I came back home. First new order / custom build - really easy experience if you go through a broker.

Love this car. Still figuring out a nickname - temporary name is Brooke (for the Brooklyn Grey color). Definitely my least creative name, so I need to come up with something better.

Humble brag aside, because I am proud of this goal, my favorite part is that after selling the last car privately, the e-tron is the first car I *fully paid cash for*, something I have as a goal now moving forward (not accumulating any debt outside of our mortgage...which we're aggressively paying off).

I've had zero range anxiety (but no commute either) and prefer this car so much more than the Model Y I test drove. It's simply in another class with how quiet and smooth the ride is. It still smells new with only 11,000 miles when I got it. I'm in love with it lol
Thinking about making the switch to an EV and looking at getting back to Audi. How's your beautiful ride been from a maintenance / wear & tear POV?

Anyone else make the EV plunge? The clubhouse favorites are the BMW i40 M50, Porsche Macan EV, and Audi e-tron GT (bonus points for the RS variant).

For an elderly/older driver, do you think the difference in operating an EV vs a gas car is significant? My folks have been driving gas cars their whole lives and I think operating an EV is pretty much the same, but certain things like the braking and plugging in a charger, etc., which we take that stuff for granted, but older people that aren't facile with tech at all might find too different/difficult.

Any thoughts on that? I think an EV would otherwise fit their lives pretty well (no longer have any long commutes, mostly going around town running errands, etc).

I've owned 2 Tesla's for about 5 years now and have had literally zero maintenance issues besides new tires.

Honestly, it would probably take them maybe a week to get used to it.

I just picked up 2022 Suzuki Jimny. I got this specifically because its so small, it can fit on tiny roads we have on the island and can get through difficult paths to get to hidden beaches.

Love this little guy. Its slow but I can get through anywhere and climb up muddy hills pretty easily.

Of course, something I find appealing will take many steps to import into the States. Such is life. That's a nice ride. I have made many memories while recklessly driving Suzuki Samurais and Sidekicks. They were nearly indestructible, similar to the 1980s Toyota Hilux pickups with the 22R 4-cylinder. The Cash For Clunkers campaign took many decent vehicles out to the pasture before their time was really up.

Thank you and yes the only real way I've seen people bring it to the states is to have an address in Mexico and have it registered there.

A Hilux will actually be the next vehicle I will be getting since we need a truck as well. Just need to find one and give it a lift and tire upgrade.

There's actually a pretty interesting work truck version called the Hilux Tamaraw or Champ depending where you buy it in Asia/Australia and it comes with a flat bed or you can customize to be a food truck/passenger/camper/storage. 2.4 L turbo diesel. Base price is 16,000 usd too. I would have gotten one if it were 4x4.

This past weekend we finally picked up our first EV. Traded in my wife's Mercedes GLC for a VW ID4 AWD Pro S Plus. I'll post pics later in the week, but so far we really like it. Drives great, has plenty of options and is a really comfortable ride. We still have the Macan S, so we still have an ICE car for longer trips.
