    Re: Who loves their job?

Yes 2nd shift is the worst shift I could ever think of. At least when you work 3rd you get some time with family/friends. I guess 2nd is great if you want to go out to bars/clubs often.

I worked 2nd for about 6 months, HATED IT! Plus I had to deal with all the domestics when people came home...you can't imagine how much people hate each other.

I moved to 3rd and worked their for a year. Honestly I liked it. 10pm-6am. I had ALL day to do whatever. No lines in stores, at the gym, still got to see the girl.

Now I'm on 1st (8am-4pm). This is the best as I also have weekends off. I'm about 10 years younger than anybody else on this schedule as I have gotten on the good side of supervisors!

Apostle, I don't envy you man. You stay in a cement prison all day with terrible people who don't give a **** and have nothing to lose. The good part is at least you know they don't have any guns in there.

Not entirely true. I work with some truly great people. I've made some of the best friends in the world behind those walls. Inmates are inmates, and after a while, you get used to their antics.

Like I said before, there is a true sense of security when you know that the man standing next to you would put his life on the line for yours. When you have a work environment like that, it's pretty cool.

Working in a prison has taught me a lot about people. To be honest, not all inmates are bad people. Of course there are the ones who fit the bill on what you described, but some of them genuinely just made a mistake and found themselves behind bars. It's a very thin line between being a free man and being incarcerated.

This sounds so extremely lame but, if I can affect change in one inmate's life, I'm happy. Most of them don't want to change, but I'd guess that some of them do. That's why I am not a dick to them unless they give me a reason to.

I'm still young and I've made some pretty big strides with my career. I'm on an investigation/interview team with my department, and that's pretty cool considering I'm just one of a handful of officers who are on the team. I am going back to college in the spring so I can promote, and as I said before, the promoting opportunities are pretty vast.

I don't want to be in a uniform much longer, though. Being on swing shift is another crappy deal. I have a sweet post and get weekends/holidays off right now, but if I were to try and bid on day shift, I'd get a worse post and my days off would be equally bad (Monday and Tuesday). I'd be home by 3 PM though, and could actually spend some quality time with my 11-month-old son.

I wouldn't mind working for the USPS, but those hours suck.

That is a very good job.

I work 8am-3pm Monday-Friday. I actually work 6.5 hours a day and unlike teachers teaching at schools that are not court schools, we can't take students papers home. So we have a lot of prep time during the day. I make more pay than those teacher too, because I work for the County of Education.

If one can love their job, I guess I'm pretty close to it. I'm senior environmental staff for a "nameless" company. I basically monitor our construction projects for environmental compliance and handle permitting needs. It's a cushy desk job. I've cut my teeth in the field plenty and lived out of a suitcase for a looong time, now this is a reward.

And yes, I pop in here when I need a break from report writing...which I'm doing now.

I work 24 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. I don't make a penny and have the most rewarding job in the world...

I am a single dad of a wonderful girl, who is just starting High School (drama ). I worked way to hard and too long when she was little and missed way to much, so I have "retired" to be a stay at home dad for the remaining years before college.

                  Re: Who loves their job?

absolutely love my job(s)....work as a petroleum reservoir surveillance engineer by day and an oil/gas broker anytime else....

The day job is great because my team is full of talented, laid back and funny laugh on the floor type of people. THe work environment is great.( We play Black Ops during lunch and after hours sometimes) It really feels like a family and my department head is one hell of a leader. He exemplifies the leading by example motto. Used to hear the cliche in sports all the time, but when you're under the tutelage of someone like that, you will run through a wall for them to please and not disappoint. Not only that, the job makes you learn SOOO much because the department is linked to basically every department in the company and the type of oil we deal with varies in type....so a lot of learning experience and application of new technology and all kinds of petroleum engineering applications.

The broker role is veryyy adrenaline-inducing. You'd have to hit on 1 or 2 deals initially to give you more drive, thankfully I have, but this is a great way to work on your diplomacy and entrepreneurship in general since you get chances to meet some top dogs. Not only that, once you score a deal, not only is the commission great, sometimes you can get a small pie in the new founded operation if you play your cards right(still working on this one)......

the office gig, while not as flashy....is probably more beneficial in the long run for the knowledge, experience, etc. Overall.....couldn't be happier. Very grateful...

                      Re: Who loves their job?

I used to hate my job of 9 years and one month, and then I quit after much prayer, and diggin' into the Bible (not to get religious, just stating that as matter of fact).

I'm an investor now with one business that pays the bills and one business I'm trying to launch. In retrospect, I've always been an investor, just not a practicing one.

I think almost no one knows what I've been through, but I am so grateful now, and I hope I don't forget how horrible life was.

                        Re: Who loves their job?

I like my job, but to me work is work and I'm not sure I'll ever be one of those "ZOMG I can't wait to go to work today" people.

That being said, my job and company rocks. We have a few issues with management, along with some politics at times, but my company works like hell to keep people happy. Lots of perks, gives out gift cards as random rewards, free lunch pretty often, etc. My girlfriend just rolls her eyes whenever I mention I got something free at work lol

I've come to the realization that all jobs are going to have their annoyances, the grass is rarely greener on the other side, more just unknown. I have had jobs in the past I absolutely hated though, and this company is top 2 of places I've worked, so I know it can truly suck at somewhere bad.

Well, there's good days and bad days. I love it sometimes and sometimes I dont but ya cant beat it.

Dont like moving around all the time and having to leave my wife for 6 to 7 months reference the deployment tempo now.

Free gym time baby! Steady paychecks. I'll take that. I dont see how folks want to leave this thing of ours.

Oh, and I cant stand Naval correspondence. Oh, you didn't capitalize the I in "Officer-In-Charge" kick that **** back down the chain of command and then get my *** chewed by the Msgt lol. Its cool though, it has its ups and downs like anything else. Life is like a rollercoaster baby.

I wouldn't say I LOVE this job, but I enjoy it much more than my previous job. There were days at my last job where I would sit in my car in the parking lot and not want to get out.

The place I'm at now everyone seems more happy and a much better environment.

I do mostly lower level IT support. I was doing 2nd level stuff before but now I get paid more, go figure.
