Re: OS Cars Thread
My parents had one for a couple of months before they switched it out for another Sorento. I really liked the design though I hated sitting in the back with those small windows. It felt like a fun car.

Found a Black Nissan Altima 2009 for 10 grand. It has 49,000 miles on it. Seems like a good price?
Also it's a reconstructed title. He saids it was hit before, but it's not visible. He painted it and everything.

Re: OS Cars Thread
The only way I would ever buy salvaged is if I'm saving a ton of money. Usually rebuilt cars are worth half the price of their counterparts.Comment

I agree w/ CJones, don't buy a damaged car. At 10k, the seller is just trying to come up on a young kid. Keep looking man; you can get a great car for that price.Originally posted by J. Unless you're getting it for half the value of its counterpart, stay away. Especially if it's only 4 years old, must've been some serious damage.Comment

Re: OS Cars Thread
Definitely took ya'll advice.
I found this 2005 Nissan Maxima though for a pretty good price.
Are Maximas good cars? Or is Altima the way to go?
I've heard people speak on transmission issues. They said they began to feel their gear slip up. Would that only be with a manual car? Or could that happen with an automatic also?
Sorry for the VERY noobish questions fellas.Last edited by Nathan_OS; 04-01-2013, 10:16 PM.PSN: MajorJosephxComment

Re: OS Cars Thread
That model Maxima had tranny issues. Nissan was forced to extend the warranty on all those years. You just had to hope yours gave out before your warranty expired. The car would jerk.
As for Altima vs Maxima, it all depends on what you want. Maxima(also is the 'higher' model) will perform better, especially the latest models, whereas with the Altima you get good gas mileage.Comment

Re: OS Cars Thread
I would ask to see if the original tranny gave out and if it went through warranty. If so, go for it. My bro in law purchased a 06 or 07 for his mom...on his drive to Wisconsin, the tranny gave out. Nissan fixed it and paid for all expenses. It has been running beautifully since.Comment

I think we have decided to go with financing.
This 09 Altima with 50,000 miles is looking like our target.
200 for 3 years is the normal price. But our down payment looks like it'll be around 7,000 so that will be a lot of the money.
What y'all think?

This man is correct on the transmission issues.
Even some of the 2009 - model Nissans with the cvt (continuously variable transmission) transmissions have issues eventually. The transmission is designed to help fuel efficiency by changing gears more frequently. Instead of a fixed gear ratio, there's essentially no set values in the ratio setting.. it constantly changes depending on the speed you're going.
Some cars that are automatic you sometimes have to let out of the gas slightly to convince the transmission to go ahead and shift, but that cvt tranny is supposed to help eliminate that..
We have had three Maximas on our dealership have transmission issues and it's always the same thing.Last edited by AUChase; 04-03-2013, 10:00 PM.Comment
