go on some crazy diet and workout heaps (weights + cardio 5-6 times per week etc) and it simply wasn't sustainable so i'd burn out, fall off the wagon and go back to my old habits. I'd then tell myself "ok i'll start again on monday" then i'd spend the whole weekend binging on junk food and beer and they try going cold turkey again. Now I occasionally have the odd cheat meal or 6 pack of beers and I don't really care because it's only a tiny bump in the road and i know i'll be back at straight away. It may sound cliche but for me it really is about changing your lifestyle and not just going on a specific diet for x amount of time.Comment

I actually enjoy the food I eat, and i'm not wrecking my body with my workouts. They are certainly taxing, but i've got enough energy the next day to exercise again. That's another reason I love running. I could do it every day and never burn out.Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
Totally agreed man. Another big thing for me that is actually working is only counting calories. I'm not making a huge deal out of exactly how many grams of carbs/fats/etc. i'm taking in. I'm also eating what I want. I tell myself, hey, if I REALLY want a couple Reese's Cups, i'll just have a lighter snack later. I've found that I don't feel like i'm torturing myself this way.

I still stuff up and overeat occasionally but as long as its the exception not the rule and I'm doing work on my cardio / weight lifting I know it's all good. DC linked to this dude on youtube who spoke of the 90/10 rule. If you are doing the right thing 90% of the time in regards to diet and exercise than the 10% of times you let your guard down won't have much of a negative impact and you'll be able to enjoy life a hell of lot more at the same time.Comment

Re: OS Weight Loss 2011
i watched a movie on netflix instant called fathead that was pretty informative. i recommend it to all of u. It's basically a rebuttal of super size me where he actually loses weight just eating junk food...then towards the end it gets relaly informative on weight loss and carbs. he has interviews with a bunch of doctors on the science of being healthy. it pretty much summed up everything i've been researching. i'm about 20 lbs to my goal, but thnk i have a few more i can lose. I've lost about 66lbs so far. good luck!Comment

Somebody on bodybuilding.com did a similar thing and had pretty different results to Spurlock as well: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/issa115.htm
This guy (a professor at Kansas State) lost 27lbs in 2 months on a 'twinkie diet' as well: http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08...sor/index.html
I mean it's all about cals in vs cals out at the end of the day. Eat less than you burn and you'll lose fat/weight, eat more and you'll gain.Comment
