Save gas? I own a muscle car A good way is use cruise when you can, other than that stay off the pedal.

S[eeding wise, a good radar detector comes in handy, and if just map out where cops usually sit, there's only a few places around here where they sit and radar, so it helps.

      Re: OS Cars Thread

Hey guys. Decided to venture outside of the sports area and found this thread. Figured I'd pop in to say hi.

      Cars I've owned:
      2005 GMC Sierra 2500HD
      2009 Cobalt SS
      2004 Mustang Cobra
      2011 Dodge Ram 1500

      Now:
      2013 Dodge Charger R/T AWD

Wish I hadn't sold my Cobra, loved that car, but I sold it to buy my house. Guess it was technically the smart option to do. Anyways, look forward to chatting with you guys about cars, it's a passion of mine that's gone a bit to the wayside with starting my family.

I seriously want a 2013 F-150 FX4 crew cab. I had no idea those things go for $42k though!

I find it crazy how high priced trucks can get. I guess I just always think of them as basic work tools.

How did you like the '09 SS Cobalt ? I toyed with one before I purchased my 06. I really like the launch control and no lift shift, but I didn't see myself finding enough use for it in the long run. I replaced the injectors, pulleys, intake, exhaust, and did some slight modifications like headlights and eventually tinted the windows. I had the yellow SS with black/yellow leather. I'm sure there's a picture in this thread somewhere.

It's still sitting at my house with a smashed front end and windshield.

I looked at a few myself and saw similar price tags. New trucks are outrageiously priced and even certain makes/models are still expensive.

I decided I wanted to go big this time around for my vehicle and even looked at some F250s and just to get down to the $10-15k range you have to get something around the early 2000s. Who wants to buy a 2006 4WD truck for 20k, knowing it's likely been used off road quite a bit. That kind of shti doesn't show up on an insperion or carfax report.. just incidents that are reported.

I would love a new Chevy 2500 HD or one of the new 4WD GMC Sierre 1500s, but they have outrageous price tags too. The Sierre is priced similar to the new F-150s and it's not like you can drop many features to get it cheaper.. the base model trucks all seem to still have leather, navigation, etc. and still run around 40k.

I can't swing that right now since I'm about to take the pay cut to pursue a better future for myself.

            Unrelated:
I looked at a 2001 Mustang Saleen with 12k miles on it for only $11.5k. I knew it was too good to be true and then I mentioned it to my dad who reminded me about vehicles from the North. I asked the guy for pictures from underneath the car and he wouldn't even send them and then eventually removed the car from Ebay.

I've been driving a few of my dad's trucks over the past few months because I'm so in decisive about a vehicle. Right now I have a 1962 CJ5 Jeep, wrecked SS Cobalt, and 2006 Suzuki Boulevard bike as transportation.

This was a very winded post, I know. I'm at work and trying to kill time

Those generally don't mix well (at least a highway speeds).

But, as far as saving gas, just don't accelerate as quickly as you might want to, coast into stoplights rather than flooring the gas right up until you have to brake, etc. Also, use cruise control! You could also short-shift if you had a manual.

The new Fords are no joke, not sure if the model the guy was talking about but they push out 800 pounds of torque at only 1,400 RPM, its nuts, my girlfriends sisters boyfriend has one and is turbocharged and is putting down about 500-600 to the wheels, he burned out one time and literally could have went about a mile. God i love horsepower

I've never really been a huge fan of Mustangs. I like that particular year model Saleen, though.

My family is def. a Chevrolet family. My dad and both uncles drive Chevy trucks and every drag car built car is a Chevrolet. S-10, Nova, Camaro, etc. We had a mid 80s model Mustang several years ago, but it had a lot of work done and was converted completely to Chevrolet. My dad even took the Ford emblems off and put bowties on it.. lol.

I liked my Cobalt SS. It was a great car to introduce me to speed, and really helped me learn how to control a car with some power. I had it stock for maybe a month before getting a tune and taking her to 300whp/330tq. I think my peak numbers came out around 350whp/400tq before I sold it. It was a fun car, being so light. She'd stick with a LS3 Vette until 80+. I sold her and put all the money into the Cobra though, so I regret nothing

I would definitely buy another if I had a longer commute to work. It's a great daily driver option for someone wanting good fuel mileage while having a fun car at the same time.

As for the Saleen you looked at, they're good cars. The only thing I don't care for in that generation is the 2v motors. Weak internals from the factory (Depends if you want to make much more power though, doesn't matter if you're leaving it stock). I chose the Cobra to get the forged 4v motor from the factory. For me personally, the 99-04 is the best looking generation mustang.

Don't be afraid to buy a car from the north up here. Just be more careful. All of my friends and I stored our cars (My Cobra when I had it) from the first forecast in autumn showing snow until May every year.

Anyways, here's some pictures of my cars.

What are you looking for out of it? Performance or just an every day car? As far as I know there's no common issues with them besides routine maintenance.

I am a student, so mpg is definitely a concern. I'm looking for an everyday car that has some push to it. I know it's underpowered for a v6, but they go for cheap around here.

It's not a terrible car by any means. I've never owned one personally, just people I know have. Never heard of any of them having serious problems with them. Definitely not in the "quick" car category though. I think they're low 16 second cars through the 1/4 IIRC. Not the slowest thing out there though. IDK about fuel mileage really, I'd expect they're average, somewhere around 20-25mpg.
