Re: Loss of Smell and Taste
What? That's crazy. Being blind or deaf is one of my greatest fears, personally there's no way I would compare those to a loss of smell/taste, not to downplay either of those senses.
Anyway, this sounds awful, hopefully it's temporary. Can't imagine not being able to taste anything. This is one of the reasons I don't take any medication of any kind, too many side effects that are way worse than the problem they're trying to fix.. Also losing smell and taste is bad too. Not as bad as being blind or deaf in my opinion, but everybody has different things they rather lose.

Re: Loss of Smell and Taste
Look at the bright side OP, at least you can eat as healthy as possible and drink water 24/7 and not have to worry about how much you want a burger and a soda. lol
OP - I wish you the very best. Hope all goes well and hope it's only temporary.Indianapolis Colts

Re: Loss of Smell and Taste
I'd like to echo zRevis's sentiments. If I HAD to lose a couple senses it'd be taste and smell. I can finally stop eating garbage and I'd save a ton of money by getting cheap beer. But seriously I hope everything works out for the OP and I'll never use Zicam. The New England Patriots cheated to win four Super Bowls.Comment

Re: Loss of Smell and Taste
I dont know if this guys is joking or what, if he is genuine, I think the OP should at the very least make an immediate doctors appointment but perhaps go to the ER just to be safe.
I hope it turns out ot was just a cold or illness and clears up, if it doesnt though, make sure you document everything and get proper medical treatment, second opinions and a lawyer as well. If that medicine takes away your ability to smell and taste for life you deserve to be compensated by that company.Comment

Re: Loss of Smell and Taste
I made an appointment with the ear, nose and throat specialist next week. My sinuses are still just a bit swollen and a little sore, so hopefully that has something to do with all of this (I've just never lost total ability to smell/taste before, usually it just gets muffled). It just seems different this time.
Last night, I went in to the garage and took the lid off my gas can and took a big fat whiff and nothing. Same thing with my wife's nail polish remover.
I'm crossing my fingers it will get better. From the details on the class action lawsuits, it sounds like people have lost these senses both temporary and permanantly.
On a related note, the last settlement was for about $35K per person. I thought this was a bit shocking. It seems like $35K to never be able to smell or taste again is a bit of a crappy settlement, IMO.
I do agree about the health aspects though...no need to ever eat a big fat ribeye or fried chicken or drink anything but water.Comment

I thought only the Zicam swabs could cause this... and they no longer sell them.Comment

Re: Loss of Smell and Taste
this happened to my dad.
He had to have some surgery on his nose. pollups or septum i think.
He can smell some days, but he says some days he cant.
He can usually smell rubber cement though.Comment
