    Re: Tornado Outbreak Discussion

Gov. Robert Bentley said the federal government has declared Alabama a category one natural disaster, a ranking as high as was given to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina and the terrorism on 9/11.

Been following this for the last few days, and it is just horrible. It looks like a bomb was dropped. My prayers go out to them.

Still no power at my house according to my neighbors, so I'll take refuge here in Auburn a little longer. Man my fridge is going to smell when I open it. At least I'll have a fridge to go back to though.

Something that I think a lot of people have not thought of are the children and their lack of understanding what happened. They are all of a sudden without homes, clothes, and toys and don't know why. This week I am sending lots of toys and clothes for some children that need some kind of normalcy in this. I have learned from a friend of mine that there is a family she knows that lost everything and they have a little girl that is just a month old. Many of you know I had a little girl that passed away shortly after she was born in 2005. I am sending this family a case full of baby girl clothes that would have been our daughters. I decided it would be better for these needy people to have them than my wife and I to hold on to them.

trying to talk my church into letting us go down to Smithville and help out in the cleanup. I have family down there who can host us and put us in housing.

Its ridiculous people here in my town are talking about "how hard" they go hit. The worst damage I have seen is a roof halfway torn off a house. Most house here have broken windows and destroyed siding, but that doesn't compare to what Alabama is dealing with. Those people truly got it hard.

I'm still a bit spooked that apparently a tornado touched down for a while literally up the road from my house.

You're the man!! I didn't know about your daughter and I'm sorry to hear that. Most people would not do what you're doing and it really speaks volumes about what kind of person you are. I'm sure whatever family receives it will feel blessed to have it.

I took refuge in Knoxville for a few days. Glad I remembered to empty the fridge before I left.

My power has been out since 5:45am Wednesday morning.

I just got it back this evening. It's been rough, but no where near as rough as it could be. We ran on generators at the house for the past few days.

I don't even know what to say. Hackleburg has definetely been demolished. I didn't read through the whole thread yet, but I hope everyone in your family that may be left is still okay Jeremy.

I've been in Cordova a bunch, the past few days. I've been helping, along with some other guys from work.. It's a mess and It's heartbreaking.

The worst damage we had at my house was several fallen trees. I jumped up at 5:20am (sirens going off) and went to the living room and then made sure my mother was awake. I was watching on the TV and laptop about 5:35 and it was getting rough. I told my mother to get going to work out of her head.. we needed to go to the storm pit... crazy roaring and monster storm.. we were lucky. My grandmother's house came within a few feet of being hit by a giant white oak. Thankfully, my entire family is safe..

As most of you know, I work for Home Depot and Thursday and Friday was chaos. We were the only place in Jasper open and we ran on backup generators. I bet we put out 200+ generators in just two days. We've talked to the central office and we're getting a donation prepared for the red cross and some other things.. along with getting as much bottled water as we can to Cordova.

An area not mentioned often, but took a major hit is Sipsey.. I helped a guy who owns a service station there, yesterday. He lost his four vehicles, home, and everything. He's also a renter and most of his property has been destroyed. We're doing what we can at work to reach out to him. We offered some of our equipment to some of the effected areas and offered to come help, but with numerous people still missing, it's impossible to just push debris without checking.

There are so many areas effected and it's some heartbreaking stuff. They are using the old airport in Jasper as a base for the power companies. I've seen so many trucks from other states like Georgia, Illinois, and even Michigan.
