I think what's hard for people to comprehend (and what I've been dealing with emotionally) is just how invested those of us in the military or federal agencies have been over the past 10 years. Our lives were forever altered because of it. I've been away from my family for the culmination of years because of this man and, Jackdog, I know you've given even more than that. This, at least on some level, validates all that we and our brothers-in-arms have sacrificed over the past decade.

I posted on FB that we in the uniformed services and, to some extent, America as a whole needed this. We've been at war for nearly 10 years and haven't had a V-Day or Armistice Day to celebrate and end or milestone. This is our "sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square" moment. It isn't the end of the war, but it marks a tremendous victory and one that we've been so desperately hoping for. This will reinvigorate our resolve in this continued on-going campaign against terror, tyranny, and evil.

As for people celebrating his death....I don't really perceive it that way. People are celebrating a major victory; a defining moment in our history just as people celebrated the death of Adolf Hitler. Is it uncouth or barbaric? I hardly think so. He willingly entered into war against our country and death is always a consequence in war. I applaud them for recognizing this moment for its place in history and showing the solidarity to show that being an American and remembering the sacrifices made by those at the hands of the now deceased Osama bin Laden.

All I did was post "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" to my facebook wall. I was out having some beers with a friend last night, and so many people were all "Did you hear?" with ear- to-ear smiles.

This was a necessary measure. Someone's life has ended prematurely, and that is always sad to me- even when it isn't to others. Bin Laden is dead, and I wonder what would have happened if he had bankrolled schools and food programs.

I celebrate that the world is safer until the next guy picks up the torch. (Probably already happened). I decry the waste of the resources, and squandering of potential good that Bin Laden could have accomplished. I decry that violence was the only way to resolve this.

JD, well said. I got some Jamison on my counter, too. I'm not going to suggest that Bin Laden's death is somehow morally wrong. Killing him finally has saved a lot of future lives. A lot of men and women gave their life the pursuit of him, and the fact that he could outmaneuver the best country in the world for nearly 2 decades shows how dangerous he was.

But for me it's a still a life. If I had to pick between Bin Laden and you, I'd pick you It's not so much his death that bothers me- it's all death. It's that we still (and probably always will) live in a world where death is the check on which liberty is cashed in.

But I'm gonna have a Budweiser for all our men and women who have fallen. At 8:30 AM. They've brought honor to our country, no doubt.

I agree with your sentiments. On one hand, I am glad that we are now rid of this evil man who had absolutely no respect for human life. Yet on the other hand, I am disgusted that society as a whole can call itself civilized yet still must resort to violence to solve its problems. To me, to celebrate violence is to celebrate barabarism.

What are you guys watching anyway? I don't see people having Kegers celebrating anything. I see people on TV at Ground Zero in remembrance for those lost that day, I see people outside the White House celebrating a victory for our country, I see service men and women all over the world singing the national anthem. I don't see people going over the top in their celebration. Those celebrating are right to do so.

There will always be those who take it too far, and maybe that's what you are referring to...but int he grande scheme of things, Americans today can have a great sense of pride that we accomplished a great. Terrorism isn't just going to go away today, but it was dealt a massive blow to the gut. Bravo to President Obama and Bush.

Don't get me wrong. It was a great accomplishment to FINALLY bring him down, but lets keep it in perspective. Terrorism will NEVER go away, so what exactly are we celebrating? We can be content that justice has been served, and pride has been restored in the country...but how long will this jubilation last? I think my issue is that I know this is only temporary joy, because months from now, the honeymoon will be over. Either we keep this renewed spirit going, or don't bother to celebrate at all, and that just isn't realistic.

There was a 40 second clip of a bunch of college kids outside the white house on ESPN Radio today drinking, dancing, and yelling in celebration.

Yep. Some people party just for the sake of partying. Just like some people just look at The 4th of July or Veterans Day as another day off of school or work. But, like other's have said this is America and at least we have the freedom to do as we please.

FF - You can believe it or not, but it happened.

Burying him at sea was a delicate decision that has multitiple facets. Islamic Law states the dead should be cleansed and buried as soon as possible and before sunset of that day. Why would we immediately post pictures of his body and risk alienating a sector of society we cannot afford to offend simply to appease the average skeptical American citizen?

I agree to this... just watching some comments from last night's "party", and you could tell some folk were just there to be in the moment. They interviewed a girl on MSNBC and all she really had to say was loud screaming of "He's Dead! He's Dead! Yes!!

I was thinking the same thing I was like this kid was in 2nd grade (exaggerating) probably when this happened.

The first New York City fireman's comment when asked about the killing of Osama was "I hope that son of a bitch rots in hell". Whats the difference?

And could someone explain to me why you don't go down if your close by to enjoy the moment for whatever reason? You don't have to go down there and get piss drunk(some may have) but, to go down there and just be apart of something bigger than you.

I mean the whole night was like a gigantic Tiger Woods fist pump.

You do realize if Bin Laden wasn't dead that he could just make a video tape to reveal he was still alive and everyone would basically riot against Obama. Do you really think they would even bother running that risk?
